Eataly, the largest artisanal Italian food and wine marketplace in the world, is finally here in New York. Two years after Oscar Farinetti opened his groundbreaking food and wine market in Turin, Italy, he has teamed up with Mario Batali, Joe Bastianich, and Lidia Matticchio Bastianich of Batali-Bastianich (B&B) Hospitality Group to transform a 50,000 square - foot space in the Flatiron District into New York City’s premier culinary mecca.

The marketplace located at 200 Fifth Avenue (the former Toy Building) is the city's ultimate destination for food lovers to shop and taste and savor – an extravaganza includes a premier retail center for Italian delicacies and wine, a culinary educational center, and a diverse slate of boutique eateries. This gourmand's delight features cured meats and cheeses, fruits and vegetables, fresh meats, fresh fish, handmade pasta, desserts and baked goods and coffees.

Duane Reade takes its name from the Company's first successful full-service drugstore, which opened in 1960 on Broadway between Duane and Reade Streets in Manhattan. Since then, Duane Reade has grown to become the most recognized drugstore chain in metropolitan New York.

Today, the Company operates over 253 stores in commercial and residential neighborhoods throughout New York.

Trader Joe's has opened in Manhattan, wooing the city's food-finicky with the chain’s trademark, store-label delicacies. From fair-trade coffee to pristine produce, the airy, bright ground floor space tempts shoppers to fill their double-decker red wire carts with Trader Joe’s lemon-chili pistachios and signature trail mix, flash-frozen veggie blends, imported and domestic meats and cheeses, and Euro-style lemonade, not to mention the deep inventory of vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and organic food.

The chain's carved a niche for itself by bypassing conventional manufacturers and developing its own products, introducing a dozen new items a week. Famously close-mouthed about its recipes, store planners have also targeted urbanites long on appetite but short on time: Ready-to-cook meals abound, from Indian biryani to Chinese stir-fries; dozens of freshly prepared and appealing take-away suppers, sandwiches, and salads will satisfy even those with no time to wait. Twenty cash registers, each with a clanging brass bell, and hyper-cheery staff make cashing out a speedy, Splenda-coated breeze

Gourmet Garage, a five-store chain of airy, well-lit gourmet supply shops, features unusual imports as well as fresh organic produce, well-priced private-label oils, pastas, snacks, and vinegars, and distinctively strong Peet's coffee, from Berkeley, California. The fact that the Garage's offerings seem utterly familiar and increasingly ubiquitous is an odd testament to its success, as purveyors of imported exotica to America's top chefs. In the store's salad days over 25 years ago, when it was named Flying Foods, only chefs were permitted to stroll the warehouse aisles, but a hungry public demanded access—and were eventually allowed in, but only after the busy, early morning hours, once chefs from New York's best eateries had plundered the stocks. Epicures can happily fill their market baskets with a varied selection of high-end dry and imported goods, but cognoscenti head for the top-quality private-label staples, which easily compete with higher-profile imports. For eaters on the run, fresh-made sandwiches and wraps—upscale variations on standard American fare, like tuna with chipotle mayo—are available by the bushel basket. Each store features

takeout soups and a sushi bar.

Imagine a market where taste comes first, above all else. A place where the produce is hand-selected, where meats are prime cuts, and the fish is flown in fresh from the wharves. Imagine restaurant-quality prepared foods, the finest imported cheeses and other delicacies, and a variety of meats roasted and smoked in the Old World tradition. But it's no figment of the imagination; this market is Balducci's.

What started as a produce stand run by "Pop" Balducci has now become a gourmet powerhouse, with 6 stores located in Maryland, Virginia, New York and Connecticut. We have retained that passion for food that was the original inspiration for the market, and have used it to scour the world to bring customers the very best in new flavors. We also have a team of chefs on-staff to create meals worthy of the finest dining establishments in New York.

Rated best all-in-one market in Manhattan by Frommer, Fairway is where you will find the best and most modestly priced vegetables in the city. Cheeses are top of the line and well organized. The fish counter is excellent and, again, very modestly priced. The second floor of the Broadway store features hard to find health foods and a wide array of organic fruits and vegetables. Fairway also carries the gourmet items you might find at Dean & Deluca but at a fraction of the cost. The Harlem store is huge and features a walk-in freezer, complete with down jackets provided for customers' use.

A typical Stew Leonard's store will attract customers from a wider geographic area than a typical supermarket because customers are willing to drive longer distances. The store's famecomes from its innovative in-store marketing, which includes a barnlike wood decor, a winding path for shoppers instead of straight, parallel aisles, and animatronic singing animals perched above the shelving.
