Sea Festival in Ventspils on July 13

As a proper seaside city, Ventspils will celebrate the Sea Festival on the second Saturday of July. The festivities will be-gin on July 12 with a concert by the Bel-gium Symphonic Orchestra at the thea-tre house “sea gate” (Jūras vārti) 1 , on Saturday, all kinds of festival activities will take place on ostas street prome-na de  2 and in the courtyard of the livonian order castle 3 , as well as on the blue Flag beach 4 , where the Lat-vian and Baltic Personal Watercraft Cham-pionship will take place. Guests of the festival will also be able to enjoy the tradi-

tional Dragon boat race, a splendid festiv-ity dedicated to the 750th anniversary of the Ventspils Port, as well as the Festival’s concert of operetta music “Whirlwind of Melodies” and a dancing party in reņķa garden 5 with the participation of the bands “Lauku muzikanti” and “Tumsa”. The “Little Sea Festival” for the children of Ventspils and their friends will continue on July  14 in child ren’s town 6 and the children’s park “Fantāzija” in Pārventa 7 but seaside open-air Museum 13 will welcome everyone for Oskars’s day.

Ventspils City Festival on August 1–4

Every year on the first week of August, the City Festival takes place in Ventspils, during which the townspeople and visitors can enjoy different activities for all tastes. Keeping with tradition, this year the 723rd anniversary will be celebrated with the Baltic

International Flower carpet Festival and the Festival Parade, the Latvian Strongman Championship and a country-style party in the adventure park 8 . All day long, ostas street promenade 2 will welcome the “Rhythm Festival” with guests from Georgia,

Jamaica and Latvia. Different activities will take place in the town hall square 9 , dzirnavu square 10 and in the Children’s Towns, and you are invited to a dancing party in reņķa garden 5 – with Latvian pop-bands and guests from sunny Italy.

Ghetto Games Festival in Ventspils on August 8–11This year, the Ghetto Games Festival in Ventspils will last for four days, gather-ing together more than 1500 participants from 20 countries, who will compete in 20 sports disciplines. The aim of this biggest in Baltic States alternative sports and cul-ture festival is to encourage children and teenagers to choose active lifestyle and find their favourite activities – some of the sports disciplines, included in the festival’s

programme. The festival’s programme will be enriched with musicians’ performances and workshops for teenagers. Best Euro-pean sportists will compete at Ventspils Skate Park and BMX freestyle competition will be hosted by one of the leading hosts in the world – Catfish.

Splendid Sailing-Ship Regatta in Ventspils PortThe sailing-ship regatta “The Tall Ship Races” is the largest regatta in the world for sailing-ships together with yachts, attracting around 80 sailing-ships and yachts from all over the world each year. This year, from the 22nd to the 24th of July, the regatta will visit Ventspils, as one of the splendid highlights of the celebrations of the 750th anniversary of Ventspils Port.

New attractions in the Adventure Park

This season’s new offers in the adventure park 8 will be a pleasant surprise for every visitor. A lighted laminar fountain has been erected here with 46 water jets, there is a bumper car arena with electrical cars of 12 different models, a bumper boat pool with 12 bumper boats, a children’s Driving School, where they can learn to drive in a 912 m2 field with the streets of Ventspils duplicated in miniature, a synthetic ice rink for skating in

winter and in summer, and a Boat Jump – a free fall ride off a 9-metre-high trampoline. The new attraction area has also been improved with soft flooring and a new picnic area has been built with benches installed for resting.

Kurland Bike Meet in VentspilsFrom 19th to 21st of July, Ventspils, already for the tenth time, will host the Baltic Sea region’s bikers’ gathering “Kurland Bike Meet”. In addition to the colourful parade of motorcycles in Ventspils’ streets, vintage motorcycles from all over Europe will be exhibited on ostas street promenade 2 stunt tricks with personal watercrafts and wakeboards will be demonstrated, and everybody will be able to enjoy the performance of the rock band “Pērkons”.

Summer Recreation at the Baltic SeaEvery summer Ventspils beach 4 lures visitors from near and far with its white sand, sunbathing in the dunes and well-facilitated environment, because constant high quality is the most important thing. Separate sections of the beach are also dedicated to surfers’ activities and nudist relaxation; its compliance with international quality standards is certified with the “Blue Flag” certificate being awarded for the fifteenth time already.

Festival “Ventspils Groove 2013”On August 12–17, already for the eighth year running, Ventspils will host the festival  – master-classes of contemporary rhythm music “Ventspils Groove 2013”, gathering together experts of such music from Latvia and other countries. The participants will give concerts and acquire valuable experience in master-classes with world-class musicians; visitors of the events have a lovely opportunity to enjoy the musical performances of different genres.

On August 24th, in Ventspils adventure park 8 , Nordic Walking enthusiasts will meet for the fourth time already to spend this day together in active recreation. The participants will also enjoy a music programme, as well as prizes and a delicious meal after finishing the distance.

4th Latvian Nordic Walking Festival in Ventspils

European Junior Basketball Championship will take place in VentspilsAfter the Latvian youth Summer Olympic Games, from the 18th to the 28th of July, the next sports event will be ready to take place in Ventspils – the European U-18 Junior Basketball Championship with the participation of national teams from eight countries. Ventspils townspeople and guests will have a great opportunity to enjoy top level junior basketball games.

Ventspils Museum NewsVisitors of the Ventspils Museum can spend their leisure time partaking in fascinating activities: the house of crafts’ 12 weaver’s, potter’s and photo workshops are joined by a new member of the family – a candle-making workshop, where everybody can make their very own candle. In the new exhibition and pedagogical program “What Are the Bees Humming About” at the seaside open-air Museum 13 visitors can learn about the life of bees, and in the livonian order castle 3 , along with the reconstructed rooms on the 2nd floor, the exhibition “Kanpai – Cheers!”, dedicated to the traditional Japanese drink sake and its drinking cups, will be open all summer.

Two Mazbānītis Lines

In the seaside open-air Museum 13 visitors can take a ride on two Mazbānītis Lines 14 : one on the Ring line through the Seaside Park, the other on the Hill line towards the Adventure Park. See you at the museum!

Nicely dressed up for the summer, eight flower sculptures greet townspeople and guests, as does as the Flower clock 15 , precisely chiming the time each hour on Lielais Prospect. A pleasant cool and refreshing feeling can be found at the eight fountains, the most recent of which is situated in the adventure park 8 .

Ventspils CowsAfter the two Cow parades in 2002 and 2012, a nice herd of cows are dwelling in the city, later joined by the great travelling cow 16 , sailor cow 17 , Flower cow 18 and rocking cow 19 . Sea Gates – Close at HandSeveral times a day, the excursion boat “duke Jacob” (hercogs Jēkabs) 20 takes visitors and townspeople on a ride along the estuary of the River Venta down to the sea gates. The trip lasts a little less than an hour, and while you ride you can enjoy the sights of the Old Town, the port and the only bascule bridge in Latvia 21 .

Games and Fun in TownEvery day Ventspils children and visitors of the city can enjoy recreation in the playgrounds in the city’s parks and squares 23 – 31 and the two children’s towns. On Sun-days children are invited to special entertai-ning activities – at 12:00 noon in children’s town 6 and at 3:00  PM in the children’s park “Fantasy” 7 , where a new stage has been built recently to make the events even more spectacular.
