Monroe Swap Meet – Fall Edition A few of us went down south to the Monroe Swap Meet in Monroe Oct 7th. The rains held off and for the most part we walked around hunting for treasure with jackets open. I guess if you prepare for the bad weather, fate gets even for all your prep work by not raining. The swap meet was only at about 75% as there were lots of open spaces in and out of buildings. The car corral was almost bone dry and there was only about a dozen or so cars for sale. Some years, a late 40’s Ford is the most popular or we get a half dozen old camaro’s. This year it seems it was the 49 / 50 torpedo back Chev that got the popular vote. I think there was four or five of them on site. We made a new contact for our trophies at the show. It seems they can beat any price we have been getting by at least 25%. This is a good thing.
The Monroe Scones are a tradition, how many were consumed is a tough guarded secret. Dave & Les are seen here checking out a rare bustle back Chev. ( a sort of Vicky body style )
A quick stop by the lake, and then back to Doug’s Dewdney Pub for an awesome lunch. Not many cruising day left and the brine trucks are loaded and awaiting first frost…
Turkey Run – Langley to Harrison & Back to Dwedney…. Sunday, ten of us made the leisurely cruise to Harrison Hot Springs via the Annual Turkey run. In total, 51 cars started the tour from Colossus theatres in Langley and rambled along Lougheed Highway. It was a perfect day, sun was out and traffic was minimal for the most part. Only sad news was Glen & Susan had a mishap on the Golden Ears Bridge. No one was hurt other than the Caddy suffering a rear fender boo boo.
Bradner stats & other useless information ….
Below is a breakdown of auto attendance at our run last September. The numbers paint the picture of our
hobby. Total numbers used in the pole was 321 as one sheet of registration has gone astray. None of our
club cars are included in these numbers.
Ford - 135 GM – 142 Chrysler – 22 Other – 22 = 321 cars
(1920’s & 1930’s cars - 93) (1940’s - 36) (1950’s - 68) (1960’s - 65) (1970’s – 34) (1980’s & up – 25)
(Pre 1949 - 118) (Pre 1971 - 150) (1972 & Up – 53) = 321 cars (approx $4815 entrance fee)
Of the 47 cars 1972 & up – Fourteen were 1990 & newer …. ($210.00 entrance fee)
Of the 14 1990 & newer – Seven were newer than 2000 …. ($105.00 entrance fee)
Of the 7 newer than 2000 – two were brand new …. ($30.00 entrance fee)
Of the two brand new, both were Polaris Slingshot motorcycles – time to buy a sandbox and draw a line in
the sand !!!!

Christmas @ Bradner Hall December 3rd 2017
We are going to Brander this year on December 3rd. We are working on a Christmas
buffet similar to what we’ve done the last few years. The Gift Exchange will be back once
again as it always seems to be the hit of the evening. For those who haven’t attended one
of our Xmas parties … each attendee bring one gift, Ladies bring a Ladies gift and the
guys bring one for the guys. The gifts need to be clearly marked Ladies or Men’s as they
are placed under the Christmas tree. Then numbers are called and the option to take a
gift from under the tree or one from another person begins. Sometimes the gift you know
is better than the gift you don’t … the game is a lot of fun as some gifts change hands two
or three times before they are considered done. We set a $20.00 limit on the gift so get out
and look for the best pricing sale you can find. The better the gift, the more swapping
action it gets…. Sound confused… we’ll clear it up at the party. I know you’ll catch on
real quick. Please let me know if you are coming to the party so I can forward dinner
numbers to the cook. Pricing as follows, the club is picking up the rest of all costs, the rest
is up to us. Single ticket $20.00 Couples $40.00
Sometimes a crew cab works, sometimes it doesn’t … what do you think ?
The secret to building kool cars is doing lots of homework. Here is Ron in Ontario
checking out some fine handy work…
This is a neat piece of old drag racing… and only $20.00 . I bet when most racers saw this blow up picture, they went out and made their own version…..
Winter activities Castle Fun Park has two indoor mini golf courses for us to continue our club tournaments.
Consider it practise for next June. For $20.00 each, you get two games of indoor golf, and a ticket on one of the super attractions like the Bumper cars, Bowling or Batting cages. If we
book as a group, we need twenty people to get these group rates. They will reserve us tables in the Tiki Room for refreshments afterwards.
Alder Alley – offers two hours of bowling for up to 30 people ( extras are $10 each ) for a
group price of $250.00 for limited times. For $399.00 we can book our own two hour time slot ( $15.00 per person ). There is a pub across the street to add lubrication to the joints
before and after such an event. This alley is a 5 pin lane so the balls are not as heavy.
Fast Track Go-karts – Langley – this location has indoor cart racing at its finest. Prices start at $24.00 per race ( 8 minutes of racing ) and go to $41.00 for two races. They have an adult
party package where each person pays $50.00 , gets two races, use of a party room & a slice of pizza chips & a drink.

Humor ….
“What are Mixed Feelings” – when you see your mother-in-law backing off a cliff in our new car!
“Definition of Ironic” – I work to buy a car to go to work?
“Solutions?” – The best way to get back on your feet is to miss a couple car payments.
“Healty?” Subway is the healthiest fast food, cause they are the only ones that make you get out of your car.
“Guilty?” Isn’t it weird how when a cop drives by we feel paranoid instead of protected!
“Advise” When everything is coming your way, you are in the wrong lane.
“Courtesy” If you allow someone to pull in front of you in a parking lot, they will most definitely get the last
parking spot
“Math” 80% of all drivers considers themselves to be above average.
“Really”It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, but only one nut to scatter it all over the road.
The best safety device in a car is a rear-view mirror with a policeman in it.
It's time for a new car if you can leave your car parked, unlocked, with the keys in the ignition, and not worry
about it being stolen.
My low-fuel light was on, so I stopped and got $10 worth of gas. Unfortunately, my low-fuel light was still on.
A pedestrian is someone who thought there were a couple of gallons left in the tank.
Fridge Clean out @ Faye & Lorne Embree’s
Lorne had the club over for pizza and a small social last Friday. Weather all day was great and we had over a dozen cars show up at the Farm. It is nice to still be able to get together on these small runs as the cool damp weather is just around the corner. The Lemon’s & Gray’s both brought their Roadsters and down jackets ( kidding ) to
help keep warm in the way home. We got another chance to see Lorne’s collection and ask questions about each vehicle as we walked around. A big thank you to Faye &
Lorne for hosting and supplying the pizza. Another big thank you to Fran who treated everyone to a variety of desserts.
