    Question - Do you think NTO (National Tourism Organization) plays a useful role intourism? Explain your answer.

    Yes I think NTO is playing a major role in tourism.

    Sri Lankan Tourism Development Authority acts as the apex body of Sri Lanka Tourism. SLTDA was

    created in 2005 and its goal is to promote Sri Lanka and tourism resources to the world. Developing thecurrent market and creating new markets is a vital and the SLTDA is focused building market confidenceensuring profitability and developing investor confidence amongst various its various stakeholders.

    SLTDA is dedicated to seeing the Sri Lanka as the foremost tourism destination in Asia and is committed toworking towards pleasing their key stakeholders including domestic and international travelers. Some of itsactivities and the goals are listed as follows,

    SLTDAs goals Activitiesy P romote sustainable development of tourism as

    a key sector of the economy for the economicand social wellbeing of the people

    y P romote and reposition Sri Lanka in all relevantinternational markets and market segments

    y W ork towards delighting visitors (domestic andinternational) through effective and qualityfacilitation of access, accommodation and other services.

    y U tilize new info-technology tools to enhancethe effectiveness of tourism marketing andoperations.

    y B e catalytic in rallying the tourism industry towork as a team.

    y G enerate high yield, income, and employmentand contribute to regional development.

    y W ork in close collaboration with all stakeholder sectors such as sports, arts, crafts, culture,environment, investment, trade, the media andcommunities.

    y Tourism Development P roject :Collaboration with world bank Sri LankanG overnment has launched regional development

    program which will mainly looking at theKapitiya, Tricomalee, P asikudha andArugambay.

    y R esearch : SLTDA provides all the statisticaldate which is related to tourism .

    y Standard and Quality assurance y Tourism Marketing and P romotions y H uman R esource Developmenty Community Development y Community R elations y Domestic Tourism y MICE Tourism y Identifying and developing tourist specific,

    unique products and services, formulating andimplementing Tourism Development G uidelines

    y B usiness Tourism y Increasing Technological penetration in

    Tourism.

    W e can emphasize SLTDA some of the SLTDAs ongoing projects are as listed; R egional Tourism Development project / Sustainable Tourism Development P roject / Tourism infrastructure project, Ex: Deduwa P roject.

    SLTDA not only acting as a single entity and it will work hand to hand with local and international organizationsMinistry of Economic Development, SLIT H M, SLITO, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and U NW TO are some of

    the examples.

    Tourism has been identified as industry which is capable of effectively driving the country's socio economicdevelopment. The program's vision for the tourism sector is to make Sri Lanka the foremost leisure destination in theSouth Asian R egion. B y looking at the above facts I believe SLTDA is carrying out visionary plan and it will lead theindustry in future towards a successful arena.
