INTRODUCTION—To Bournemouth and Poole residents The next time you go to throw something away in your rubbish or recycling bins, or take items to the tip, think again. There may be a group or individual who could make use of it.

Please take a look at the list on pages 4 and 5 and see if the item you are throwing away is on it. If it is, look along to see the page number(s) beside it, as this indicates that it is needed by someone. Then go to that page and make contact to arrange delivery or collection.

Important: Ideas2Action accepts no liability or responsibility in relation to the delivery and/or collection of items. Ideas2Action is only facilitating in the brokerage of reusable items.

Please remember to mention that you saw the needs in this directory.

CAN YOU HELP WITH OTHER ITEMS YOU MAY OCCASIONALLY THROW AWAY? On pages 24-27 there are a few voluntary groups looking for other items you may occasionally throw away. So please have a look to see if you can help with these too.

I’D LIKE TO REGISTER FOR ITEMS. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? As the booklet is updated, it’s never too late to register. So, if you are a member of a group, or simply an individual who can make use of the items in the list, please contact Monique, the project co-ordinator. Phone: 07771 705662 or email [email protected]

***NEW THIS ISSUE*** Welcome: John— who is asking for any rectangular greetings card (except Christmas). Size: 6” x 4” or larger. The cards are trimmed and remounted then sold to make funds for the work of the Church in South Sudan. (Page 24) Annie is looking for full, part-used and empty cosmetics and hand, bath or hair care products (page 23). All proceeds from the sale of the items go to help people in Dorset who have, or who continue to suffer from the effects of Cancer.

ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE We were a finalist in the MRW National Recycling Awards 2016 in the Waste Prevention Award:

Public and Third Category. We were also a winner of a Green Apple Award in 2016. There are now 11 Win on Waste groups running across Bournemouth, Poole, Wimborne and one

based at Livability Holton Lee. Our first We Need That directory contained a list of 55 items and 20 organisations looking for those

items. This issue there are 89 items, 39 organisations and 7 individuals. Even more people are benefitting from unwanted waste.

LOCAL GROUPS WHO ALSO RECYCLE Between pages 27 and 29 you’ll see that we have featured two larger voluntary organisations, Dorset Reclaim and the Dorset Scrapstore. Both need your items, so please read about what they are looking for.

WASTE NOT WANT NOT POOLE The Waste-Not-Want-Not Poole website is a place where you can offer larger items or ask for items to again save them going in the bin or to the tip. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/waste-not-want-not-poole/

RECYCLING IN BOURNEMOUTH AND POOLE If you have any questions about general recycling or waste in Bournemouth and Poole check out the Councils’ websites: http://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/BinsRecycling/RecyclingRecyclingCentres/RecyclingRecyclingCentres.aspx Or for Poole: http://www.boroughofpoole.com/environment/recycling-rubbish-waste/recycling/

SECTION 5 DORSET RECLAIM AND THE DORSET SCRAPSTORE

DORSET RECLAIM Dorset Reclaim is a local charity helping people on lower incomes furnish their homes. From a small start, we now have three depots across Dorset with a team of volunteers and staff ready to help you. Your local depots are at 85 Stanley Road, Springbourne and Didcot Road, Poole. We rely completely on the generous donations from local householders to help other local families. We need a wide selection of items including all types of furniture, large and small electrical items, curtains and crockery to carry out our work—we can even find a home for clothes, bags and shoes. We provide a free collection service to anyone offering good quality items to the project and try to accept anything it takes to make a home. So if you’re suffering from a lack of space, moving to a smaller home, or just having a spring clean, give us a call and help us to help others at the same time. Call us on 01202 773384 (Bournemouth) or 01202 679080 (Poole) or visit our website www.dorsetreclaim.org.uk to find out more.

DORSET SCRAPSTORE

“Inspiring community creativity and saving the planet through crafting!”

Fake limbs and biscuit tins, fabric swatches and cardboard boxes...Dorset Scrapstore wants a world where manufac-turing waste doesn’t go to landfill - it becomes a community resource for craft making and creativity. We collect materials donated by industry and make them available to schools, community groups and families as a low cost resource. Our materials are suitable for use in art, craft, education and play. We help the environment by promoting re-use and recycling, and by reducing the amounts going to landfill. Dorset Scrapstore is a registered charity and a non-profit making company. We operate with the help of three part-time employees and a wonderful set of volunteers. Donated materials are stored in our warehouse at Alder Hills, Poole. Our members come in and fill bin-bags with materials for just £7 per bag. Materials include paper, card, sticky-backed plastic, tubing, plastic bottles, fabric and foam, to name just a few of the things in store. Dorset Scrapstore also runs affordable arts and crafts workshops. These cover a range of activities and focus on skill-learning in a fun and friendly group environment. For a full list of all the items we need please see pages xxxxxxx.

SUITABLE MATERIALS CALL US ON 07565 577094 EMAIL [email protected] RATING SYSTEM IS AS FOLLOWS: 1 – NO GREAT DEMAND – Goes slowly and is not very popular, but we try to keep a small amount in stock. 10 – DESPERATELY IN NEED! – Goes very quickly and we can never satisfy the demand. Ratings are given for colourful things (where appropriate or relevant). Plainer or duller stuff will score slightly less!! General info 1. We are interested in any materials or items that can be used in an art, craft or play context. 2. Materials must be clean and safe 3. The more colourful the better, particularly with regard to paper, fabric and plastics 4. Strange, exotic, and unusual materials are our “grail”! 5. If the scrap is appropriate we can take large quantities and act as distributor to the UK network of 105 scrap-stores 6. If you can deliver – great! If not - we can collect. 7. We do not accept any food containers (even if they have been washed out) or electrical equipment. 8. We can take donations of suitable household items (particularly fabrics) but can only accept them if sorted into different types – we cannot accept large bags of mixed scrap types. 9. This list is incomplete! If you’ve got something that’s not listed here and you think it would be useful, call us.
