First Northern Ireland meeting of 2016 a major success

Annemarie Lambe details plans for Republic of Ireland PRS

Undeterred by the heavy snow fall and icy conditions, more than twenty members from across Northern Ireland gathered for the region’s first meeting of 2016.

The first presentation of the evening was given by Christine Joyce and Jason Simms of TyreSafe, who reported on the consumer body’s successful tyre safety campaigns in 2015, the results of its work with the NTDA on combatting illegal and unsafe part-worn tyres and its plans for 2016, which will be its 10th anniversary celebration year.

approves new format for Service Bulletins

At the NTDA’s Aftermarket Supplier Group (ASG) meeting on 20th January, the ASG membership unanimously approved the Association’s plans to re-launch its monthly, member-only, technical bulletins.

The new bulletins, which will be called Tyre Specialist Service Bulletins, will be edited and produced by St Albans based Aria Public Relations Ltd.

NTDA Director Stefan Hay said: “We are very excited to be working with Aria on this new initiative. I’ve known its Managing Director, Richard Pagett, for many years and he has an impeccable background in both magazine editing and public relations. The ASG members are equally as enthusiastic and many have already volunteered to provide content, images and guidance, to ensure that the new bulletins provide our retail members with excellent technical advice”.

The bulletins will be produced on a monthly basis and will be freely available to NTDA members in hardcopy, as downloads from the NTDA website and via an e-bulletin.

Agreed topics for 2016 are: Minimum Vehicle and Equipment Requirements for Working Safely at the Roadside; The Benefits of Nitrogen Inflation; An Update on Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS); Tyre Repair Best Practice; Correct Usage and Storage of Workshop Equipment; Training and Qualifications for Tyre Technicians; Understanding the Part-worn Tyre Regulations; Safe Inflation Procedure and Safe Storage of Tyres; Wheel Balancing; Laser Alignment; Manual Handling and General Workshop Health and Safety Considerations; EU Tyre Labelling – What Difference Has it Made?; Wheel Safety on Commercial Vehicles; Bead Breaking Best Practice – Using the Right Tools and Equipment for the Job; Mobile Fitting and The Dangers of Tyre Stretching.

NTDA welcomes new membersThe Association welcomed three new full members in January, namely: BTS Limited of Barking, Tyre Force NW Ltd and Tommy’s Tyres Limited of Coventry. Beaumonts Insurance Brokers now part of the Jelf Group plc, a leading independent consultancy providing expert advice on insurance, employee benefits, healthcare and financial planning for businesses and individuals has joined as a supplier member. The NTDA Directorate looks forward to working for, and with, all of these new members.

Have you booked for the NTDA Tyre Industry Conference and Annual Dinner and Awards?

October might seem like a long way off, but such is the popularity of the NTDA’s flagship events that more than 300 people have already booked for the Annual Dinner and the Conference is filling rapidly too.

NTDA Membership and Schemes Manager Alison Fitzgerald said: “We’ve been inundated with people wanting to book for both events and although we’re confident that we can accommodate people at the VOX for both the conference and the dinner, we are concerned that hotel accommodation in the area will be difficult to secure due to other events running at the NEC. I’d highly recommend that people be proactive and book now to avoid disappointment”. Attendance at the conference is free to event sponsors, NTDA members and those companies that have booked for the annual dinner, but places are limited and are operated on a first come, first served, basis.
