To everything, a season

Vani HariFOUNDER - TRUVANI

Truth bomb, comin’ in hot...as a society, we’re pretty

spoiled when it comes to convenience.

Anything we can think of, food or otherwise, we can

simply order from our phone and have it delivered to

our doorstep. Or, we can just take a trip to the

nearest grocery store.

Craving pomegranates in July? Sure.

Stone fruit in the dead of winter? You got it.

Just one more happy perk of the modern age, right?

Not quite…

See, what we gain in convenience by shopping for

produce that’s o-season, we sacrifice in

sustainability, taste, and quality.

Here are some specifics on why you should make it a

point to eat seasonally: | 1

The freshness of your produce isn’t simply determined

by when you buy it at the nearest supermarket. The truth

is, it traveled a long way to get into your basket. Food in

the U.S. logs about 1,500 miles from the manufacturer to

our plates. All that time between farm and plate means

those imported fruits and vegetables are much more

likely to be exposed to toxins (like the chemicals often

needed to preserve them during these long journeys)

compared to their locally-farmed, in-season alternatives.

Eating seasonally is a super simple (although often

overlooked) way to reduce the ol’ carbon footprint.

Think about it: imported produce means more shipping.

More fuel consumption. More packaging. More pollution.

The emissions produced as a result of out-of-season

farming and food transportation contribute to issues like

poor air-quality and of course global warming.

Eating seasonally is good. Eating seasonally and locally is

even better. Buying in-season produce grown locally gives

you more reassurance of quality and freshness. Keeping

things close to home also means you’re supporting the local

economy, specifically farming communities.
