Now that you’ve been accepted to Miami University, here’s a short list of things to do.

While you’re deciding:

q Attend a Transfer Preview Day or Transfer Thursday. For more information, see Page 3 of this packet.

q File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) at fafsa.gov if you have not already, so you’ll be considered for all need-based scholarships and financial aid awards. Use Miami’s federal school code (003077).

q Request a transfer credit evaluation by emailing [email protected] if you completed additional courses after your initial evaluation.

q Confirm your intent to enroll at Miami and submit your deposit ($425 if you’re living in university housing; $95 if you’re living in non-university housing or commuting) by the date listed in your acceptance letter by going to MiamiOH.edu/accepted and clicking on the Confirm Your Enrollment link or submitting the Confirm Your Enrollment form included in this packet. After you confirm, you’ll receive an email with information on how to access your Miami student email account and will also have access to request university housing.

q Connect with other accepted transfer students by visiting our Facebook page, facebook.com/groups/MiamiOHTransfer1718.

After you confirm your enrollment:

q Miami University policy requires vaccination for all communicable diseases listed on the Ohio K-12 vaccination schedule. To submit your documentation visit the Student Health Center website at MiamiOH.edu/health and click on the link titled “medical form web portal.” Complete the documentation of required vaccinations. For questions, contact the Student Health Center at 513-529-3000.

q As soon as you complete your current term of enrollment at your most recent institution, request that your official final college transcript with your current term grades be sent to: Miami’s Office of Admission, 301 S. Campus Ave., Oxford, OH 45056.

q Attend a Transfer One-Day Orientation or August Transfer Student Orientation to meet with an academic advisor to register for classes. See Page 12 of this packet for details.

q Check your Miami email for your tuition and fees bill. It will be sent electronically to this email address if you register for classes before our billing date. Transfer students who register after our billing dates (see MiamiOH.edu/billingdates) will also receive an email, and payment is due by the first day of classes.

q If you’re living in university housing, you must complete the Residence Hall and Meal Plan Contract. Housing is not guaranteed for students 21 years of age or older or for students who have completed at least two years at another institution. If you’re living in non-university housing, please visit MiamiOH.edu/student-life/off-campus-outreach for more information.

Get excited for your move to Miami! Come to one of our on-campus Transfer Preview Day events designed to help with your decision-making process. Go to MiamiOH.edu/transfer for event dates and to register.

If you attend a Transfer Preview Day, you will go on a campus tour, enjoy a complimentary lunch in a dining hall, and learn about resources important to the transfer process.

If you are unable to attend a Transfer Preview Day, we encourage you to schedule an appointment to meet with a member of our transfer team during Transfer Thursdays. Email [email protected] for more information.

Miami is a residential school, with almost all of our students living in university housing or in Oxford’s square mile. It’s a place custom-made to call home for your unforgettable Miami years. Small enough to see friendly faces anywhere you turn, and big enough to feel like you’re a world away. You’ll find a sense of community here that’s hard to describe until you live it.

Find your fit in a living-learning community. When you live in university housing, it’s not just about the building, it’s really about your community inside the building. Studies show that students who live in university housing perform better academically and participate more fully in campus life.

Because of these benefits, eligible full-time transfer students live in university housing unless:

• They live with their parent(s), legal guardian, spouse, or dependent children.

• They are over 21 years of age prior to the start of classes.

• They have matriculated full-time for at least two years at another institution of higher education.

You have the option of living in a Transfer Student Living-Learning Community. To find out more, email [email protected] . Housing is not guaranteed for students 21 years of age or older or for students who have completed at least two years at another institution.

Whether you live in university housing or not, you can dig into the meals at Miami’s award-winning dining services. Yes, the food is really that good! Find out more at MiamiOH.edu/mealplans.

THE CLASSIC COLLEGIATE EXPERIENCE IN THE PERFECT COLLEGE TOWN

Miami Traditions

THE UPHAM ARCH

Many Miami couples attest that if you stand underneath the Upham Hall arch’s light at midnight and kiss your sweetheart, you’re destined to marry each other.

THE SUNDIAL

Legend has it that if you rub the heads of the turtles holding up the Sundial’s base, you’ll enjoy good luck on upcoming tests.

THE MIAMI SEAL

Students avoid stepping on the Miami University Seal in the center of campus, believing it keeps them from failing their next exam.

Since our founding in 1809, Miami students have created many traditions they have passed down to the generations that follow. Here are a few of our more famous ones.

Transfer credit evaluationMiami offers transfer students the opportunity to see how credits will transfer from their previous institution(s) to Miami. A transfer credit evaluation is prepared soon after a student is admitted, but an evaluation can be requested at any time. You can email a transcript to [email protected] to receive a credit evaluation.

Transfer Student OrientationThe Office of Orientation and Transition Programs offers two orientation options for transfer students: Transfer One-Day Orientations and August Transfer Student Orientation. Attending orientation will help you become more confident, comfortable, connected, and curious as a Miami student. You will learn about campus resources and involvement opportunities, discover Miami’s history and traditions, meet other new transfer students, and connect with faculty and staff members.

Students attending a Transfer One-Day Orientation will meet with an advisor and register for classes during orientation. Not all academic divisions will be available at every Transfer One-Day Orientation, so you’ll want to make sure you register for a day when your division is present.

If you cannot attend a Transfer One-Day Orientation, you are encouraged to attend August Transfer Student Orientation. Additionally, you will need to contact your academic division to schedule an individual advising session.

To learn more about orientation or to register to attend, please visit MiamiOH.edu/orientation.

1. Why is a final transcript required if I’ve already been accepted?Miami’s offer of acceptance is based upon review of all prior university coursework and your high school transcript, including grades from coursework in which you may be currently enrolled. Also, your final transcript must demonstrate your consistent effort in maintaining your grade point average (GPA). It is understood that you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00 in all college coursework. If your final transcript shows that you did not meet this expectation, if you are suspended, dismissed, or placed on probation by your school, or if you are convicted of a criminal offense other than a minor traffic incident or such charges are pending against you prior to your attendance, Miami University reserves the right to withdraw the offer of admission. Your transcript must be received in the Office of Admission by August 1 for students starting in the fall.

2. What resources and opportunities are available for U.S. military-affiliated students? There are specific resources for military-affiliated students within the One Stop, the Student Success Center, the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity, and the Student Veterans of America. The Student Veterans Association at Miami provides a network of support to military-affiliated students, their families, and civilian supporters by working with university administration to meet the needs of current and prospective military-affiliated students, cultivating their concerns, and promoting an understanding of military-affiliated student issues to ease the transition into student life. Additionally, Miami’s Military Assistance Group is a directory of informed and dedicated staff and support offices, both on campus and in the region, for military-affiliated students.

3. What transportation services are available?Students can utilize the Butler County Regional Transit Authority bus service, which runs regular routes on campus and in Oxford. The Miami Metro Shuttle Service offers limited shuttle service to major airports for Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break. You can also contact the Airport Shuttle Service at 513-896-6605 for transportation to the Cincinnati or Dayton airport. Oxford Limousine Service provides transportation in and out of Oxford; call 800-891-0064 or 513-523-6840. For more information on transportation services, please visit MiamiOH.edu/parking/transportation.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID

New transfer students admitted for either the fall or spring semester will be considered for merit and need-based scholarship opportunities. Eligibility is determined at the time of admission. A student must be eligible to receive federal aid and have submitted a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at fafsa.gov to be considered for need-based scholarships.

Students not meeting the transfer application deadline (June 1 for fall enrollment or December 1 for spring enrollment) will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Exact scholarship amounts within each range will be determined by a holistic review of the application for admission. Students enrolled less than full time, those attending a regional campus, and students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree are not eligible.

If you have questions about financial aid or transfer scholarships, or to obtain a list of additional scholarships, please call the One Stop at 513-529-0001, email [email protected], or go to MiamiOH.edu/OneStop.

More questions? Go to MiamiOH.edu/accepted.

Confirm by the date listed in your acceptance letter. We are excited about your decision to attend Miami! All new students are required to submit a deposit: $425 if you’re living in university housing, which includes the $330 Residence Hall and Meal Plan Contract Deposit and $95 admission fee. It’s $95 if you’re living in non-university housing or commuting. The Office of Admission does not refund any portion of the confirmation deposit to students who choose not to attend Miami University. For students living in university housing, the Residence Hall and Meal Plan Contract Deposit of $330, less any unpaid charges, will be applied retroactively toward your final academic term fees.

Please note you can also confirm your enrollment online at MiamiOH.edu/accepted. Choose your student type, then click on the Confirm Your Enrollment link to submit your confirmation deposit online.
