NOYB

So its issue 2 time, We love get-ting together to decide what we were going to do with this issue, deciding what we wanted to say! We are organic, going with what calls out to us. Our brains scrambled with things we want to share and 9 times out of ten these will be thrown at a page, come what may.

Sometimes this works and some-times it doesn’t, but we find it is just best to go with it. This isn’t about rules what should or shouldn’t but seen or said. This is creative free living.

This month we want you to meet Bri-ony, an amazing emerging photogra-pher, her aim to capture reality is right up our street and hopefully yours too! Also Lauren Baker, a young talented artist!

As well as emerging music and more popular stuff that we are enjoying in the studio, as well the artists that are really making our festival season.

And just general stuff that you might or might not find interesting, but we did so it got put in here for you reading.

If you want to contribute- tell us your thoughts and feeling or, may-be you’re an emerging artist, pho-tographer, musician or writer we woud love to here from you. Spread you’re love with everyone!

The one specification for this issue was to keep it visual and fresh, so we hope you enjoy and notice this is about breaking the rules of fashion, don’t be told what to wear, how to live and where you should be going!

This is the artist Lauren Baker, I had the unbelieviable pleasure of meeting this lovely lady last year when I was doing some Visual Merchan-dising work and she came and showed her creations in one of the windows we were doing. Lauren had only been an artist for 18 months at the time, after having a life changing trip to the Amazon! From then she has only gone up!!

Her work is incred-ible and the ethics behind them just as inspiring as the cre-ations themselves. All of the deer skull used in her work have names and are sourced from the NA-TIONAL DEER SOCIETY, who have kept track of these animals from birth, All of the art work has a full life history and die naturally!Currently working with save the tigers.

She is a truly re-markable girl to talk to, To hear about her travels into the art world and the passion she has for her sub-jects is inspiring!!

Lauren has taken something natural and beautiful and make them spectacular, the young artist also runs workshops and you can check out her work in Ibiza this Summer.http://laurenbakermo-saics.com/

So the environment has been huge on the agenda recently! But whats it all about! Are people just jumping on the band wagon without knowing the facts? Who knows the answer to this question, although I feel most of the time the answer is YES!! It is great that people are bringing these issues to the front pages, taking them to the headlines! but one thing I can not stand is people saying they believe in issues for the sake of it, or using it to get publicity for themselves rather than the cause!

Fracking is the Environmental issue of the moment, as it has been brought to the North of Englands shores. Hydraulic fracturing (fracking), is the tech-nique designed to recover gas and oil from shale rock.

This technique has revolutionised the energy industry in America, but with all these things there is controversy:

- The worry that potentially carcinogenic chemicals used may escape and con-taminate groundwater around the fracking site

- The amount of water needed in this process that needs to be transported to the site has huge environmental consequences.

- The process can cause small tremors, like minature earthqukes, which have been felt in Blackpool.

“Shale gas is not the solution to the UK’s energy challenges,” said Friends of the Earth energy campaigner Tony Bosworth. “We need a 21st century energy revolution based on efficiency and renewables, not more fossil fuels that will add to climate change.”

but there are two sides to every story and there are short term benefits, driving down the price of oil and therefore petrol, which has been the case in America. It also has presented an opportunity to generate electricity at half the CO2 emissions of coal!

But these are in the moment, right now solutions! Short-term answers. Whether you believe that this is a stop gap solution, a huge mistake or the answer to the UK energy answer in the shape of Shale. Thats your decision, I personally like to think of long term solutions especially when it comes to the environ-ment.

And this is just another in a long line of environmental issues that people care about for 5 minutes before they are forgotten about and drop off the ra-dar but that is life and people are fickle! but if you care keep caring when others have forgotten!
