Term 3 Week 3 2011 NOW ENROLLING Bexhill School is now enrolling for Kindergarten 2012. If you wish to enrol your child for next year please call the office. Additionally if you know of a family who may wish to enrol at Bexhill please encourage them to contact the school so transition details can be distributed. We extend a warm welcome to new students James in Y6 and Jessi in Y2. EUREKA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL A massive congratulations to all students on their performance and behaviour at the Eureka carnival. It was very exciting to see so many of our students participating in the day and it was the ‘icing on the cake’ to finish the day with our arms loaded with trophies!! The students (and staff!!) have worked very hard polishing the athletics skills, and it is most satisfying to see the hard work rewarded. For those of you who may not have heard Bexhill Public School won the highest overall total, the highest average trophy, the relay trophy and, with Clunes, share the ball games trophy. There were also some individual brilliance from the carnivals with Brody Roberson, Jake Petty and Sam Stephen all achieving age champion. Jake also broke the 11yrs boys 100m record. A big thank you must go to Mr Marr and Mr Gilmore (and helpers!) for manning the first aid tent on the day, Mrs Roberson for the loan of the shade shelter and Mr Petty for his assistance in sorting the finals. A special thank you to parents who were able to provide transport for the day, and all parents for their support. Details for the Zone carnival will be forwarded home ASAP. END OF DAY ASSEMBLY A minimal change of routine has been implemented at the end of the day, for health and safety reasons. All students now assemble at the top COLA at 3.20pm for last minute messages and to assist in an orderly progression to pick-up areas. 3/4 EXCURSION The first instalment and notes are now due. Mrs T and Miss Koch will be making a decision as to whether the excursion will proceed at the end of next week, as minimal notes have been returned at present. NRL DAY A great day was had by all with students participating in a range of skill-based activities. There was much excitement with being able to meet some stars of yesteryear and hear their positive messages of working hard to ‘achieve your goals’. THANK YOU TO ............ Mr Jones for making the cage and Mr Shipway for welding the cage for our new speakers. Mr Petty for his wonderful assistance on the NRL day. ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOLS Places have now been filled for students to participate in this fantastic program for this term. This program commences NEXT WEEK (not in Term 4 as was published last week). Families have been contacted with regard to the change of days, however if arrangements no longer suit, please contact the school. A note has been distributed today outlining the ’finer’ details.

MILO CRICKET DAY Next Wednesday, Miss Koch will be taking two boys teams and one girls team into a Milo Cricket day at Lismore. This day is open to Year 5 and 6 students and teams will filled on a first in basis (teams of 8 will play). No prior cricket experience is necessary, as it is a skill development and fun day. This day is free of charge, however students will need to wear full sports uniform and will need to bring recess, lunch, water bottle and their school hat. This note will be forwarded home with this newsletter.

GYMNASTICS PROGRAM In week 5, the gymnastics program will commence (Tuesday 16th August). All students will be given the opportunity to participate in this program (even if an expression of interest note was not returned). This program will run during school hours from Week 5-Week 9. Our sports day will operate on Tuesdays as opposed to Fridays to cater for this. If your child does not wish to be a part of this program, regular sports sessions will still operate to cater for their needs. To ensure organisation is completed, notes and money need to be returned by next Wednesday so numbers can be finalised.

IT’S TIME TO START COLLECTING ‘SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS’ VOUCHERS FROM COLES

From July 29th shop at Coles and start collecting your Coles Sports for Schools vouchers. Don't forget, for every $10 spent at Coles, Coles Online, BI-LO and Pick'n Pay supermarkets, you

will receive 1 voucher for your school to redeem for sports gear! Plus throughout the program there will be opportunities to collect bonus vouchers with our special promotional offers on

selected products. So collect as many vouchers as you can before October 18th from family and friends to get more quality sports gear for our school!

OPEN DAY, BOOK Fair & PARADE

Our Book Fair ‘GALAXY OF BOOKS’ will be open for viewing and sales on

Wednesday 17th August 8.30am - 2pm so you can visit as a family.

Students will have the opportunity to view the books before the Book Fair . They will take home a “wish list” (& brochure) on Monday and Tuesday with two or three possible titles and their prices. This allows time at home to discuss choices and decide on purchase/s. If making a purchase the wish list MUST BE returned to school on the

Wednesday with correct payment. This is especially important if you are unable to attend but would like your child to purchase a book/s. (Purchase is not compulsory)

Join the fun and help encourage your child’s love of reading. There are credit card facilities available.

You are also invited to donate a book to the library….a bookplate acknowledging the donor will be placed in the front of the donated book. Every sale at the Book Fair will benefit Bexhill School

students. Join us in making our Book Fair a big success!

Thank you for your support. Melinda Hill, Librarian

There will be an auction held later in the evening with great entertainment and food available. Tickets $15 pre sold or $20 at the door. Available at: Coraki Hotel ~ Coraki Take Away

All donations and money raised will be used to help Scott and his young family through a difficult time. If anyone is interested please email us. Warm regards, Michael Grande, on behalf of the fund raising committee.

AUCTION ITEMS If anyone is interested in an auction item and cannot attend, please feel free to email us and arrange a silent bid.

A HUGE thank-you to all the parents who helped out at the Bunning's BBQ last Sunday, it was a very busy and successful day with us clearing $1324!!! Many thanks to those parents who collected and delivered the materials for the day and to those parents who stayed beyond their allocated time slot, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

We also made a profit of $452.80 from our pie drive, thank-you to all those people who supported this fundraiser.

At this weeks meeting it was discussed and decided that we are to go ahead with improvements to the front of the school. These improvements will involve moving the teachers car park across, replacing the existing fence, beautifying the current teachers car park area and altering the drop-off /pick-up system so as to make it safer for your children. We are currently obtaining quotes for the fencing and earthworks to be done so if there is anyone in our school community who can assist with either of these areas please contact the office.

Thank-you to those parents who have offered to send in baking for the canteen, your contribution is greatly appreciated, unfortunately we still only have 4 or 5 parents willing to give up their time to man the canteen and as such the canteen will only operate every second week for the duration of this term. Hopefully we will get a few more parents for Term 4.
