  • SUZI TAYLOR An internationally recognized master teacher and choreographer, Suzi has been training professional and aspiring young dancers for the past 20 years. Combining her talents as dancer, teacher, and choreographer, she has been invited to teach, perform, and adjudicate at 5 national dance festivals in Rio de Janiero, at the esteemed Theater An Der Wein School in Vienna, at ABT star Julio Boccas school for Ballet Argentina in Buenos Aires, in numerous workshops throughout Italy, Japan, France and Canada, and has set works on companies in Scotland, Israel, Italy and Brazil. She has been a faculty member at 4 of the biggest NYC studios, currently and for the past 20 years at Steps on Broadway. She is sought after to teach and lecture at universities, schools, and organizations across the U.S., and is proud to have been with NYCDA since its inception.

    JOEY DOWLING Joey has been performing, choreographing and teaching in NYC and internationally for the past 16 years. She grew up dancing at her mothers studio and then attended NYU Tisch School of the Arts on a Dance/Academic Scholarship. Her Film/TV credits include: Chicago, The Producers, Rock of Ages, So You Think You Can Dance (Choreographer), Smash, MTV Video Music Awards, VH1 Vogue Fashion Awards, Sex & the City and the upcoming film, Winters Tale starring Collin Farell. Her performance credits include: Sweet Charity (Broadway), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Broadway), Dance of The Vampires (Broadway), The Mambo Kings (Broadway), In The Heights (Associate Choreographer - Broadway), Encores summer series production of The Wiz and Mariah Careys Butterfly World Tour. Her love of fashion and dance inspired her and sister Jacki to create a dancewear line called Jo+Jax, www.joandjax.com. See Joeys work at: www.youtube.com/joeydowling1.

    SCOTT JOVOVICH Scott has performed as a Principal dancer with such companies as The Joffrey Ballet, The Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, The Northern Ballet (England), The Universal Ballet (Korea), Ballet Arizona, and the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company. He was featured in the Tony Award winning musicals, Jerome Robbins Broadway and Fosse, as well as appearing in Once Upon A Mattress and Carousel on Broadway. Scott has directed and choreographed for nightclubs, musical theatre, ballet, and commercials across the country. In addition, he is starting a production company called JovoDance which will include his costume/dancewear company. As a teacher he has been on the faculty of The Joffrey School, The Rock School of The Pennsylvania Ballet, and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School and currently University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

    ANDY BLAKENBUEHLER Andy made his directorial debut for Bring It On the Musical, for which also served as choreographer. On Broadway, Andy has choreographed In The Heights (Tony, Outer Critics and Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Choreography) 9 to 5 (Tony, Drama Desk, Outer Critcs nominations), the revival of The Apple Tree starring Kristen Chenoweth, and the recent City Center revival of The Wiz. Other musicals include: Desperately Seeking Susan (London), as well as the world premiere productions of Waiting for the Moon (music by Frank Wildhorn) and A Little Princess (music by Andrew Lippa). He has staged concert work for both Elton John and Bette Midler, and he conceived, directed and choreographed the hit Caesars Palace production Nights on Broadway. Andy appears as a guest choreographer on So You Think You Can Dance. Broadway performing credits include: Fosse, Contact, Man of LaMancha, Saturday Night Fever, Steel Pier, Big and Guys and Dolls. Andy lives in New York City with his wife and two children, Luca and Sofia.

    ANDY PELLICK Andy originally hails from Pittsburgh, PA, but has called New York his home for well over a decade. Currently performing Off-Broadway in Fuerzabruta, he has also dance in the original Broadway casts of Wicked, Tarzan, La Gage Aux Folles, and Dance of the Vampires. He also performed Off-Broadway in De La Guarda. Film credits include The Polar Express, Show Business and the new film, Winters Tale. He has appeared on The David Letterman Show, the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, the VH1 Vogue Fashion Award, Broadway: The Golden Age, and The Tony Awards. Before moving to New York, Andys first job was to be the understudy for Tommy Tune in EFX at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where he was also a featured dancer. When not performing, Andy fills his time teaching and choreographing across the country. He feels blessed to work with the upcoming generation of dancers, and loves being a part of such an incredible community!

    KIM CRAVEN Kim began dancing in LA at Westside Ballet, spending summers at San Francisco Ballet School and School of American Ballet, and moving to NYC at 17 to study at SAB fulltime. She joined Pennsylvania Ballet Company at 19, dancing in a wide repertoire of ballets. Her interest in acting, singing, and other dance styles brought her back to LA for work in TV, film, and commercials. She returned to NY for her first Broadway show and worked there since. Credits include: On the Town (Dance Captain), Swing! (Supervisor), Mamma Mia (Dance Captain 1st National Tour and Vegas), Movin Out (Supervisor 1st National Tour; Associate Choreographer/Director - London), Times They Are A-Changin (Resident Director), Sinatra Dance with Me (Supervisor Vegas) and Come Fly Away (Resident Director). Regionally: Associate Choreographer Tin Pan Alley Rag, The Full Monty, and Damn Yankees. She is currently Associate Choreographer on Honeymoon in Vegas.

    TONY TESTA Originally from Fort Collins, CO, Tony Testa started dancing at 8 years old, studying tap, ballet, jazz, contemporary, breakdance, and hip-hop in his hometown of Fort Collins, CO. From an early age he assisted the classes that his mom would teach, and soon enough he had unveiled his true passion for choreography. Now at 26, his work has brought him collaborations with Janet Jackson, Kylie Minogue, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, 1 Direction, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, Versace, Sketchers, Toyota, The Voice UK, Disney, Nickelodeon, & with Michael Jackson on his final project, This Is It. In addition to his career in the pop industry, Tony is now beginning to use choreography to bring social awareness and promote positive transformation. His recent installations at the LACMA Museum & TEDx were both for the sole purpose of raising awareness about the devastating consequences of over-fishing.

    CINDY SALGADO Born in Sunnyvale, California, Cindy Salgado trained in multiple styles of dance and continues to explore a range of inspirations. After graduating from the Juilliard School in 2005, with the Princess Grace Award, she began freelancing in New York. She danced for Aszure Barton & Artists on projects such as Busk and Mikhail Baryshnikovs Hells Kitchen Dance Tour. She has also worked with Andy Blankenbuehler (The Wiz, In The Heights and Bring It On), Mia Michaels (SYTYCD), Cirque du Soleil (Delirium), Anna Vissi in Greece and Peter Chu (ChuThis). She has taught and choreographed for dance schools throughout the US, and has been a guest teacher at Santa Clara University. She is a cofounder and teacher for ASTEP, an outreach organization that provides arts programming for underserved children internationally. Cindy is honored to currently dance for Crystal Pites company, Kidd Pivot, and has been with the company since 2009.

    DISTINGUISHED FACULTY

    Joe graduated from the University of Southern California with a BFA in Theater under the chairmanship of John Houseman. He successfully juggles the roles of Choreographer, Director, Producer, Teacher, and Entrepreneur. As the Executive Director and Choreographer for New York City Theatrical Events, Joe has produced,

    directed, and choreographed countless live industrial shows and special events. Clients have ranged from IBM and Schering-Plough to Rite-Aid and Tupperware. His choreography has been featured everywhere from soap operas to MTV, Off-Broadway to stages around the world- including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and Edinburgh Theater Festival. He was on the original creative staff for the hit TV series, CLUB MTV on the MTV Network. He has worked with such stars as Bill Cosby, Diahann Carroll, and Broadway greats Andrea McArdle, Lee Roy Reams, Lorna Luft, and Lucie Arnaz. He has produced entertainment extravaganzas for international events and heads of states from Washington DC to Istanbul, Turkey to Tokyo, Japan to Zambia, Africa. He has created, directed/choreographed dozens of critically acclaimed conceptual song/dance revues, special events, and New Years Eve Spectaculars for many of the Atlantic City Casinos- mainly the Trump Taj Mahal, the Atlantic City Hilton, and the Tropicana. Joes dynamic style and explosive choreography have established him as a driving force in the shaping of New York City dance style. He has been the topic of many articles in various dance publications- including the cover story of the nationally recognized Dance Teacher Now. He has been invited to serve on the faculty of many international arts centers- Mexico, Japan, Turkey, Italy, Denmark and more! He regularly serves on the faculty of the Jazz Dance World Congress. Joe enjoys traveling the country, nurturing the next generation of dancers and discovering new talent. His students grace the stages of virtually every show currently running on Broadway. He is always cultivating new projects and special events, often utilizing the talents of NYCDA dancers. He continues to teach in New York City at Steps on Broadway and has served on the prestigious faculty of The Julliard School since 1992.

    LEAH BRANDON Leah brings a unique combination of artistic and administrative talents to her position as Managing Director of NYCDA & Theatrical Events. Her years as a professional dancer in NYC musical theatre include the Lincoln Center production of Anything Goes, in which she served as dance captain and was the associate in the restaging of the Tony-award winning choreography for Londons West End. She additionally performed in many other productions, including Gypsy, 42nd St. and Singing in the Rain. Prior to starting NYCDA with Joe, Leah was a principle manager at Steps on Broadway in NYC where she directed the Young Peoples Dance Program as well as Scholarship Program for pre-professional dance students. Leah is a cum laude with honors graduate of Butler University and has two beautiful daughters, Cassidy and Austin.

    DANA WILSON Dana has worked on film (Shrek 4,Charlie Wilsons War) commercials (Verizon, Travelzoo, Reeses) and countless music videos. Youve seen her on SNL, Ellen, Dancing With the Stars, Americas Got Talent, Jimmy Fallon, and American Idol. Dana also appeared as a choreographer on SYTYCD Season 7. Dana has worked with many recording artists from Justin Timberlake, Justin Beiber, Britney Spears, to Earth Wind & Fire, The Backstreet Boys, and Joe Jonas. On and off the clock, Dana is a leading voice in her community, as Dancers Alliance Board member, SAG/AFTRA Ambassador, and creator of her very own Dance Industry web-series called More Than Moves TV. She is an admirer and student of movement with a soft spot for dance history, and a finger on the pulse of the future of the dance industry.

    CHLOE ARNOLD NY and LA based Chloe Arnold, is the Co-Founder of Chloe & Maud Productions DC Tap Festival, Co-director of the Los Angeles Tap Festival and Director/Choreographer of her female tap company, Syncopated Ladies. Chloe has performed on SYTYCD, Dancing with the Stars, Americas Got Talent, and will be on this season of HBOs Boardwalk Empire. Recent credits include: Beyoncs Pepsi & H&M Commercials, co-starring in Debbie Allens Alex in Wonderland, Jason Samuel Smiths Charlies Angels, co-producing the documentary, Tap World, launching her web travel series, Chloes World and choreographing for Canon and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Film/TV appearances include: The Discovery Channels Time Warp, CWs The Parkers, One on One, Nickelodeons Brothers Garcia and the feature film Make Your Move 3D. Chloe is guest faculty at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, The Broadway Dance Center, and Steps on Broadway, and will be adjunct professor at Pace University this fall. www.chloearnold.com

    MELISSA HOUGH Melissa Hough began her career as a Dance Alliance kid! She won the Junior, Teen and Senior National Outstanding Dancer awards while competing with Dance Explosion, located in Glen Burnie, MD. She also trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, DC. She has since gone on to be a principal dancer with Boston Ballet, first soloist with Houston Ballet and most recently joined the Norwegian National Ballet in Oslo, Norway. Along with her accomplishments as a dancer, she has also choreographed for the Boston Ballet, Houston Ballet and Oregon Ballet Theater. In 2011, she was the recipient of the New York Choreographic Institute Fellowship and was commissioned to make a work for Houston Ballets 2013-2014 Season. Hough teaches ballet and contemporary for New York City Dance Alliance and is thrilled to contribute to the same organization that inspired her so much when she was a young dancer.

    RACHEL KREILING Rachel is a current member of Alison Chase/Performance (led by Alison Chase, founder of Pilobolus Dance Theater). Native of Pittsburgh, PA, she began performing around the world at 18, as a featured adage dancer at Tokyo Disney and performed throughout northern Europe as an adage partner and aerialist on Silver Seas Cruises. Rachel serves on the faculty of NYCDA, Onstage New York, and guest teaches workshops around the US. Also a Certified Pilates Trainer, she is currently developing and installing cross-training movement programs for pre-professional & professional dancers, movement educators, and athletes focusing on neuromuscular development training, performance enhancement, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Rachel was also an assistant and the head of our Ready, Set, Dance program from 2005-2010. Other credits include: Rasta Thomas ROCK The Ballet (Principal Dancer), Revolution (Dance Captain-Joyce Theater & US Tour), Bryn Cohn & Co., Bad Boys of Dance, and New York Theatrical Events.

    TAJA RILEY Born in New Rochelle, NY and raised in Virginia Beach, VA, Taja trained at Denise Walls Dance Energy and at age 15, won the NYCDA National Teen Outstanding Dancer title. She continued to follow her dreams by moving to LA and has since worked with Mia Michaels, Travis Wall, and Brian Friedman, assisting them on the hit television show So You Think You Can Dance and winning an Emmy for the infamous Addiction piece. Film and TV credits include For Colored Girls, Happy Feet 2, Glee, The X-Factor USA, and Oxygens All the Right Moves. Taja has also assisted with choreography for Britney Spears (Femme Fatale Tour), Demi Lovato (Skyscraper Tour), and Beyonc (Mrs. Carter Tour), and has danced for Janet Jackson, Ne-Yo, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Pitbull, Bruno Mars, The Wanted and many others. Taja is currently touring with Chris Brown and is part of the company Harlow Gold.

    MARTHA NICHOLS Martha began her training at the age of 3 in Brooklyn, NY and she continued dancing and competing in Raleigh, NC. Martha recently finished Rhiannas Diamonds world tour. Other notable performance credits include Kylie Minogues Aphrodite Les Follies world tour as a dancer and ariel specialist, Season 2 of SYTYCD as a top 5 Female, US tour of SYTYCD, featured dancer in the film The Marc Pease Experience with Ben Stiller, and Cirque Du Soleils Believe in Las Vegas, choreographed by Wade Robson. TV credits include NICKELODEONs Fresh Beat Band , FOXs Mobbed with Howie Mandel, Americas Got Talent, Dancing With The Stars with Christina Aguilera, Macys Stars of Dance with Corbin Bleu directed by Kenny Ortega, X-Factor, and The 39th American Music Awards with Nicki Minaj and David Guetta. Martha is a member of the Unity LA Dance Ensemble and is currently a resident dancer on the hit Italian TV show Amici. Martha has taught all over the world and has assisted Tony Testa for Demi Lovatos US Tour, Tabitha & Napoleon, Mandy Moore & Mia Michaels with various projects.

    JARED GRIMES Jared Grimes is a vibrant energy in the world of the arts where he is strongly reviving the triple threat mentality. He has danced alongside legends such as Gregory Hines, Wynton Marsalis, Mariah Carey, Barack Obama and popular artist like Busta Rhymes, Common, and Salt N Peppa. Jareds live stage credits include Cirque Du Soleils, Banana Shpeel, choreographed by himself, Babes in Arms at the Goodspeed Opera House, Stormy Weather with Leslie Uggams, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, directed by John Rando, Twist directed by Debbie Allen, Cotton Club Parade directed by Warren Carlyle and Broadway Underground directed by himself. Grimes has appeared in commercials for MTV, Coca-Cola and Subway and television shows such as Foxs Fringe and HBOs Boardwalk Empire. His feature film credits include New Line Cinemas Little Manhattan, Elevation Filmworks First Born, starring Elizabeth Shue, and The Marc Pease Experience starring Ben Stiller.

    COREY SNIDE Corey John Snide started training in Albany, NY at the age of 3 in all styles of dance competing across the states. At the age of 13, he started his professional career portraying the role of Billy Elliot in Billy Elliot the Musical on the West End and Australian stages. After a year and a half abroad, he came home to NYC to work appearing in 13 the Musical on Broadway, ABCs One Life to Live as a dancer in their annual musical, and other guest roles on ABC, NBC and more. Since then, he decided to continue his training at the Juilliard School, Class of 2015 performing works by Jose Limon, Murray Louis, Monica Bill Barnes, and Emery LeCrone.

    GRACE BUCKLEY Grace grew up dancing in and around New York City before heading to Colgate University for college. Since graduating from Colgate University in 2007, Grace has dedicated her time to working and training as a dancer in NYC. When she is not traveling, she continues to focus on her training and work as a guest teacher/choreographer around the country, most recently debuting her choreography at the Joyce Theater this past April. Grace has performed as a member of DeMa Dance Company in Brooklyn, NY, Willow Oak Contemporary Ballet in Louisiana, and is currently on tour with Rasta Thomass Bad Boys of Dance.

    Chloe Arnold continues to work with Beyonce and can be seen on the new season of Boardwalk Empire. Andy Blankenbuehler is juggling Annie on Broadway, Bring It On on tour and his newest Broadway show called Fly. Grace Buckley is touring Europe with a new project for Rasta Thomas.     NEW! NYCDA for Dancers in College! NYCDA and NYCDA Foundation are proud to support dancers in college! We welcome you to join us for a weekend of great classes, and are happy to offer a student rate to all dancers with a valid college ID. We kindly require a $100 fee for all college dancers, which will be directly donated to the NYCDA Foundation.

    ONE DAY WORKSHOP OPTION: (non-competing dancers only) One day workshop registrations must be submitted on a separate photo copy of workshop registration form. One day option available both days for Teachers and Assistant Teachers, Saturday only for students. Register anytime up to the morning of attendance, based upon availability.

    ONE-DAY WORKSHOP TUITION RATES: Teachers: $185.00 Students: $150.00 Observer: $35.00 Dancers must be at least 7 years old to participate in the 2 day workshop. Regional Scholarships may be redeemed by deducting amount from total on workshop registration

    and submitting scholarship voucher. Teachers and Assistant Teachers are permitted access to all ballrooms. Teachers classes begin on

    Saturday at 11:30 AM all day Sunday. Registered Teachers will be provided with a special ID lanyard video pass, permitting them to

    videotape the final 15 minutes of all Workshop classes. Cameras may not be used at any other times. Observers are allowed with participating dancers and must not be teachers, dancers, or studio owners.

    Observers may observe classes in the Mini, Junior, and Teen and Senior ballrooms only. Workshop and Observer Registrations have been known to SELL OUT.

    Pre-registration is always suggested. If you plan to register as a walk-in, we suggest calling the NYCDA office to double check last minute availability. Non-discounted rates will apply.

    NYCDA reserves the right to limit Workshop Observers within each ballroom, subject to attendance and space limitations.

    NYCDA CLASS SCHOLARSHIPS: Each weekend a select number of

    dancers will be hand-picked by our faculty to receive NYCDA Regional Scholarships. Dancers

    will be selected for their talents demonstrated in the ballet, tap and/or hip-hop classes.

    PERRY-MANSFIELD YOUNG ARTIST INTENSIVE: Each weekend one talented dancer is automatically accepted t

    o this prestigious summer

    program in Coloradoand offered a partial tuition scholarship. The dance program is directed

    by Linda Kent of the Juilliard School. Perry-Mansfield is recognized as the oldest operating

    performing arts school in the nation. The mission is to provide young people superior arts

    training in body, heart and mind.

    STEPS ON BROADWAY SUMMER INTENSIVE: Each weekend one

    talented dancer is automatically accepted to the Summer Intensive at the internationally professional

    school, STEPS on Broadway in NYC. With this recognition comes a $800 stipend towards the tuition.

    NYCDA TRIPLE THREAT AWARDS: Each weekend a select number

    of dancers will be automatically accepted into the NYCDA 2013 Summer Dance Intensive.

    Dancers must demonstrate their versatility and work ethic throughout the convention

    weekend. This award also includes their nomination for one of eight $500 merit

    scholarships towards the tuition.

    NYCDA DIRECT CONNECT: Each weekend NYCDA will scout talent

    for current professional projects/opportunities and connect the dancers with the appropriate

    casting directors/administrators. All registered Workshop dancers will be considered for

    these Special Opportunities and Awards. No special audition required.

    Each weekend, the NYCDA Convention Finale focuses on the dancers!In addition to special dance performances, the Convention Finale offers all dancers the opportunity to showcase the hard work theyve done all weekend. Each dance studio can designate four dancers (1 from each age division) to participate in the finale ONSTAGE with the NYCDA faculty and all the other studio showcase dancers.

    (Studio Showcase Dancers will be accepted from all Studios with a Registered Teacher.)

    CONVENTION ETIQUETTE Dancers are expected to always maintain professional classroom etiquette. Dancers must wear cover-ups outside the ballroom area. Please respect the property of our convention and hotel sites. Excess noise or loitering

    in areas not NYCDA inhabited can be cause for removal. Help us maintain a pleasant relationship with our sites so that they will look forward to our return visits.

    Chaperones are required for students age 15 or under staying in the hotel. NYCDA and the convention and housing facilities are not responsible for personal

    injury or property loss. NO VIDEO CAMERAS ALLOWED AT ANY TIME DURING THE ENTIRE EVENT.

    NYC Dance Alliance seeks to informally introduce JUNIOR and MINI dancers to the NYC audition experience. Sunday is the designated Mini and Junior Scholarship Day.

    JUNIOR and MINI Dancers will be evaluated within their own age groups and awarded separate scholarships.

    Additionally, male and female dancers will be evaluated separately. Final results are at the discretion of the judges.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS (1) Dancers must be registered for the entire workshop as either a JUNIOR (age 11-12) or MINI (age 7-10).

    The age is as of January 1, 2014. (2) Dancers will be assigned numbers to wear all day Sunday only. Auditioning dancers will be asked to

    perform combinations from workshop classes and will be evaluated within their own age group. Final scholarships will be presented at the Convention Finale.

    In each city, two female dancers and one male dancer (both JUNIOR /MINI) will be recognized with a NYCDA 2013-2014 Regional Outstanding Dancer Award. This presentation include a special award from the respective sponsor, a year-long NYCDA Regional scholarship and a NYCDA 2014 National Season Finale! Workshop Scholarship.

    In each city, additional dancers (both JUNIOR /MINI) will each receive a NYCDA 2014 National Season Finale! Workshop Scholarship, as Regional runners-up.

    All JUNIOR/MINI winners and runners-up from the Regional Scholarship Audition will be eligible to participate in the National NYCDA JUNIOR and MINI Outstanding Dancer Audition in July of 2014. Cash awards and Scholarships will be presented.

    NYC Dance Alliance seeks to provide SENIOR and TEEN dancers with a professional New York audition experience through a scholarship audition class. Audition class will consist of a short ballet and jazz combination.

    Only auditionees and registered Teachers will be given access to the audition ballroom. Absolutely no observers.

    An elimination round may occur during the audition class. At the completion of the audition class, doors will be open to all students and observers for the

    Convention Finale which will include final scholarship performances, judging, and awards. SENIOR and TEEN Dancers will be evaluated within their own age groups and awarded separate

    scholarships. Additionally, male and female dancers will be evaluated separately. Final results are at the discretion of

    the judges.

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS (1) Dancers must be registered for the entire workshop as either a SENIOR (age 16-19) or TEEN

    (age 13-15). The age is as of January 1, 2014. (2) Dancers will be assigned numbers to wear in all classes during the convention weekend. Dancers may

    be asked to perform combinations from workshop classes during final Audition judging. In each city, two female dancers and one male dancer (both SENIOR /TEEN) will be recognized with a

    NYCDA 2013-2014 Regional Outstanding Dancer Award. This presentation includes a special CAPEZIO Award, scholarships to STEPS ON BROADWAY, PERIDANCE CENTER and BROADWAY DANCE CENTER, a year-long NYCDA Regional scholarship and a NYCDA 2014 National Season Finale! Workshop Scholarship.

    In each city, additional dancers (both SENIOR /TEEN) will each receive a NYCDA 2014 National Season Finale! Workshop Scholarship, as Regional runners-up. All SENIOR/TEEN winners and runners-up from the Regional NYCDA Scholarship Audition Class will be eligible to participate in the National NYCDA SENIOR and TEEN Outstanding Dancer Audition in July of 2014. Cash awards and Scholarships will be presented.

  • NEW! All ages are as of January 1, 2014 for the entire 2013-2014 season, including Nationals. NEW! To reach the average age of an entry, add all the ages together and divide by the number of

    dancers in the entry. After averaging age, DROP THE DECIMAL to come up with the competition age for the entry. For example: An entry whose average age is 10.7 will compete as age 10. Names, ages and birthdates of all dancers must appear on the entry form or it will not be accepted. All competing dancers must be prepared to present proof of age should a question arise.

    Competing dancers must be at least 7 years of age. (Ready, Set, Dance! dancers may compete as long as the average age of the entry remains 7+.)

    The average age of each entry may not drop more than one age division below the age of the oldest dancer in the entry, regardless of the actual average age. Example: If an entry contains dancers ranging in age from 9-18, the entry may not compete younger than 13-15 (one division younger than the oldest dancer-18).

    PERFORMANCE DIVISIONSJAZZ consists of primarily jazz technique, utilizing uptempo music.BALLET consists of ballet or pointe technique. Must include classical steps and movements.TAP consists of tap technique. Tap shoes only.LYRICAL consists of jazz and ballet technique - emphasizing strength, control, and interpretation.MUSICAL THEATRE consists of Broadway/theatre dance styles.CONTEMPORARY consists of modern and ballet technique, reaching beyond the standard jazz vocabulary.HIP-HOP consists of street, funk, MTV video style jazz technique.SPECIALTY consists of ethnic, acro/gynmastics, novelty, etc. NEW! OPEN consists of all other categories.Judges reserve the right to change the competing dancers category if the number has been entered improperly.

    All competing dancers and their teachers, must be registered for the entire workshop at the city where competing.

    Competition fees and workshop registration tuitions must be submitted simultaneously, but must be written on separate checks. All competition entries must be postmarked 30 days prior to the convention.

    All competition fees are per person, per entry. An official entry form (copies OK) must be submitted for each entry. Competing dancers may enter as many categories as desired, as long as they never compete

    against themselves. Competing dancers may compete for one studio only. Schools with multiple locations may compete as separate studios as long as there is NO mixing of

    dancers from each location. No combining of dancers allowed for extra discounts for National Season Finale! Registration.

    Competing dancers may compete in more than one city. However, if an entry wins a gold, high gold or platinum NYCDA award in a regional, that entry cannot compete in another NYCDA regional.

    2012-2013 Regional Critics Choice Award winning entries may not compete again in 2013-2014. Entries that have performed in either 2013 National Gala may not compete during the 2013-2014

    Regional Season. Professional dancers are welcome for the workshop but will not be permitted to compete if over

    age 18. New! Soloists do not need to be entered in a group, line, or production in order to compete.

    Soloists must have a registered teacher for the workshop. Individual dancers may not compete more than 2 different solos per weekend. Registered Teachers may only compete in the Open (19+) age division. The deadline for competition changes is 2 weeks prior to the convention. No changes will be

    accepted after this date. SETS/PROPS: Studios are responsible for the transportation, storage, set up and removal of all sets

    and props. Check with each venue, as fees and restrictions may apply. The use of any set piece will require the submission of a SETS & PROPS form. Contact the NYCDA office for details.

    No dangerous props may be used during the competition (swords, fire, etc.). General props are allowed but must be taken on and off stage expeditiously. Any unnecessary delay will result in a point deduction. Have a clean-up crew ready for any litter left on stage.

    Excessive scenery and special lighting may only be utilized with pre-approval from NYCDA. Tap sounds on recordings of tap entries will result in 5 pt. deduction. Entry numbers containing more than 2 gymnastic passes MUST be entered in the Specialty category.

    Otherwise, 5 points will be deducted and the entry will be moved to the appropriate category. Competing dancers should be ready 30 minutes prior to their scheduled competition time. If the

    competition is running ahead of schedule, you will be expected to perform. Competing dancers must perform in the scheduled sequence unless special permission is granted

    by the M.C. Intentional manipulation of performance schedule will result in disqualification. All dancers and their teachers are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and general support

    of all participants. Choreography/costumes that are not considered age appropriate by the judges will have 10 pts.

    strictly enforced. Entries may be critiqued on a NON-COMPETITIVE basis. Decision must be finalized two weeks

    prior to competition date.

    MUSIC REQUIREMENTS NEW! Competition music can be uploaded PRIOR to your convention weekend! Additional

    information to be sent in confirmation packets. Additionally, you may provide your competition music on USB at Registration. Please have a backup available for each entry. EACH Audio Track must be labeled in the following format: 3 Digit Entry # - Title of Entry -

    Studio Code Letter. Music Files should be in a Mac compatible format, such as .mp3, .wav , etc. It is recommended that all music be recorded in a non-dolby format with audio recorded on

    both left and right channels.

    VIDEO & PHOTOGRAPHY ALL VIDEOTAPING AND PHOTOGRAPHY IS STRICTLY PROHIBITED DURING THE WORKSHOP CLASSES, COMPETITION & CONVENTION FINALE. This includes the use of cell phones to take video/photos and ALL still photography with or without flash. Disqualification could result. Professional quality photos and videos of the competition will be available for purchase

    on-site. Registered Teachers with Video passes will be permitted to tape Workshop Classes Only. All dancers authorize the use of their image in photos and video for NYCDA publicity and advertisement purposes.

    ADMISSION Admission to the competition is free. Audience will be allowed to enter and exit between numbers only. Doors will be closed during performances. Teachers of competing dancers will be given reserved seating. However, absolutely no visual coaching is allowed.

    JUDGING CRITERIA Technical Ability 50% Performance and Interpretation 20% Choreography and Musicality 20% Overall Appearance 10% All decisions by the panel of judges will be final. Judges score sheets and critiques may be

    picked up at the Registration Desk on the morning following the competition. These items will be given to the teacher only.

    NEW! Studio Standout Award! recognizing the highest scoring entry from each studio (with 8 or more group entries).

    Overall high scores in each age division (7-10), (11-12), (13-15), and (16-18) will receive a special award and a Regional Convention Scholarship (excludes solos and duo/trios).

    Overall high score soloists in the Mini, Junior, Teen, and Senior age divisions will receive a Regional Convention Scholarship and a special presentation from Body Wrappers. Each performer may only place one time in Overall High Score Soloists, recognizing the soloist, not the solo.

    One Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior entry will be selected to receive the NYCDA Critics Choice Award and will be presented a special plaque of achievement. This entry must be a Group, Line or Production. Each age classification must each have 6 entries to warrant the awarding of the Critics Choice Award.

    All dancers will have the opportunity to participate in a special showcase

    performance, on stage at Pace University. Each dancer will be cast in at least

    one performance piece. Additional pieces may be designated. All casting will

    be determined by an audition at the beginning of the Summer Dance Intensive.

    The NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive will accept a limited enrollment of aspiring professional dancers ages 14-19. Admittance is granted by video audition. All 2013-2014 NYCDA Regional Outstanding Dancer Scholarship Winners and Runners-Up are automatically accepted to the program.* All 2013-2014 NYCDA Regional Convention Triple Threat Scholarship Winners are automatically accepted to the program.* All 2014 ONSTAGE NY Regional Title Winners are automatically accepted to the program.*

    APPLICATION GUIDELINESAll prospective NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive students must provide the following: Completed application form Photo or headshot with a resum, if available 2 letters of recommendation from dance instructors or qualified dance professionals Video/DVD (required of all dancers in attendance for audition/placement) Copy of Birth Certificate Non-refundable Application Fee of $35.00 1x1 photo for identification card

    All applications must be postmarked by April 4, 2014. EARLY DECISION applications will be accepted only if no financial assistance is requested. EARLY DECISION applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2014. Applicants will be notified by March 31, 2014.

    LOCATION Pace University (1 Pace Plaza, New York, NY)Pace Universitys New York City campus is located in the heart of lower Manhattan and serves as an intellectual and cultural focal point for one of the citys most dynamic and vital areas. Dorm rooms with bathrooms on each floor Free Laundry on each floor 24 hour security and safe deposit boxes Air conditioning in each room Check-in is Sunday, July 27th. Check-out is Monday, August 11th.

    NYCDA will provide live-in chaperones. A 10:30 PM curfew will be enforced for all dancers.

    Videos may be in DVD-R format, or sent via email attachment or as a link to a private YouTube video. Maximum video length is 15 minutes and an index of all material must be submitted.

    VIDEO AUDITION GUIDELINES All video/DVD audition must include the following: Video intro of dancer stating name, age, and all material presented on the video. Ballet - (required) Present both a short adagio and grande allegro combination demonstrating control, line, extension, jumps and turns. Jazz - (required) Present short jazz and/or lyrical/contemporary combination. Solo performance piece is not required but may be submitted.

    Up to three different solos may be p resented to demonstrate a variety of styles - 3 minutes max each. Tap - not required but must be submitted if interested in the Tap classes. Singing - not required but should be submitted. All dancers will participate in some level of

    Vocal Training classes. Include live vocal presentation of a Broadway uptempo and ballad.

    Tuition with Room and Board: $3600* Tuition Alone (includes Lunch Daily): $3000* *Includes admission to a Broadway show and potentially other performances.

    TUITION The NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive will be limited to 100 dancers. All dancers will be notified by April 28, 2014. (Early notification may be requested) A 25% tuition deposit will be due by May 12, 2014. Second payment will be due by June 2, 2014.

    Full tuition will be due by June 23, 2014. No refunds will be made after June 23, 2014. Refunds prior to June 23 will be subject to a 10%

    administrative fee. A very limited number of scholarships will be made available based upon financial need. Those applying for scholarships should include a letter indicating need and copies of the last two years parental tax returns. All Convention Triple Threat Winners will be considered for 1 of 8 $500 scholarships based solely on merit as demonstrated by their application materials.
