Vol. 16-17, No. 3 November 7, 2016 Dear Bain Families, It’s hard to believe that we have completed a full quarter of the 2016- 2017 school year! As we enter into the 2 nd quarter, I want to encourage you to continue to be involved in your child’s education. If you haven’t already scheduled a time to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their progress, please do so as soon as possible. Our school goal is to reach 100% of our families through conferences. At Bain, we realize that clear communication as well as strong partnerships with all of our families is a proven factor in ensuring our students’ success. I also want to thank all of our Bain families that supported our school’s “Bain Elementary Fun Run” Fundraising Campaign through the partnership of our PTA and Boosterthon. The theme of this year’s fundraising program was “Backyard Box Office!” Our students were able to participate in daily team huddles learning about character lessons from students from around the world and how they have made a positive impact in their communities. Our two week program ended with our very successful Bain Elementary Fun Run! Thank you to all of our parents and volunteers that came out to cheer on our Bobcats! To date we have collected over 95% of money pledged, reaching over $35,000 for our school. This money will be used to purchase materials to support personalized learning in all of our classrooms! If you haven’t had a chance to look at the construction of our Outdoor Learning Center, I encourage you to come by and watch it’s progress. You can also access pictures on our Bain PTA Facebook page. We look forward to using it in the upcoming months. Thank you for supporting our school and our efforts to enhance our Bobcat’s learning experiences here at Bain! Dear Bain Families,

It’s hard to believe that we have completed a full quarter of the 2016-2017 school year! As we enter into the 2nd quarter, I want to encourage you to continue to be involved in your child’s education.

A Message from our School Nurse

Why Kids Need Breakfast

Breakfast, it is the easiest thing to skip during the morning

rush to get to school on time. Sometimes children don’t feel

like eating in the morning, but it’s important that they do.

Breakfast kick-starts your metabolism, gives you the energy

you need to get things done and helps you focus at school.

Not only do their growing bodies and brains need the of the

day. Kids who don’t eat in the a.m. have a nutrients and fuel,

kids who skip breakfast tend to eat more junk food during

the day, which can lead to obesity. Those are just a few

reasons why it’s the most important meal harder time

focusing, and become more tired in school. They may also be

cranky or restless. And it isn’t just their moods that can

suffer. Their school work can, too. One study showed that

kids who ate breakfast had higher test scores than those who

didn’t. According to the American Dietetic Association, kids

that eat breakfast perform better in the classroom and on

the playground, having better concentration, problem

solving skills, and eye-hand coordination.

To ease that morning rush, The Bobcat Café at Bain serves

breakfast every morning from 7:45-8:15. Selections include

hot and cold items, such as muffins, fresh fruits, granola,

yogurt, french toast and breakfast pizza! Even if you think

there isn’t time to eat breakfast, there are grab and go

options too. The best part, it’s FREE to all students!!

Bain Ambassador Community Service Project

Bain’s Safety Patrol and Ambassadors are working together

on a community service project with Philadelphia Presbyterian

Church to collect much needed supplies to help the homeless.

The church opens their facilities to provide shelter and food

for homeless people during the winter months. We want to

help them build up their collection of supplies. Here is what

we need:

XXL Men’s Underwear

Medium and Large Men’s T-Shirts

Women’s Socks (White)

Deodorant

Warm Men’s Gloves

Travel size tooth brushes and toothpaste

Napkins

Sandwich bags

Supplies can be sent in to your child’s homeroom teacher

beginning now through Nov. 18th. The supplies will be

delivered to Philadelphia Presbyterian prior to the

Thanksgiving Break. Thank you for your support!

It's Square 1 Art time!!

In Autumn

I see apples, foxes and falling leaves

I hear crunchy leaves, wind and wolves

I smell pumpkin pie, turkey and corn dogs

I taste chicken, cider and apples

I touch coats, blankets and books
