IMPORTANT DATES
Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to Term 3. Thank you to the many family and friends
who supported students at the athletics carnival last Friday or
who assisted with the running of this annual event.
Staff and students would like to thank Angela Smith, Kristy
Neill and Teressa Rose for providing canteen to our staff and
students on 2 occasions this week. Funds raised will contribute
to the school transitioning to new shirts in 2020.
Staff and students were treated to a visit from the State Library
on Tuesday. Staff from the State Library brought with them
artefacts such as an antique globe, the shopping list of an
explorer and a telescope. Staff and students from St Josephs
joined us for this visit.
Students enjoyed an afternoon of skipping yesterday. Funds
raised support Jump Rope for Heart.
Next week the Nyngan PS Spelling Bee will be held at 9am on
Tuesday. I would like to wish all students well in their
participation in this. We also wish Nick Motley and Samuel
Milligan an enjoyable time at the Moorambilla camp on
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week.
Nyngan Public School now has a new app. Our previous app
ceased in providing this service. As a result we now have
Skoolbag providing this service for our school. Please refer to
the bottom of the newsletter for more detail.

NAIDOC WEEK
The last week of Term 2 we celebrated NAIDOC Week by participating in the many activities
that were organised. On Monday we attended the official opening outside the Bogan Shire
Council, Tuesday our Year 5 and 6 joined the Nyngan High School students at their showcase
day. Wednesday we hosted children from ELC, Preschool and Year 1 and 2 students from St
Josephs. We played TIG games, were entertained by Uncle Ralph and the Castlereagh
Connections band and had a wonderful BBQ lunch. Thanks to everyone that helped out to
make our day so much fun. Thursday our Year 3 and 4 went to St Josephs to participate in
their activities and Friday was the Community River Day. As well as this we also took part in
many in school activities that were organised by Marea. I big thankyou to all the people that
were involved in making the NAIDOC Week so successful.
CHILD PROTECTION STUDIES
In Term 3 students will be studying Child Protection. Notes were sent home on last week
explaining this program in more detail. If you didn’t receive this note please contact the office
and we will send one home with your child. If you DO NOT want your child to participate in
the Child Protection studies please send the signed permission note back to the office. If we
do not receive a note we will assume you are happy for your child/ren to attend the program.
SPELLING BEE
Module Spelling Bee
Thank you to the thirty three children from Year 3 to 6 who
participated in the module spelling bee last
Wednesday. Congratulations to Sarah, Lily, Mia and Sam who
have made it through to the Stage 3 School Spelling Bee and to
Santana, Ava, Smokey and Taya who have made it through to
the Stage 2 School Spelling Bee.
The School Spelling Bee is on Tuesday 6th
August at 9.00 am in the auditorium. We will be
spelling until we have 2 children from each stage to go on the Regional Final. Everyone is
most welcome to attend.
Nyngan Public School is hosting the Regional Spelling Bee Finals this year on Wednesday
11th
September. More details to follow.
ROCK AND WATER
Last term, Years 4, 5 and 6 have been taking part in the Rock and Water program with Viv.
During these sessions we have learnt how to ground ourselves and have self-control. We
played a lot of different games such as Chinese Sticky Hands, Standing Roster and Ground
Ball to help us learn how to control our feelings. We really enjoyed going to Rock and Water.
Thank you Viv.

STILL STANDING
Last term, Years 5 and 6 enjoyed going to the boxing shed with Lonse for the Still Standing
program. While we were there we learnt how to box, including how to stand properly and
how to breathe and how to throw the right punches. This program was good because it taught
us how to defend ourselves and also about how to lead a healthy lifestyle. It was a good
source of fitness and Lonse taught us to just get outside rather than sitting inside watching TV
or playing games. Thank you Lonse giving up your time to teach us all some great lessons.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Youth and Community Centre Survey
Bogan Shire Council would like your thoughts on whether there is a need for a dedicated
space for youth (12-24 year old) activities in Nyngan. The Council has an opportunity to
apply for grant funding to construct a Community Centre which could include provision for
the salary of a Youth Worker to run programs and activities outside school hours.
It would be appreciated if you could complete this short survey to help Council make an
informed choice.
Please could you complete the survey by 4pm on Friday 9 August 2019
Please contact Abigail McLaughlin, Community Development Officer (6835 9000) if you
have any questions about the survey.
