Dear Parents/Guardians,

We look forward to seeing you next week for Parent Conferences. The report cards will be available online in RenWeb on Wednesday, November 15th in the afternoon. You will not be receiving a paper copy, therefore you may want to print one for yourself and bring it with you to conferences.

The students will be gathering on Wednesday, November 22nd for an Academic Assembly after our 9:15 school mass. At this time, we will recognize the students who received Principal List, First Honors and Second Honors as well as those who were Students of the Month and House Point winners for September and October. Parents are welcome to attend.

Thank you for all that you do to support our school!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Patricia Mancuso Principal

November 7, 2017 Dear Parents/Guardians, Good communication between teachers and parents is the hallmark of a quality education. For this reason, we have set aside time for formal conferences. We do this yearly. We have found the open scheduling of conferences successful. The open schedule consists of: Report Cards for grades 1-8 available on-line Wednesday, November 15th. Kindergarten students will receive a progress report, which will be sent home. Conference times are as follows:

- Wednesday, November 15th …… 6:00 P.M. to 8:30 P.M.

- Thursday, November 16th……… 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.

- Friday, November 17th………….8:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Please enter the building through the 2nd grade and 8th grade doors. No other doors will be open for entrance. We will close Wednesday evening conferences at 8:30 P.M. exactly. We have found later conference times not productive.

A form was sent home and was in the on line Weekly Communication asking you

to indicate which time frame works best for your schedule. If you have not returned that form, please fill it out and return it to the teacher as soon as possible. See next page for the form. Teachers will be available to meet in the order that you arrive. No teacher will schedule a specific time for any parent.

We have used this schedule for the past few years and the atmosphere of the

conference time was less pressured, enabling parents to meet with their choice of teachers at the time that was most convenient to their schedule, not just the homeroom teacher. We look forward to seeing everyone during one of these time periods.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Patricia Mancuso Principal

October 17, 2017 Dear Parents/Guardians, The faculty will soon be preparing for Parent/Teacher Conferences. For your convenience, we will be holding conferences the evening of Wednesday, November 15th from 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm, Thursday, November 16th from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm and Friday, November 17th from 8:30 until 11:30 am. Report cards will be available on-line in RenWeb on Tuesday, November 14th. As you are aware, our upper grade classes are departmentalized and your child may have more than one teacher. Quite often many of our parents also want to meet with more than the homeroom teacher. In order to allow our parents to meet with each teacher, we will not schedule set appointment times for any grade level, Kindergarten-8th. Each teacher will be in their classroom and will be happy to meet with any of our parents. All conferences will be limited to 5-10 minutes. If additional time is required, the teacher will set aside a future date and time for you. We are hoping that this way of handling conferences will provide you with the opportunity to see each of your child’s teachers if necessary. For our planning, please complete the form below indicating whether you plan to come on the evening of November 15th, the day on November 16th or the morning of November 17th. Please return this form as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you and hope that this will give you the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with each of his/her teachers. Please note there is NO SCHOOL on Thursday, November 16th and Friday, November 17th. Sincerely, Mrs. Mancuso ………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Lifetouch will be here Thursday, November 9th to take Individual Pictures of the students. Students may wear appropriate casual clothing or their school uniform. If they are scheduled to have gym class that day they should wear “picture clothes” and not their gym uniform.

Please be sure to fill out the Lifetouch picture forms that were sent home last week in communication folders and send them in with your child(ren) on picture day. Thank you!!

Dear Parents/Guardians:

You are cordially invited to hear our children sing, play and act in two Christmas performances!

On Wednesday evening, December 6, 2017 at 7 PM in Assumption Hall our Kindergarten, First, Second and Third grade students along with our Band will present the annual Christmas Concert. Our program this year features sacred carols as well as fun loving “standards” of the Holiday Season. What better way to find the true spirit of Christmas than through the beautiful voices and instrumental playing of our children? Students who are performing in the concert are asked to wear their finest Christmas Dress clothes and arrive no later than 6:45PM so we can line up for the performance.

The second program will be the Christmas play presented by our Performing Arts Club students on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 also at 7 PM.

Since the Concert involves the talents of so many children, it is important for us to know if you and your child will be able to join us. Kindly respond by completing and signing the form below on or before Wednesday, November 29, 2017. Completed forms should be returned to your child’s homeroom teacher.

We look forward to sharing our children’s’ beautiful music with you. It is a great way to de-stress during a very hectic time of year!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Barbara Brophy

November 7, 2017 To: ALL NEW Altar Servers We will be having 1 Final Session with all our “NEW” & Existing Altar Servers on Monday, November 20th at 6pm in the Church. This is for ALL that are unable to attend on Wednesday, November 15th session. During this time, we will tell you a little about ourselves and go over what is expected of you as an Altar Server. You will learn how to serve properly during Mass and you will receive an “Instruction Guide and agreement page” as well as learn the proper names of the items used during a Mass. You will learn where items are kept in the Sacristy and where you are to “vest” (get your alb on & place your personal items during Mass ie: jacket, etc). All Albs are to be on their HANGERS when you are finished at the end of Mass. Keep the Sacristy clean and neat for the next Mass (Priest, Deacons, Altar Servers, Lectors and Eucharistic Ministers) so they can prepare themselves without cleaning up from previous Mass. Once our practice sessions are complete, I will have Loren start to schedule you for serving in our weekly Masses. If you have any preferences of Masses, please let Loren know so she can put it in the system and get you scheduled for Mass times you request. We have our Ministry Schedule on the internet - it’s called Ministry Scheduler Pro. Loren will put your information in from your contact sheets and you will receive an email with your USER Name and a temporary password for you to change. You will be able to put in your preferences of Mass times, have the ability to request certain dates to serve and request a sub-replacement and fill in for someone else. You will get an email reminder of your upcoming Mass schedule too. If you do have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know that day or feel free to contact me (Deacon Jim or Loren) at the Parish Office 629-6142 x13 (Deacon Jim) or x19 (Loren) or stop by and see me. If you feel you would like additional training, I can add additional dates for everyone – just to make you more comfortable on the Altar serving at Mass. May God bless you, Deacon Jim Hallman

SMS Celebrates Thanksgiving

Every November, we celebrate a special Thanksgiving Luncheon for our students. This year our celebration date is Wednesday, November 15th. We also ask individual grades to contribute to this meal by bringing in a specific item. The memo with this information is on the next page. We are grateful for your contribution of food, time and help to prepare, serve, etc.

SMS also joins our parish community in donating non-perishable food to contribute to the Thanksgiving Dinner of families in need. Your contributions could include stuffing, soup, cranberry sauce, pasta, pasta sauce, gravy, boxed potatoes, boxed desserts, canned vegetables and canned yams. This food will be kept in the classrooms and gathered on November 17th. Please be sure to check expiration dates on these foods.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!

The SMS Ministry of Student Leadership is selling “Turkey Feathers”. These feathers will be sold in the classrooms and cost $.25 cents each or 5 for $1.00. They will be glued to a turkey that will be placed on the door of each classroom. The money will be used to purchase food for the Thanksgiving Food Drive.

At SMS we have a

GRATITUDE ATTITUDE! Dear Parents/Guardians: In an effort to reinforce the true spirit of Thanksgiving and to reenact the first Thanksgiving, we are asking that each child contribute to the dinner in a small way. We have planned a menu that we feel the children will enjoy and celebrate as a school family. This special luncheon will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 15th. This day will be a “Spirit Day” for grades K-7. Students in grades K–7 may wear spirit wear with jeans or sweatpants. The day promises to be truly a joyous occasion. We ask that each child contribute to the feast in the following manner: Please bring into school by Friday, November 10th, the following (except cupcakes and rolls which will be brought in on Wednesday, November 15th) and please label these donations as “school luncheon” so they do not get mixed in with the other food donations. K1 and K2 … We ask that each child contribute twelve (12) cupcakes each.

Please bring the cupcakes in on Wednesday morning, November 15th. 1A and 1B … We ask each child to bring in one (1) 12 oz. canister of Flexible Stove Top Stuffing Mix (Chicken Flavor only). 2A and 2B … We ask each child to bring in a dozen (12) dinner rolls (already cooked) Please bring the rolls in on Wednesday morning, November 15th.

3A … We ask each child to bring in one (1) can of Jellied Cranberry Sauce. 3B … We ask each child to bring in one (1) jar of applesauce. 4A and 4B … We ask each child to bring in one (1) large box of Hungry Jack Instant

Mashed Potatoes. 5A and 5B …We ask each child to bring in three (3) cans of turkey gravy.

6A and 6B … We ask each child to bring in four (4) cans of corn - no cream corn, please. 7A and 7B … We ask each child to bring in one (1) pound of butter. 8A and 8B … We ask each child to bring in (2) packs (16 at least) of Thanksgiving napkins. We thank you in advance for your generosity in making this special luncheon truly “spirited” for your children. Sincerely,

Mrs. Patricia Mancuso Principal

We can be sure that we love God’s children when we love God and do what He has commanded. 1 John 5:2 The Office of Child and Youth Protection is announcing CAP (Child Assault Prevention) sessions. CAP is the safe environment training program for adults who have regular contact with minors. Attendance is required in order to comply with the USCCB’s Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People. The policy of the Diocese of Camden is that adults will attend CAP once every five years. CAP 1 teaches attendees to recognize child abuse and neglect and how to report to the proper authorities. Adults are taught that children have the right to be safe, strong and free. CAP 1 is for new volunteers and employees. CAP 2 is called CAP’s Bullying Prevention Program and is a workshop addressing bullying awareness and bullying prevention. Cyber-bullying is also presented. CAP 3 is called Cyber-Empowerment and is a workshop which promotes adults understanding of cyber activity of youth while teaching them realistic ways to help children keep their own rights and guard the rights of others in the cyber-sphere. Each presentation is 90 minutes. Adults who are new employees or volunteers should attend CAP 1 before attending CAP 2 or CAP 3. After five years, adults have the option of attending CAP 1, 2 or 3 when they renew their CAP. The following sessions will be offered in November 2017: CAP Phase 1
