Stems & LeavesFold one 1 1/2” x 42” green strip in half lengthwise, right sides together. Using a 1/4” seam allowance, sew down one long side of the folded fabric (Fig. 1). Repeat with the remaining two 1 1/2” x 42” strips. Turn the three sewn strips right side out. Cut the strips in half to make six stems.

Turn under one short end on each stem a 1/4” and then a second 1/4” to make a closed finished edge. Top stitch the folded end close (Fig. 2). Repeat with one end of each of the remaining stems.

Slide one 1/8” dowel into each stem and close the other end of the stem. Turn under the open short end on each stem a 1/4” and then a second 1/4” to make a closed finished edge (Fig. 3). Top stitch the end close careful not to stitch over the wood dowel. This will create a scunchy fabric stem.

Cut out the leaf template from the pattern. Fold the remaining green fabric in half, right sides together and press.

Trace twelve leaves onto the top layer of green fabric with a fabric pencil. Cut out each leaf template from the two layers of green fabric. Sew around each leaf pair, leaving an opening for turning (Fig. 4). Turn each sewn leaf right side out and topstitch the opening close to make twelve leaves. Press.
