Numbers (Preschool to Elementary Students) The purpose of this lesson is to engage the students in learning numbers by having them learn how to count to ten with objects. This lesson can be further built up with other lessons. An example lesson is attached with this one. 1. 2 min: “Every day Common Greetings” exercise 2. 5 min: Introduce numbers a. Provide pictures and/or objects i. Group A: 0-5 ii. Group B: 6-10 3. 15 min: Number Songs a. Group A: Five Little Ducks Five little ducks went out one day. Over the hill and far away. Mother duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack”. But only four little ducks came back. <Repeat verse until you reach zero> Final verse: Mother duck went out one day. Over the hill and far away. Mother duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack”. All five little ducks came back. b. Group B: One, two Buckle my Shoe One, two buckle my shoe. Three, four open the door. Five, six pick-up sticks. Seven, eight lay them straight. Nine, ten a big fat hen.

Numbers

(Preschool to Elementary Students)

The purpose of this lesson is to engage the students in learning numbers by

having them learn how to count to ten with objects. This lesson can be further

1. 2 min: “Every day Common Greetings” exercise

2. 5 min: Introduce numbers

a. Provide pictures and/or objects

i. Group A: 0-5

ii. Group B: 6-10

3. 15 min: Number Songs

a. Group A: Five Little Ducks

Five little ducks went out one day.

Over the hill and far away.

Mother duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack”.

But only four little ducks came back.

<Repeat verse until you reach zero>

Final verse: Mother duck went out one day.

Over the hill and far away.

Mother duck said “quack, quack, quack, quack”.

All five little ducks came back.

b. Group B: One, two Buckle my Shoe

One, two buckle my shoe.

Three, four open the door.

Five, six pick-up sticks.

Seven, eight lay them straight.

4. 20 min: Activities/Homework

a. Snakes and Critters game: students would be provided a set of

snakes and critters toys. Using these toys, the students would show

the proper amount of snakes and/or critters toys based on what

number the teacher calls out. This game can be conducted with other

objects.

i. English sentence for the game

o I have (number and object)

ii. Helpful grammar points to teach

o I have (number and object) and (number and object).

o I do not have (number and/or object).

The purpose of this lesson is to build up on the students’ knowledge with

numbers by teaching them how to tell time. Not only would the students review

previous numbers, they would start learning big numbers by counting to twelve.

1. 15 min: Teach the students how to tell time by using Hickory Dickory Dock

song

a. Review 1-10, Introduce 11-12

i. Materials: animal and human hand puppets, clock with

numbers on it

Hickory Dickory Dock, the cat went up the clock.

The clock struck one, the cat went down.

Hickory Dickory Dock, the dog went up the clock.

The clock struck two, the dog went down.

Hickory Dickory Dock, the pig went up the clock.

The clock struck four, the sheep went down.

2. 20 min: Activities/Homework

a. Have the students practice saying time by using the clock provided.

i. English sentence for the activity

o It is (number) o'clock

b. If there is time, the students can create their own clocks with arts

and crafts materials provided.

i. Materials: paper, number stickers, markers/colored

pencils/crayons, glue, popsicle sticks to represent the hands of

a clock
