Now You See It … Our Magical Gala
A magic show that defied the eyes and the mind was the center of this year's Charity Guild Gala – titled "Magical Mischief" – on Friday the 13th (of October) at the Martin Institute of Stonehill College. Joel Acevedo and Steve Kradolfer – known as Four-Handed Illusions – drew laughs and wonder from an appreciative audience of 150, some of whom ventured onstage to participate with some trepidation. Among the magicians' feats were producing a marked card inside an orange and guessing what song was playing in someone’s mind. "From the perspective of where I was seated," said Guild chairperson Nancy Gustafson, "the look on the faces of the audience seemed as magical as the performance." In presenting Four-Handed Illusions, a regular act at Hampshire House on Beacon Hill, The Guild brought
entertainment of big-city quality to the South Shore. " 'Wow! How did he do that?' was heard often during the performance," said Barbara Janelli, the Gala chair. "They kept the audience spellbound and smiling. Terrific friends – old and new – delicious food, superb entertainment and a perfect venue equaled success for The Charity Guild's food pantry." The Gala is The Guild's major fund-raising event, and this year's edition included a gourmet dinner, silent auction, raffle and a wine drawing. In a sort of reverse auction, guests also made cash gifts to support Guild client families. Sixteen organizations and individuals supported the Gala as sponsors. At the Platinum level were Good Samaritan Medical Center/Steward Health Care, Stephen and Laurene Frederick and Mutual Bank.
