Powers and Abilities: The Speed Demon is an interesting man in the fact that hispowers derive from two different sources. Nick was born blind and as a partialmetamorph, but where his eyes would be were other sense organs. He emitsvarious sonic frequencies from these organs and his other senses have becomedeveloped to the point of near total compensation ... until he wants to watch TV,visit and art galleray or see a beautiful woman. His other mutant abilities are

relatively minor in comparison, jumping, metamorphics, and defensive adaptationsagainst an increasingly technological world.

Then he aquired the Heart of Hermes. A large coin-like medallion that adheres tohis heart above the sternum using some kind of magical bond. It has endowed himwith a tiny fraction of the powers of the god Hermes. He's still earthbound butcan run and leap faster and farther than anyone. Able to walk through a brick wallor building, lift 40 tons and still run at Mach3, he is the ultimate messenger. Stillstopped by lead and steel, he passes like the world fastest vapor cloud and leaves aflame trail wherever he runs. He also recevies warnings of events from Hermes orsomething claiming to be Hermes.

His main weakness is an acute vulnerability to sound based weapons. He also doesnot care for some of the new strains of rock and roll as they use harmonicfrequencies of his sonar and hearing senses and can literally 'blind' him whenhitting certain notes.

Family: Speed demon's family is dead. His parents and younger siblings wereexecuted by the Dai Nipponese as spies during 1947 while on vacation. He washome studying and working on his education. The event caused a major scandalwith the FSA State Department but nothing ever came of it except adeterioration in relations between the FSA and Nippon. As such he inherited atan early age and lives on his investments. He also maintains a burning hatred forthe Nipponese.

Even superheroes dream. .

History:

Nick Marshall had a fairly normal childhood in spite of his disabilities andmutations. Born 1/18/1927 he was one of the first human supermen born in theFederated States of America in the Eastern Coalition. His family was supportivebut his father grew slightly distant when he realized that his son would never seenormally.

Growing up was not that difficult even as a blind boy. He learned to read using his

fingers and able to play sports and what not so long as it did not involve catching orthrowing the ball. Football running back was his preferred position and he didalright in gymnastics but never truly applied himself to the sports. His truepassion was of course, music and chasing women.

Not having vision to compensate allowed him to truly get a feel for piano and thenew electric keyboards that are coming out and his ability to listen and perfectpitch stood him in good stead with his singing. He loves playing older tunes andsings most of the music from the 50's. The high point of his musical career wasplaying with Sinatra back in the early 50's when Frank was touring Pittsburgh andneeded backup players. Of course with his inherited wealth, he could play as a

lounge singer and not have to wory too much about making a living. It also grantshim plenty of opportunities to fight crime and / or party and chase women afterhis set is finished.

Probably the worst time in his life was the year 1947. The PanEuropean War wasstill raging in Europe and the Middle East, but Nick's father decided that a familytouring Dai-Nippon would be an exotic and memorable vacation. His father alsohad collected some japanese weapons before and wanted to aquire some more as hewas fascinated with them and had some extra money to spend. Unfortunately hisfamily were rounded up and literally beheaded as spies against the Greater East

Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. This even caused a minor firestorm with the FSA andcontributed to a deterioration in relations between the FSA and Nippon that stillexists even today (obviously for other reasons than executing tourists). As aresult SpeedDemon despises the Nipponese and their culture. Women andweapons, of course, are excepted in his hatred as they do no run the nation. AnyNipponese man however, is in for a fight when crossing Speed Demon. Nick alsokept his father's weapons collection and uses them extensively when fightingcrime.

Throughout most of his adult life. Speed Demon was just another minor low levelmutated superman doing the best to hide his abilities and keep a low profile whilehelping people out on the street. Nick, being basically a trust fund heir, worked asa lounge singer / entertainer as a cover identity. Being lesser powered kept him alittle humble (just a bit) and he did occasionally envy some of the supermen thatcould fly or shrug off bullets with ease. Of course he also never had to worryabout saving the world, just his little section of Pittsburgh.

Then in late 1970, he aquired the Heart of Hermes which is his amulet. He wasattempting to stop a museum robbery at Carnegie Museum of Natural History when

when he caught the bad guys and naturally trussed them up for the cops.Unfortunately a greek statue of Hermes was on display and was destroyed duringthe conflict. Examining the wreckage just before leaving the scene (so the copscould get the robbery suspects) he picked up the coin medallion and it practicallywelded itself to his chest. Fortunately it literally serves as a fount of knowledgeon itself and explained his new powers to him. It also doubles as a wealth ofknowledge on the Greek Roman Era of history as Nick has picked up as cornucopiaof knowledge on the subject and has assisted in a number archeologicalexaminations of various artifacts. Speed Demon now knows more on Greek andRoman history than anyone short of a PHD and he has a perspective that no oneelse can match. He's also learned to speak Attic Greek and Roman Era Latin like a

native. Nick has also beomce aware that there are other Hearts out there for theother gods of the Age. (Ares, Minerva, Zeus, Hades, Apollo and Artemis are just afew of them). Nick also believes that Jimi Hendrix had the Heart of Dionysisbefore his untimely death. Also, other people are aware of these amulets / heartsas a gang was sent to steal one. Nick is still waiting for that shoe to drop.

Since aquiring the amulet and the subsequent powers, Speed Demon has joined thebig leagues so to speak. He operates throughout the Eastern Coalition and hasstarted stopping some of the more evil and powerful supermen in the state ofPennsylvania. He's had to be very careful to avoid disrupting the towns and citieswith traveling above mach 1 along the highways. So his best methodology is to spin

up to Mach 3 and jump several dozen miles to where he needs to go. It still causessome disruption but not nearly as much as mach 3 travel at ground level. Histypical tactic will be to run at just under mach one until well outside a city and thenkick it to the max and start leaping to his target. He's also picked up an odd quirkthat he is incredibly well informed on news / events concerning the FSA's postoffices.

Personality: Nick / SpeedDemon is a bit of a wild man and is larger than life toanyone that meets him. Always brimming with energy he's always got a wittysaying, piece of sarcasm or something bound to infuriate his enemies and make hisfriends smile. Due to his other senses he has the disconcerting ability to lookother people in the eyes. Seeing a man with no eyes staring at you has a tendencyto unnerve the bad guys. Nick is pretty much a walking bottle of testosterone.

Friends generally call him, "The man's man" whereas his enemies call him a walkingnightmare. Feminists hate him, but he's not too concerned with that. He is acompusive carouser but knows that business needs to get done first (well, most ofthe time). He is incredibly popular with the ladies when he has a chance to charmthem on a date (effective INFL = 11).Speed Demon is slowing down a bit as he's now 45 but that never stops him fromstepping out onto the field to protect citizens and innocents. (Dex formerly 8, STRformerly 5) [He's not training nearly as hard as he used to as he is growing moredependent on the Heart of Hermes]
