Summer Discovery staff make all medical appointments, accompany students to medical facilities, obtain prescription medications, and notify parents after medical visits. Appointments are made with University Health Service or UM’s Mott Children’s Hospital.

TransportationWe provide escorted transfers from/to Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) for $75 eachway. Staff meet incoming flights in baggage claim (or outside of customs for international flights) and assist with all departures.

Classrooms, athletic facilities, and the town of Ann Arbor are only a short walk fromour residence hall. Passenger vans are used for field trips, small excursions, and medical transport. Chartered buses are used for large group excursions.

Mosher-Jordan Residence HallLive in Mosher-Jordan Residence Hall, commonly known as MoJo, one ofMichigan’s recently renovated, air-conditioned residence halls. It is adjoinedto the Hill Dining Center and near Palmer Field and the Central CampusRecreation Building. Rooms are doubles with study desks, bookshelves,dressers, closets, and high-speed internet.

Food For ThoughtStudents eat in the Hill Dining Center which offers marketplace-style dining witha huge selection of international foods. Students receive 3 meals a day (1 on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday) while on campus. Included are low-fat and vegetarianselections, hot breakfast, salad bar, stone-oven pizza, grilled sandwiches, and dessert and coffee bar. Portions are unlimited.

Health and Safety is Our Primary ConcernWe are committed to the support and supervision of SummerDiscovery students. Daily sign-ins and room checks are used for safety. Students are free to walk around campus and Ann Arbor (our ‘home area’) in small groups.

This course is a survey of issues that are relevant to the industry of sport in the US, includingmarketing and influences on consumer behavior, the uniquely American phenomenon ofbig-business intercollegiate athletics, product safety, and the relationship between sport and racial and political ideology. The course is based on a lecture and discussion format andincludes small-group case study analyses and video presentations.

The Ann Arbor Music Center teaches music in a way that inspires creativity and collaboration. Under the direction of award winning guitarist Alex Johnson and multi-instrumentalist Dave Sharp, students learn to play cooperatively in a band while honing their individual musical skill set. All recorded songs will be mixed, mastered, and posted online for sharing with friends and family . The following two courses meet 2 hours per day, morning or afternoon, and can be taken individually or together.

Rock & Roll PerformanceHave you dreamed of playing in a band? Sharpen your skills on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards,or saxophone. Write, perform, and record original songs and your favorite covers. Bands will beformed based on skill level and musical interest. After the first week of writing, arranging, andrehearsing the tunes, the bands will record live in a professional recording studio.

Do you know the difference betweenleadership and management? Explore strategies to run asuccessful organization, address the cultural, moral, andethical dilemmas facing leaders today, learn how to foster

creativity and productivity within the workplace, and bringabout positive change.

In groups, analyze case studies outlining leadershiptheories and styles, management roles, organizationalstructures, business ethics and standards, communica-tion and power, and gender and culture in leadership.This class will include lecture and discussion components.

Global Leadership Skills and Agents of SocialChange (afternoon course) The afternoon coursecombines pertinent discussions, site visits to cuttingedge companies and organizations, and meaningful,relevant guest speakers who personify strong leadershipand bring about social change. Learn and implementglobal leadership skills in the rapidly changing world ofentrepreneurship, non-profits, social media, and globalcommunications. Effective leaders of today must notonly be able to inspire, but they must also be able to
