Hal Berry talked about NUPA 1 & 2. All bedrock with 12 inch to several foot
overlay. No black sand. Very fine gold, spotty, and could be found in rock
piles. Caf and hotel nearby.
Rich Roper reported a great time at Crescent and everyone found some gold.
Weather was variable with cold and snow one day and nice the next two.
Leo Richan demonstrated how to build a vacuum with a 5 gallon bucket and
leaf blower. A parts list and instructions were handed out and still available
through Carolyn.
Rich Roper has agreed to be the Wagon Master for the Crescent Creek outing
on April 19212.

Important information for Utah and Idaho claims(some changes from the last newsletter so please re-read)
The Utah water permit for recreational dredging:
http://www.waterrights.utah.gov/strmalt/rds.asp
You can file online at no charge. Be sure to have the dredge statement in
the comment section highlightedbefore submitting the form or the process
will not complete. Check the box for Sevier County, Mill Creek, if you in-
tend to dredge at NUPA Peekaboo claim in the Little Sevier Canyon. Print
and sign the form and keep it with you when on the claims.
The Idaho water use permit is required for each individual working in
groups of more than 5 in one area when using a pan, sluice, dredge or
high banker. No permit required for groups of 5 or less working in one
area (area not defined by Idaho). The fee is $10 for Idaho residents and
$30 for all others. Maps are no longer required with the permit and only
the drainage basin and stream segments are needed on the application.
Idaho dredgers must complete an EPA water permit process (new in
2013). The NUPA claims on the Middle Fork of the Boise (NUPA 5, Wish-
ful 1,2 and 3,) are still open to dredging (June 30September 30).
The EPA permits should be available now. Dredgers: please let Carolyn
know if you are interested in an EPA presentation explaining the permit.

maps and descriptions of open and closed waterways.
Nevada dredgers: Must file an application for a water permit revised in
February of 2013.

Osceola Outing
May 24 - 26Wagon Master to be determined
The claim is generously opened to us by the
claim owner and is a private claim on BLM land.
Prospecting will be in Dry Gulch.
There are several ways to get to Osceola and
this is just one of them. Google Maps and
MapQuest will give you several options. All
options will be from about 250 to 300 miles from
Salt Lake City.
Take 15 South out of SLC , exit 225 at Nephi
head West on UT 132 until US 6. Follow US 6past Delta into Nevada. Turn left on Osceola/
White Pine County road 35/38 and follow to
Osceola. (mountain pass dirt road of about 12
miles)
Camping for trailers several miles to the East
and also West of the old Cemetery
lower down the mountain. Tent
camp anywhere there are no
improvements or buildings.
Improved camping near Bakerabout 25 miles East and South
of mining area. Ely is about 25
miles West and North and has all
amenities. (including slot machines)
Intersection
6 & 35/38
Equipment: Water may or may not be pre-
sent. It only flows a couple weeks each
year. You can use pan, detector, re-
circulating unit, sluice, dry washer or high
banker. A dredge may or may be useful,
must be no larger than 4 and requires a
permit (see page 3). There is a lot of clay
which may make dry washing difficult this
time of year unless you work higher on the
bench areas on the East side of the can-
yon . ATV or truck useful to get to higher
ground. (Information courtesy of Lonnie
Fausett)

Day Outing
Saturday, June 8
Clear Creek, Raft River Mountains, UtahClear Creek is about a 2 hour drive from North Ogden so we thought it could be close enough for a day outing.
Clear Creek has a small, somewhat improved, no fee campground (pit toilets and tables) plus open camping alongthe creek. The roads are in good shape with lots of room for parking.
President Mike swears there is gold in Clear Creek we will take his word for it. A great place to practice sluicing and
panning, etc. though dredging is not allowed. Plenty of water yet good shallow spots for kids to practice or play.
Bring your tent or trailer or just come for the day. Pack your own vittles and prepare to pack it in, pack it out. Look for
the NUPA sign about 1/4 mile past the campground. Snowville is probably the closest fuel and food at about 30+
miles away.
Directions from Snowville:
From 84 take second Snowville exit onto
UT 30 and head West for about 15.8
miles
Continue on UT 42 W for about 5 miles
Turn left towards Cedar Creek and followfor about 1/2 mile, then turn right on
26400 for 6 miles (should be signs to
Clear Creek.)
Head South on 51600 W road and take
second right onto Clear Creek Road
Follow about 3 miles to campground
Go past campground to NUPA gathering

Odd Tips from www.goldfeverprospecting.com
Tie a few feet of fishing line to some small lead weights and affix balloons to the
line...set it loose down the river and watch where the weights settlethats a
good place to start your hunt for gold.
If you brush your teeth with a Sonicare battery operated toothbrush.save the
(2) magnets that drive the brush head when you replace it. These are very smallbut super strong magnets.you can easily separate them from the brush head
with a sideways twist. Use your new magnets to remove black sands from your
gold.
In & around hills of shale rock, carry a canvas bucket & long handled, digging
tool. Scoop out clay or soil trapped between pieces of shale, place scooped out
clay or shale into bucket & carry pail to water source & pan the bucket. Shale
rock cliffs & steep hillsides act as a natural sluice box & trap gold over the years
as rain water wears down the hills.
For a lightweight screen to fit over your miners moss, try plastic rain gutter
guard. At about 6 wide it works great in a mini sluice or mini high banker.
In the sewing/crafts section of Walmart and craft shops you can find plastic nee-
dlepoint canvas sheets which serves as a screen that fits between the carpet
and riffles of a sluice box. It can help increase gold recovery.
Club logo clothing for sale at club meetings. We have hooded sweatshirts, t-shirts,
hats and denim shirts. We also have some basic prospecting tools
and practice gold sand. Wide range of sizes from Large to 4x.and lots of colors.
Pay with cash or check.
