“Where Every Child Counts”

‘Tis the Season to be Respectful and Thankful!

“When you practice gracefulness, there is a sense of respect towards others .”

-Dalai Lama

Being respectful will make your middle schooler’s relationships better

at school and at home. Here are ways they can show respect for him/

herself, other people, and the world around them.

Respecting Oneself

Tweens with self-respect are more likely to stick to their values and

say no to risky behaviors. Teach your child to check in with them-

selves before he/she makes a final decision. Say a friend invites them

to a party where parents won’t be home. They could think about what

might go on there and say, “Thanks, but that’s not for me.”

Respecting Others

Explain that showing respect will make it easier for your tween to get

along with adults and peers and help him/her earn their respect, too.

They can do that by treating people as they wish to be treated. For in-

stance, he/she should eat snacks in the kitchen at a friend’s house if

that’s the family’s policy (even if they eat in the living room at your

house). Also, they'll respect classmates by doing what he/she says

they will, such as completing his part of a project they are doing with

a partner.

Respecting the Environment

Encourage your middle grader to adopt the motto, “Leave a place bet-

ter than you found it.” To put that into practice, he/she might throw

away trash that they see in the neighborhood or at a park. Conserving

resources is another way to respect nature. They can turn lights off

when he/she leaves a room and shut water off while brushing his/her

teeth. –Middle Years

If you really want to show your respect to your friends and relatives then say THANKS to them on Thanksgiving!!

All Parents/Guardians are welcome to enjoy an

evening with the teachers and staff of MJH!!!

The “Finer” Things

All 8th grade students will take the PSAT/8 assessment Wednesday, November 6th. The test will begin at 8:15 a.m. and should be completed by 11:15 a.m. Students who arrive late will not be allowed to test. The PSAT/8 is the first test in the SAT Suite of Assessments and is a pressure-free

way for students to start exploring their path to college and a future career. It helps them:

1. Recognize strengths. A personalized online PSAT 8/9 score report will include detailed information about your child’s strengths and areas for

growth. It helps students lean into areas they’re good at and identify places where they need to improve to be ready for college.

2. Explore future careers. Students can explore college majors and careers that align with their personal interests with Roadmap to Careers, a unique online tool created by Roadtrip Nation and the College Board. The tool connects students to potential careers based on the things they love,

showing where they can lead.

3. Choose high school courses. Knowing where they excel and what skills they should work on can help them choose other 9th- and 10th- grade classes. In addition, student score reports will suggest AP® courses that are a great match for them. AP can give your child an edge in the admis-

sion process and allows them to earn college credit while in high school, which could save time and money in college.

Students can access free, personalized PSAT/8 practice test and scoring guide anytime, anywhere at

https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-8-9-practice-test-1.pdf

https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/pdf/psat-8-9-practice-test-1-scoring-guide.pdf

Parents, please ensure your student arrives at school on time Wednesday, as they are not allowed to start the test late. As always, a good night’s rest and healthy breakfast may assist your student in maximizing his/her performance. If you have any questions or need any guidance please contact Mrs. Haney at

[email protected] or call the school at 903-880-1670.

On Nov. 21st MJH will

walk to the HS in the

morning to watch the

delightfully offbeat adap-

tation of the classic Roald

Dahl adventure, the crea-

tive possibilities with

James and the

Giant Peach are endless.

Actors will love playing

the outlandish characters

and performing brand

new material from one of

Broadway's hottest duos.

Admission will be a

$1.00 per student.

There are 5 junior high kids IN THE

SHOW!!! Our very own!!! So this will be

a phenomenal opportunity for parents

& students to see our kids soar!

COME ONE, COME ALL!

Showtime and tickets can be purchased on

the MISD main website. Buy them TODAY!

Cooperation

People that are cooperative

are good listeners, helpful,

friendly, caring, respectful to

others, fair, and patient. You

can teach cooperation at

home by allowing your child

to help you complete a task

(i.e. making dinner, going

grocery shopping, raking the

leaves, etc.) Modeling

cooperation by participat-

ing in a charity project (i.e.

community cleanup day,

donating to a food drive,

collecting funds for an

organization, etc.) Remem-

ber, cooperation is working

together to complete a task.

Cooperation is listening to

others. Cooperation is

helping your friends and

family. Cooperation is

interacting together nicely.

Worth Quoting: “It’s not what we say about our blessings but

how we use them, is the true measure of our Thanks-giving”

It is now time to order an 8th

grade Tribute ad in the 2020 edition of

the MJH yearbook. Our deadline has been moved up due to the

amount of space remaining in our book. The new deadline to order

an ad is January 17, 2020. You can pick up an order form in the

front office. Parents and grandparents may design an ad them-

selves or have our staff do it for you. For those interested the

same options are available online at www.yearbookforever.com. If

you have questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Manning at

903-880-1670, ext. 7200. We also have a limited number of yearbooks

still available to reserve. You may make down payments on these
