NUTS & BOLTS Volume 1, Issue 4 May 2016

Our Awesome Season

Vintage Vehicles of Sun City, Arizona Email: [email protected]

Wow!! Almost a year in the making--and the Mercedes has finally found its new home! Once again, thanks to EVERYONE who sold tickets and made this the overwhelming success that we had anticipated a year ago! Over 1,400 tickets sold bringing in a record $14,000 + in ticket sales for the Club Treasury.

On April 19th, at our regular general meeting at exactly 2:00 pm, the tickets were placed in a rotary drum and thoroughly mixed. The winning ticket was drawn, and the winner was Jim Smith of Sun City!!! He, of course, was not present at the drawing, so I called the number on the ticket. At first he thought it was just a joke but soon realized from the cheering of the crowd in the background, as he was on the speaker phone, that he had actually been the Big Winner!

He was able to drive to the Lake View Center and join us where the Club Members were enjoying an Ice Cream Social after the meeting. We made the official presentation handing over the keys and taking pictures of the happy new owner. His response over and over was he "just couldn't believe it! He thought he was one of those who never won anything and he just couldn't believe it!!"

I'm sure most of you know one of our great members, Troy Cummins, very active in the Club, sold the winning ticket to his neighbor. At the time that Jim purchased the ticket--and he only bought one--Troy also convinced him to become a member of the Vintage Vehicle Club, which he did! Jim laughed and said it took almost every dollar out of his wallet to join the Club and buy the ticket--but "Wow! What a payoff!" The winning ticket #0083 was one of the first tickets sold in the raffle back in October or November. Although Jim joined the Club at the same time, he has not been an active member but promises he will be in the near future. Jim is a real car guy with his garage decorated with auto memorabilia and also has a beautiful 1963 Mercury Marauder sitting in it. He now says his wife will have to find a new place to park her minivan because the Mercedes can't sit outside! After the presentation, we accompanied Jim to get the hardtop that went with the Mercedes that had been in storage. Also, the same day went to the Motor Vehicle Department and had the Mercedes transferred into his name. As the primary caretaker for the car, I almost felt sad to see it leaving, but on the other hand, my Corvette was extremely happy to have its place back in our garage again! CONGRATULATIONS, JIM, and may you have many happy days of driving ahead of you!! Thanks again, to all the Club Members for helping out with the care of the car and the raffle and for making this such a success for the Club. I think this would be something we should do again in the future. If anyone knows of a car that might be available as a raffle car, please let us know. I had a great deal of fun with this project and would be willing to tackle another raffle car next season if it becomes available. Vintage Vehicles of Sun City Board Member

Vintage Vehicles SC Picnic

Our picnic went well considering it was a bit windy. We did run into a problem though. 78 people signed up but only 58 showed. This caused a real problem with the caterer. He prepared food as it was ordered but with so many no shows he was not happy. Because of this we will now require everyone to pay in advance for any events involving food. If you sign up for an event and cannot make it please call someone hosting the event so we can cancel your reservation. Thank you in advance.

VVSC Members:

I recently received this and (finally) thought to share it with the club JIC. I haven't seen evidence of any retailers offering E-15 but better forewarned, hmm? The reports (links below) each give credence to the warning so, let's be warned!

/// GaryG (2003 M-B SL500)

PS - I believe this warning to be legit. If you find otherwise be sure to post your findings and I'll stand corrected.

AAA Warning-WATCH THIS!

The EPA has changed the rules on corn used to make gasoline. E-15 Gasoline will likely come to local stations sooner or later.

Vintage Vehicles of Sun City, Arizona Email: [email protected]

You need to watch this and heed the AAA warning, and see what many vehicle manufacturers are saying about use of E-15.

This also pertains to Motorcycles, mowers, chain saws and all small engines.

It looks like they are starting to promote this stuff so be careful what you pump into your car or light truck. Pumps have to be clearly marked as offering E-

15! Don’t use it if you’re not absolutely sure that your vehicle is designed to use it. Most are NOT.

The cost may be slightly cheaper than the other options so it might look tempting. Most stations don't have it yet but be aware just in case.
