amid the striking public art, restaurants and bars at Southbank. South

Wharf brings new meaning to the humble shed, with the loving restored

heritage sheds now housing a selection of diverse bars, restaurants and

cafes that all share beautiful waterside views.

A R T S P R E C I N C T When you’ve exhausted the drinking dens, subterranean

restaurants and witty street art of Melbourne’s laneways, what

else is there to do but go up?

The city’s Curtin House and Nicholas Building have been

characterised as vertical laneways, boasting the requisite

boutiques, bars and eateries, but both adding distinctly quirky

stamps to the scene.

legendary Boxing Day Test.

Catch the annual Australian Open at

Melbourne Park in January, with stars bashing

balls on Rod Laver and Margaret Court arenas.

Cheer on one and all at rectangular AAMI

Park, where you could see Melbourne Storm,

members of the National Rugby League (NRL),

Rugby Union team Melbourne Rebels, or

Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart, the

city’s A League soccer team and their rivals.

stroll around the Docklands, where there’s something for everyone from

foodies to footy fans, excited kids and shoppers with eyes for a bargain.

There’s a smorgasbord of dining options at Newquay, Victoria Harbour and

Waterfront City, tucked in beneath luxury apartments, lining the marina

and scattered around the office buildings.

C H I N A T O W N Step through the grand red gates of Melbourne’s Chinatown

and enter a whole new world of Asian cuisine, karaoke, cocktail

bars and hip fashion boutiques.

In Ballarat there is the desire for co-working – and all the innovation-collaboration-creativity-comfort-healthitpromises.This co-working desire looks towards the new culture of work. The co-working movement is part of a shift to a new economy.

These trends have a strong impact on regional areas. Over the years, young people in places such as Ballarat have left the city in searchofbroaderprofessionalandpersonalopportunities.Morerecently, as manufacturing declines and the local service sector struggles with competition from offshoring, talent retention andeconomicdevelopmentbecomesignificantchallengesintheregional context.

Ballarat Council is seeking to attract and retain the co-working movement to its regional enterprises as part of its positioning as a visionary capital city.
