Greetings from the WHL

A Welcome from the President

Welcome back to another exciting year of Kootenay ICE Hockey. With the way the Hockey Club finished last year the 2013-2014 season has the potential to be very special. Mirrored in last place at Christmas, the Club posted the fifth best record in the WHL in the second half of the season and made the playoffs for a 15th straight year, while finishing with a .500 or better record for a 14th consecutive season (which are both the longest active streaks in the WHL).

Our organization has been very fortunate since moving to Cranbrook to enjoy an unparalleled amount of on ice success. This year for the first time in franchise history one of our players has the potential to be the first overall selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. With that comes added pressure to perform, but with reigning WHL Coach of the Year, Ryan McGill leading our team, Sam Reinhart and the rest of the players will receive the necessary guidance and leadership in achieving all of their goals.

With the invaluable experience our team gained last season, we expect our returning players along with our new prospects to once again battle for contention in the very competitive Eastern Conference. Our expectations of success both on and off the ice will not change. Our fans have come to expect a team that is hard working on the ice and ambassadors for Cranbrook and the entire East Kootenay region off the ice.

On behalf of the entire organization, welcome back and I hope you enjoy the game.

Jeff Chynoweth, President & Governor
