Strong Growth Through Continuous Efforts Across the Group

Mohd Faishal Kassim General Manager Group Business Development

With more than two decades of experience in supply chain management working with multi-national companies such as Reckitt Benckiser, L’Oreal and Nestle, Mohd Faishal Kassim was a Senior Manager of Business Development of Transport Solution at DHL Supply Chain (M) Sdn Bhd before coming on board the Swift Group as Head of Business Development & Solutions last year. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration ma-joring in Transport & Logistics Management from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM). Mohd Faishal started his work in January 2016, currently holds the position of General Manager Group Business Development at Swift Group.

One of our biggest challenge was to penetrate the multinational corporation (MNC) companies especially those in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industries. Initially, they were either unsure or unclear on Swift capabilities. But now the shift is gradual and we are getting more invitation to partic-ipate in the Request for Quotation (RFQ) process. We are scrutinizing all the business pipelines and zooming in on Customer Facing approach to contin-ue promoting and alerting customers on Swift services and ultimately to secure and wins more business. E-commerce is currently the trend and we are working on it. The newly established Group Business Develop-ment team is still at its infancy stage to show any drastic changes. I believe that we should put the Group’s interest first before our personal goals. I promised that our team will be transparent and ready to assist other business units in order to achieve Swift group targets. I adopt my father’s philosophy and practice Islamic concept of ‘ITQAN’ which is to do things sincerely, honestly and focused; to work out of respect is always better than to work out of fear.

“Not many companies hold a programme for drivers and their families such as the Drivers and Families training. I feel more appreciated because we are not simply considered as drivers but as a valuable asset to the company. Before this, I was merely carrying out my task but now I am more aware, alert and serious in my job. I am now more enthusiastic in performing my duties because my family understand my career. Their love and care encouraged me to be more cautious when driving.”

Mohd Redzuan Embong, Intra-plant Driver, Kerteh

"Through this programme, the drivers become closer. Not only that we get to know each other better, we also get to know the families. Besides being able to exchange views and experiences, we can remind each other to perform our duties responsibly and courteously.

Khairul Azizi Hashim, Intra-plant Driver, Kerteh

The Drivers and Family programme was organized in 12 sessions, between Nov 2015 to Oct 2016, involving 250 drivers from all branches together with their wives and children. The one-day programme was organized by Department of Health, Safety, Environment from Kerteh and Kuantan branches and later with the cooperation of Change Management Unit under the Human Resources and Administration Department.

The programme aims to increase awareness on a driver’s responsibilities and risks to his wife and children, fostering the relationship between the management, drivers and their spouse. At the end of the programme the spouse spoke about being more aware of a driver’s occupational hazard and will play their part to help reduce the risk in staying focused on the road.

“It was clearly an unforgettable experience. The preparation includes urine tests, safety equipment that we must have with us on the journey, and detailed briefing on safety precautions such as to be cautious when applying emergency brake to avoid the risk of the cargo dislocating from its harness. “I am used to transporting hazardous material daily but explosives cargo is a completely unnerving. Fear and anxiety alternately affect me. It was the thorough preparation and ample rest that gave me the courage to haul the cargo to its destination.”

Jamsari Sharudin, Haulage Driver Port Klang

“When my husband is napping, I will make sure that our children play in a separate room so that his sleep is not disrupted. Before he leaves for work, I will prepare the working gear so that he will not fluster and lose concentration.”
