NOVEMBER NEWS FOR THE PARENTS OF KINDERING CHILDREN

BABY STEPS Have you wished you could meet other parents of infants/toddlers with special needs? Have you wondered where you could take your baby to experience socialization, play, and also have adult contact? Would you like new play ideas and songs? If you answered yes to any of the questions, then Baby Steps may be for you!

Baby Steps is a parent/infant class that focuses on connection, play, support, and building relationships. In this class, the joys and challenges of raising a child with special needs will be shared, celebrated, and supported. Baby Steps is the first of many beginnings.

If interested, contact your family resource coordinator for more information.

SIBSHOPS

If your child with special needs has a 6-11 year old typically developing brother or sister, Sibshops is a great opportunity for siblings to connect and share their experiences. Visit https://kindering.org/services/familysupport/sibshops/ to learn more and register or email

[email protected] .

FATHERS NETWORK Join the Fathers Network mailing list to get monthly information about articles, workshops, conferences, classes and events. This is information about the community in general, not just about the Fathers Network. And, anyone, not just dads, is welcome to be on the mailing list.

APRIL FAMILY NEWSLETTER

Hello! My name is Kate Wilhite Brickell and I am a new CHERISH Social Worker here at Kindering. I grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii and then traveled to Washington State to obtain my degree in Psychology from the University of Washington. After receiving my Bachelor's degree, I worked in

impatient settings with youth ages 5-18. Throughout this work, I became passionate about advancing my skill set to support these families. As such, I returned to the University of Washington to pursue my Master's in Social Work. During my Master's program, I worked with infants, pregnant people, parents, and families. After graduating with my Master's Degree, I have worked with prenatally substance exposed infants and their families in a medical setting. In my free time I love to camp, kayak, paddleboard, and spend time with friends and family.

WELCOME NEW STAFF

Hi! My name is Tobey Close (they/them pronouns) and I am a new occupational therapist here at Kindering. I grew up in San Diego and then received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Rochester in New York. After I graduated I spent 2 years in the Peace Corps in

Jordan teaching special education, then moved to Seattle, where I worked at Childhaven as a therapeutic teacher for children experiencing abuse and neglect. I stayed in Seattle for my graduate degree and recently completed my Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University of Washington. In my free time I enjoy playing the guitar and ukulele, hiking, camping, biking, reading, and spending time with family, friends, and my delightful cat, Fitzgerald. I’m very excited to join the Kindering team and look forward to meeting you all!

Hello! My name is Ting Hsiao. I am very excited to join Kindering as a BCBA and Early Childhood Special Educator. I am originally from Taiwan and moved to the States in 2002. I received my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Special Education at University of Illinois in 2005 before

becoming a mom. I took a career break staying at home for my kids, running a home business, and volunteering for children with autism in the community. As my children grow older, I decided to pursue my passion and become a BCBA. In Spring 2017, I completed my BCBA coursework and practicum at University of Washington and started working as a behavior technician serving young children with autism. It is amazing that I am able to work at Kindering where I used to volunteer. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, hiking, playing piano and watercolors. I look forward to meeting and learning with you all.
