Project Goals and Objectives• Provide direct access to Crooked Hill Road from the LIE.
• Provide access from Crooked Hill Road to the LIE.
• Create better traffic flow between Crooked Hill Road and the LIE Service Roads.
• Enhance overall traffic operations usingtransportation improvements to reduce congestion and delay.
Project Needs• Increased vehicular movements in the vicinity of Crooked Hill Road (CR 13) and a lack of routing options to access businesses and services from the Long Island Expressway(LIE/I-495).
• Lack of direct access from the LIE to Crooked Hill Road has resulted in congestion at the LIE Service Roads and Commack Road, Crooked Hill Road, and Wicks Road intersections.

Project Benefits
• Improves mobility and access to and from the Crooked Hill Road corridor by providing:
o Direct access from the eastbound LIE to Crooked Hill Road.
o Direct access from the westbound LIE to Crooked Hill Road.
o Direct access from Crooked Hill Road to eastbound LIE.
• Improves traffic operations at the LIE Service Road intersections with Commack Road, Wicks Road, and Crooked Hill Road.
• Reduces the volume of trucks at the LIE South Service Road intersections with Commack Road, Wicks Road, and Crooked Hill Road.
• Improves drainage and lighting systems on the Sagtikos State Parkway within the project limits.
• Maintains historical landscape character of parkway.
• Upgrades curvature, superelevation, and merge length of proposed and reconstructed ramps.

“Drivers First” Initiatives During Construction
• Employ night work, when feasible.
• Institute Seasonal / Holiday limitations.
• Utilize lane width reductions and traffic shifts to keep travel lanes open.
• Minimize impacts by performing construction in stages.
• Limit lengths of work zones to minimize disruptions to motorists and the community.
• Maintain driveway access at all times.
• Utilize temporary work zone measures designed according to the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices” (MUTCD) and NYSDOT standards to maintain motorists’ safety.
