styles vary.Dear Road Theatre Audience:

Following the very successful season opener, The Spanish Prayer Book by Angela J. Davis, The Road Theatre Company welcomes you back to another journey of the heart and mind.

In The Spanish Prayer Book we traveled the decades through a complicated moral, intellectual and legal story of cultural/religious treasures displaced by wartime and the undeniable power of art to forge human connections.

Now we turn to an issue that couldn’t be more current and more timeless: borders. Road members Carlos Lacámara, playwright, and Stewart J. Zully, director, bring their pas-sions to bear on Nowhere On The Border. The existence of the border between the United States and Mexico and it’s impact on people on both sides resonates like never before. This hot-button, electric piece of theatre couples the politics and prejudice of our border with Mexico with the humanity of the people who navigate it daily as a matter of life-and-death. Suspenseful, heartfelt, sometimes blind and always coura-geous, Nowhere On The Border brings two fathers face to face whose issues with borders, their children and their personal past and futures collide. The story holds us in it’s grip as it takes us on a mysterious journey along the border where the lives of those trying to cross and of those trying to keep them out, of those trying to save or be saved unfolds.

Sincerely yours,

Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director Sam Anderson, Artistic Director

CARLOS LACÁMARA (Writer) A professional actor for over thirty years, Carlos Lacámara began his writ-ing career after visiting Cuba in April 2000. Having been only two years old when his family left, Carlos was moved by the hardships of life on the island. His observa-tions and conversations inspired him to write the play, Becoming Cuban, which The Los Angeles Times called “A rare, insightful new play,” and the LA Weekly proclaimed the “Best Political Drama of 2002.” Set in an advertis-

ing agency during Fidel Castro’s revolution, Carlos Lacámara’s next play, Havana Bourgeois, was presented at the 59E59th Theater in New York City, The Hayworth in Los Angeles and The Miracle Theater in Miami. It premiered at the Hayworth Theatre in 2006 where The Los Angeles Times described it as a work of “raw poignant power and insight.” The play also enjoyed productions at Repertorio Espanol in Manhattan and Stageworks Hudson in New York. Portland’s Artist’s Repertory Theatre produced Carlos’ third Cuban play, Exiles, which focuses on the turbulent Mariel Boatlift of 1980. Artist’s Rep also pre-sented Carlos’ first musical play, Cuba Libre, which showcases the music of the world-renowned Timba band, Tiempo Libre. Cuba Libre is currently in develop-ment for a second production. Carlos has co-authored four one-hour television pilots: Adam and Eve, written with wife, television show-runner Carol Barbee, and bought by Amazon Studios; Eagle Pass, optioned by Braun Entertainment; Prophesy, optioned by Fox TV Studios; and San Juan, optioned by CBS Studios. His screenplays include Killing Time and Children of Conscience, both commis-sioned by Dark Light Pictures.

STEWART J. ZULLY (Director) is a proud member of The Road, where he directed White Guy On the Bus, by Bruce Graham, and co-produced The Summer Playwright’s Festival (2017). He has directed in Florida, New York, Canada and in LA at The Odyssey, The LGBT Center, The Whitefire, and Theatre 40. Stewart co-wrote and co-produced the feature Perfect Opposites, starring Piper Perabo and Aaron Paul. Film/TV acting credits include Vice, Wolf, For The Boys, New In Town, Malcolm X, The

Sopranos, Blue Bloods, and Law And Order. Theater: Off-Broadway, LA and Toronto. His commercial for Citibank’s Identity Theft campaign won an Emmy as Best Commercial of The Year (2004). He recently published his memoir, My Life In Yankee Stadium: 40 Years as a Vendor and Other Tales of Growing Up Somewhat Sane in The Bronx.
