NOVEMBER 10, 2009               The meeting was called to order by President Deb Woodruff at 7:04 p.m.   

Secretary (Mercedez Hathcock):  The minutes were approved as  read.   The Secretary  is keeping a  log of  the volunteer hours; please submit them. 

  

Program:  Pampered Chef Consultant Marla Holmes gave a presentation of various products.  PTA Council will receive 20‐25% of all sales during the month of November.   Ways to place an order: 1. Go  to www.pamperedchef.biz/marlamh  click  on OUR  PRODUCTS,  then HOW  TO

Treasurer (Kim Katz):  The October 13‐November 10, 2009 financial report was circulated.  Balance on hand is $12,014.84.    The  Spirit  Wear  profits  are  lower  than  projected  and  future  budget adjustments may be in order.  Report has been filed for audit, please see page 5. 

    

Principal (Tracie Lees):  Ms.  Lees  was  the  recipient  of  the  Bulldog  Pride  heart  pin  on  November  2,  2009.  Congratulations to her!  Below is the nomination: Tracie Lees—Tracie hit the ground running as the new kid on the block a few years ago and hasn’t stopped yet.  It can’t be an easy  job, but  it’s obvious  that she cares a great deal  about  the  students  and  staff  here.  Always  on  a mission,  but  never  too  busy  or self‐absorbed to stop and speak to everybody, she can’t help but show heart. Tracie has a gift  for making us all  feel  important and appreciated,  regardless of who we are.  I’m sure she will tell me she doesn’t think she deserves this heart pin, but that’s just another reason I think she does! Please see attached Principal’s Report, page 6. 

  

President (Deb Woodruff):  Thanked OFMS PTA volunteers for their support and efforts.   

Membership (Janice Patton & Kathy Feldman):  To date, OFMS PTA has 309 PTA members.   

Ways and Means (Rebecca Gawsyszawski):  With  deposits  of  $9,142.50  and  expenses  of  $5,708.45,  the  total  Spirit Wear  profits stand at $3,434.05; a shortfall of $2,565.90 of the projected $6,000 income goal.  Please remember Spirit Wear orders are to be picked up at the OFMS cafetorium on November 12  &  19  from  4:00‐7:00p.m.    Contact  Rebecca  at  440.315.9097  to  help  with  the distribution.  There will be a cash and carry sale on those dates as well. In hopes  to  increase  revenue,  the  sales deadline has been extended  to November 20 (pick‐up will be December 17 in the OFMS cafetorium).

  The Calendar  fundraiser will be held  in March  instead of May.   A  letter  for donation requests is ready for distribution. 

 

 

Council Delegate (Sandra Graham):  Outstanding  Educator  (pages  7‐11)  and Helping Hands  applications  (pages  12‐14)  are available, PLEASE NOMINATE.  Submissions are due to at OFMS PTA meeting on January 12, 2010. PTA Council will sell donuts at the staff basketball game  in February.   Profits  from the sale will go to scholarships.   The FluBusters program went well.   80 vaccinations were given out.    If the program  is repeated next year, PTA may change to offering only evening clinics. OFCS  Flu  Preparedness  Plan  is  being  enacted.    The  school  clinics  can  hold approximately five  ill  children.   If  there are more  than five  ill  children waiting  in  the school  clinic  for  their  parents  to  pick  them  up,  an  additional  room will need  to  be opened to house them until their parents arrive.  Darla Haviland, our district nurse, has requested  a  "call  list"  of  community  volunteers  on  hand  in  case  such  a  need would occur.  Volunteers would  stay with  the  ill  children  in  the overflow  room until parents arrive. If you can help, please complete the "Flu volunteer release and duties"  form attached (page 15).  Please turn in your forms to Denise Tabar.  For more information on OFCS's Influenza Preparedness Plan: http://ofcs.net/districtNewsArticle.aspx?artID=748 “Internet Safety Night” and “Go Green Night” are two family engagement programs that can be utilized by the PTA units for their meetings. Jen Chandler, OECPTA’s website chair, presented  to  the PTA Council a different, more efficient way for PTA units to communicate with parents. OFHS won Fox 8’s Cool School of the Week that should air Thurs., Nov 12 before 7am. OFCS has 23 students placed  in the district due to court or  foster care placement.   13 special needs and 3 children are placed here for additional care and schooling.  Although there is a lot of paperwork involved to get the money that is due to OFCS from the state or other school districts, Mr. Lewis (Assistant Superintendent) works diligently on these efforts. Dr. Lloyd reviewed the Continuous Improvement Plan implementation (page 16 & 17). Dr. Hoadley shared the UNOFFICIAL voting results of the  levy (page 18).   The Board of Education met  on November  5,  2009  and  passed  5  resolutions  providing  options  for various millage amounts for the  levy on the February ballot.   The amounts range from 7.9‐8.9 mills.  The goal is to levy enough millage to last until 2013. Bussing  reductions will go  forward as  indicated  in  the Educational Reduction Plan and parents will get notifications November/December.  Another consequence of the failed levy: custodial schedules will be cut.  Please see attached “The Path We Choose” report (page 19) and the OFCS Schedule of Revenues and Expenditures (page 20). OFMS construction is ahead of schedule, projected completion is Aug/Oct 2010. 

    

Advocacy (Mercedez Hathcock):  Rebecca Gawsyszawski and Mercedez Hathcock attended the Ohio PTA Advocacy Event on November 4 in Columbus and met with 2 state representatives, 1 state senator, and National PTA lobbyist Keri Haars. Passed  by  the House, HB318  is  in  the Ohio  Senate  now.      Please  contact  your  state senator (using the link below) and ask them to support it.  Olmsted Falls School District stands to  lose an ADDITIONAL $2.8 million  in state funding over the next 2 years  if the budget deficit isn't plugged. http://ohiopta.org/Advocacy/tabid/130/Default.aspx.   

  

Substance Abuse (Jenny McKeigue):  Do to no participation; PTA did not need to purchase gift certificate awards for winning students of the “My Anti‐Drug” contest.  Alternative programs are being considered. 

  

Reflections (Kathy Feldman):  The 2009 – 2010 Reflections theme is “Beauty is…”  Entry deadline to the PTA Council is January 8, 2010.  Full contest details at: http://ohiopta.org/Programs/tabid/60/Default.aspx   

 

Music Boosters (Doris Locklear):  The annual pizza sale order deadline is December 4.  Volunteers are needed for concerts on Nov 11 at 6:15 and 7:15 and future dates.  Please contact Doris and sign up. 

  OFMA needs to purchase 50 band uniforms.   

Athletic Boosters (Shelly Mitchell):  Please see attached report (page 21 & 22).
