    SAP BW Precalculation Service for MicrosoftExcel

    BEx Information Broadcasting allows you to precalculate Microsoft Excel workbooks. Theprerequisite for using this function is that you have installed the SAP BW PrecalculationService for Microsoft Excel.

    1 Implementation Considerations

    The SAP BW Precalculation Service, an RFC server software, is an additional service forSAP NetWeaver BW and SAP BEx that is installed on your client or server. Ideally it shouldbe installed on a server. The clients can schedule the precalculation of workbooks.

    2 Installation Step by Step

    This section provides an overview of the complete installation procedure.

    You can print out the tables below, follow the installation sequence exactly as shown in thetables, and mark the steps when completed successfully.

    3 Planning the Installation

    Make sure that you read Installation Step by Step before you start your installationplanning.

    3.1 Hardware and Software Requirements

    The following table lists the requirements:

    Hardware requirements Your system should meet allrequirements for Microsoft Excel 2003and Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7.

    Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0

    Microsoft Excel 2003 or higher

    Ensure that the installation source isavailable for the first precalculation, becauseExcel must be configured for the systemuser. More information is available inMicrosoft Knowledge Base Article 257757.

    4 Preparing for Installation

    You can install the precalculation software from the installation DVD GUI 7.30 FinalCompilation 1.

    5 Installing the SAP BW Precalculation Service

    This procedure tells you how to install the SAP BW Precalculation Service on your client.

    1. Log on to your host as a user with administration rights.

    2. Start the precalculation setup program from the DVD. This setup can be located at

    \PRES1\BI_PreCalServer\SapBiPcsSetup.exe.

    The welcome screen of the SAP BW Precalculation Service setup wizard appears.

    The setup now checks the system for the prerequisites. Depending on the availability,

    setup prompts you with suitable message. If all prerequisites are met, following

    screen appears.

    If the client machine does not meet the prerequisties, the installation wizard lists the

    missing elements. Click on Finishto terminate the setup. In order to ensure that the

    system meets the prerequisites, refer to SAP Note 1640140.

    3. Click Next to to proceed with the installation.

    4. The Installation wizard will now prompt you for information needed to customize the

    installation of Precalculation service - for example installation folder:

    The default is C: \ Pr ogr am Fi l es ( x86) \ SAP\ Busi ness Expl or er

    You may change that, but only if you wish to.

    5. Click Next to install.

    The Installation Tool records the progress also in a LOG file that can be found at:

    % ProgramFiles%\Sap\SapSetup\Logs\NwSapSetup.log

    Errors, if any are recorded inside:

    % ProgramFiles%\Sap\SapSetup\Errors\SapSetupErrors_.xml

    In event of any need to communicate with SAPs Support Team for issues with theinstallation process, supplying the above mentioned files will help in quickerdiagnosis.

    6. The wizard will present a status page indicating the success of the operation:

    In event of error, the above dialog will display an error message along with a link to adocument that will convey the nature of error(s).

    6 Post-Installation

    Creating and Starting the Precalculation Server

    After installation, the following Microsoft Windows service appears in the managementconsole of the operating system

    SAP BW Precalculation Service

    SAP BW Precalculation Service MultiInstance

    We can access the Service as mentioned below:

    Start Runservices.msc OR

    Start Right click on Computer name Manage. In the computer management dialog,Services and Applications Services

    It is recommended to use SAP BW Precalculation Service MultiInstance overSAP BWPrecalculation Service. So here onwards, explained steps apply to SAP BWPrecalculation Service MultiInstance.

    To activateSAP BW Precalculation Service MultiInstance

    Right click on the SAP BW Precalculation ServiceProperties.

    In the Properties dialog, select Log On tab and select Local System Account.

    Note: If you get warning message The SAP BW Precalculation Service MultiInstance service

    on local computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have nowork to do, for example, Performance Logs and Alerts service.

    Set the security level to LOW

    StartControl Panel System and SecurityChange User Account Control Settings,Set to Low.

    Before you can start the service you must first determine which precalculation server isavailable for the BW system. You do this in BW Customizing.

    1. Log on to the BW system on the PC on which the SAP BW Precalculation Service is

    installed and open Customizing (transaction SPRO): SAP Reference IMG SAPNetWeaver Business Intelligence Settings for Reporting and Analysis Settings for Information Broadcasting Administrate Precalculation Server. (OR)Perform transaction RSPRECADMIN

    2. Choose Create Precalculation Server(F8).

    3. Enter the technical name of the server (maximum 10 characters) and a description.The precalculation server appears in the list.

    4. After you refresh the view , the status display for the precalculation server in BWadministration displays a green traffic light. The precalculation server is now ready foruse.

    5. Double click on the server to access the test execution screen.

    7 Installation Check

    Any messages about the SAP BW Precalculation Service are displayed in the managementconsole of the operating system (Start Right click on Computer name Manage. In thecomputer management dialog,System Tools Event Viewer)

    You can also select the server in the administration of the precalculation server (transaction

    SPRO: SAP Reference IMG SAP NetWeaver Business IntelligenceSettings forReporting and Analysis Settings for Information Broadcasting Administrate

    Precalculation Server). Use Information on the Server to display the current instances and

    the status of the server (online, offline). You can also display or delete the front-end log. Thefront-end log is a log file in which errors that have occurred are displayed.

    8 Additional Information

    8.1 Upgrading the Service (3.50 or 7.x to 7.30)

    Before you upgrade, you must first stop the SAP BW Precalculation Service and uninstall theold version of the service.

    Stopping the SAP BW Precalculation Service

    We can access the Service as mentioned below:

    Start Right click on Computer name Manage. In the computer managementdialog, Services and Applications Services

    2. Select the SAP BW Precalculation Service and choose Stop from the context menu.

    This stops the service.

    If messages appear while you are stopping the service, proceed as follows:

    1. Select the serviceand choose Properties from the context menu.

    2. Change the Startup Type to Manual.

    3. ChooseApply and then OK.

    4. Select SAP BW Precalculation Service and choose Properties from the context

    menu.

    5. Change the Startup Type to Manual.

    6. SelectApply and then OK.

    7. Restart the computer. This stops the SAP BW Precalculation Service.

    The status display, which displays Started when the service has been started, will be blankonce the service has been stopped successfully. Now you can start to remove the program.

    Removing the Old Version

    1. Choose Start Control Panel Add or Remove Programs resp.Programs and

    Features (depending on the version of the operating system).

    2. Choose SAP BW Precalculation Service.

    3. Choose Remove resp.Uninstall(depending on the version of the operating system).

    4. Once you have removed the program, restart your computer.

    Installing the New Version

    1. Execute the SapBiPcsSetup.exe file from the NetWeaver Presentation DVD.

    2. Follow the installation steps as described in chapter 5 and complete installation. TheInstallation Complete screen appears after successful installation.

    8.2 Removing the Service

    To remove the SAP BW Precalculation Service, perform the following steps:

    1. Log on to your host as a user with administration rights.

    2. Start the SapBiPcsSetup.exeprogram from the DVD or go to the control panel

    Add/Remove programs

    SAP BW Precalculation Service.The welcome screen of the SAP GUI Setup wizard appears.

    3. Select option Uninstall.

    4. Confirm with Finish.
