WE HAVE NOTICED:• that young caterers (students) are not informed enough on employment possibilities,

• that employers do not have a good insight into workforce that finished high school

education and is available on the labour market

• that employment measures are mostly implemented by large touristic complexes

(through scholarships, tourism occupations days etc.), but a great number of smaller catering

facilities, that make a majority of the touristic offer in Croatia, do not have such tools for

finding human resources

• that a shortage of workers in our profession is one of the most prominent problems

that Croatia has been dealing with for the last few years

THANKS TO THE MINISTRY OF TOURISM WE HAVE PUT OUR IDEA INTO ACTION

WE CAME UP WITH A PROJECT THAT CONNECTS EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES IN

CATERING AND TOURISM SECTOR.

AIMS OF THE PROJECT

• motivation of young people for jobs in tourism

• deficit reduction for jobs in catering and tourism

• connection of science and education with public, private and civil sector by means of

cooperation between schools, students and businessmen, in one place

• correlation of education system to the needs of the labour market

• bringing a qualified worker closer to the employer

• promotion of occupations in tourism through workshops and lectures for primary school

students

• tracking of young individuals after finishing high school education (getting insight into

the number of young people that continue to work in their profession and in their country)

• making sure that young people in Croatia have a career plan and job preparation that

their peers in Europe and in the world have as well

GOALS OF THE PROJECT

• making of web application for tracking students of Catering and Tourism School Osijek

after finishing high school education

• connecting employers and job candidates with aim of higher and faster employability of

catering and tourism workforce

• simpler and faster employment in catering and tourism occupations, that corresponds to

the needs of the labour market

• improvement of knowledge and skills in IT

• improvement of IT literacy of people working in catering and tourism sector through

workshops

• making a career plan for each student

Considering the fact that making

a visual identity was a key

component for recognition of

our project, this was our next

task.

We came up with a name that

reminds us of a touristic

journey– PUT (trip)– Poslovi u

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION-ACTIVITIES• we have designed web application for jobs in catering and tourism

• we have designed employers’ database

• we have designed employees’ database

• we made profiles for employees : name and surname, contakt, current status (employed-

unemployed), work experience, additional knowledge and skills, trainings/courses, possibility of

adding CV and other documents

• we made profiles for employers – description of the facilty with display of supply and

demand for workers, with job descriptions, emhpasising suitability for employees – staff

trainings/courses, additional education etc.

• profiles can be complemented, changed, and in this way we are creating a big database of

potential workers in catering and tourism sector in the following years

• By visiting rural households, hotels, boarding houses, restaurants, wine cellars, and other

catering facilities, we had the opportunity to talk to the owners and directors and to hear their

business journey:

o What is their favourite thing in business

o How to succeed in continental Croatia

o Which characteristics are appreciated in young caterers

o How to attract new and how to keep regular guests

o How to imbed tradition and modern technology into touristic offer

o and much much more..

PUBLIC PRESENTATION OF THE PROJECT: PUT

RESULTS AND PROJECT’S SUSTAINIBILITY• www.putizvrsnosti.com is a public page, and project results are visible after the first generation of stundets that

finished high school education in ou school.

• Project done in this way, and financed by the Ministry of Tourism is sustainable up to 3 years, after which the

financing will be done throught the Regional Centre of Competences of Catering and Tourism School Osijek.

EVERYBODY PROSPERED by JOINING THE PROJECT

• Students of Electrical Engineering and Traffic School Osijek had the opportunity to learn a lot about making of a

very demanding application.

• Students of hospitality industry occupations had the possibility to find employment easier, with constant

support from the teachers, because the teachers formed a team during implementation of this project, with aim

to provide long term assistance to young caterers and tourism professionals in finding employment.

Each student will in cooperation with his/her teacher make his/her own e u suradnji s nastavnicima napraviti svoj career

portfolio, which will hep him/her to present himself/herself and his/her knowledge.

Each student will also have a training that includes:

– writing a CV, job application, motivational letter,

– Simulation of job interview,

– what to be careful about in job search,

– how to get and use references and how to send open applications,

– teaching them critical thinking, showing curiosity and interest for the job and how to be persistent

– teaching them to understand themselves and how to discover their strengths and weaknesses,

– in coopration with their vocational teachers they will be recommended a career that is best suited to their skills and inclinations,

– bring to their consciousness whether they are inclined to working for a big hotel chain, or in a privately owned small hotel, or some

other catering facility

– encouraging them to work in Croatia

We plan to offer the web application to other vocational high schools, also not only to schools in catering and tourism sector. This

would enable other schools to connect their students and businessmen, and knowing what kind of work profile employers are looking for

would enable the schools to adjust the curriculums more to the needs of the labour market, which is a goal of the vocational education

reform.
