Case Study: US Navy Aircraft Carriers

Copper-nickel CHT systems located throughout the carriers (used

as waste drain systems), ranging from 100mm (4”) to 150mm (6”)

diameters.

Systems only had 18 month lifespan once in service and became

severely corroded due to waste and seawater travelling through the

pipes.

Corrosion caused deterioration and leaks throughout the vessels.

Nu Flow successfully cleaned and coated the systems to offer a

permanent solution.

Costs were one-tenth of the cost to pipe replacement solutions.

US Navy have strong faith in the product –Nu Flow have

rehabilitated almost 40 vessels as a result.

Built in 1964, rehabilitated in 1994.

Severely corroded fuel distribution pipes.

Pipe replacement would have cost millions of

dollars and caused damage to the ship.

Nu Flow successfully cleaned and lined 460mm (18”),

500mm (20”) and 560mm (22”) fuel distribution

pipes.

No destruction was caused to the ship.

Epoxy resin will prevent future corrosion.

The sounding pipe used in manual water

measurement was badly corroded at one access

point.

Nu Flow successfully cleaned and lined the pipe.

No disruption or displacement was caused during

rehabilitation.

Future corrosion was prevented as a result of

our unique, strong epoxy resin.

Fire suppression water system at the centre which trains more than 35,000 military

personnel each year.

Six buildings housing a state of the art computerized fire simulator built for the U.S.

Navy in 1993.

Over half a mile of black steel pipe ranging from 40mm (1 ½”) to 150mm (6”) in

diameter with multiple elbows, tees and transitions in diameter size.

Several buildings at the facility were experiencing multiple plumbing leaks. Re-piping

was considered but rejected due to high costs and lengthy down time.

Nu Flow used compressed air and garnet to clean the inside of the entire piping system

and then applied an evenly-coated layer of their patented epoxy to stop leaks and

prevent future corrosion.

Nu Flow successfully upgraded the durability of the fire suppression system and

coordinated the project by stages. They formulated a work schedule that promoted

clear lines of communication with the naval base personnel regarding the ongoing

work.

Waterfront Hotel sitting at sea level.

The sanitary drain line ran below the oceans water

table.

Corrosive sea water ate away at the drain line.

System was 70 feet of 4” cast iron pipe.

Nu Flow’s ‘Nu Drain’ was used to rehabilitate the

line and protect it from the ocean water.

No unsightly construction, and no disruption or

inconvenience was caused.
