THIS WEEK HEALTH SERVICES ALLIANCE PRESENTATION WITH MIKE KIVOV, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2PM – AUDITORIUM: What will Collington’s health care look like five years from now? Collington commissioned a study to help guide the architects who will design the upgrade of our health and fitness facilities. This study (sometimes called the Bed-Mix Study) looked at the factors affecting us: our competitors in the area, the demographics of the population from which our residents come, and the trends in health and life care nation-wide. The study is done, and its author, Mike Kivov, shared its conclusions and findings with the Health Services Alliance in mid-October. The information was so interesting that we want to share it with everyone. Mike has agreed to come present to all residents in the Auditorium at 2PM on Monday, November 5. Don’t miss this chance to learn about the data that will guide our Collington improvement projects. MONDAY NIGHT MOVIE: “The Catcher Was A Spy,” 2018, R, (1HR 34MIN) MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 7PM - AUDITORIUM: In this fact-based World War II thriller, Boston Red Sox catcher Moe Berg follows a mediocre baseball career with a heroic stint in military intelligence when he's tasked with stopping the Nazis' efforts to build an atomic bomb. ITEMS OF INTEREST We CAN make a difference! LED bulbs use fewer watts to make more light. LED bulbs are available at supermarkets, online, etc.

EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DRIVE: Many residents are inquiring about how much to give to show our appreciation for our staff. This of course depends on personal circumstances. What can be shared is the results of the 2017 drive. Last year you generously gave $258,000 to provide individual checks to 250 staff who care for us. Also, please remember there may be tax advantages for your generosity. The Residents Association is a 501.c3, a non-profit organization. You can also consider using part of your required minimum distribution (RMD) from your IRA or retirement plan account. You can avoid paying tax on that portion of your RMD if you have the check made out to Collington Residents Association for the EAF. Contact the custodian of your IRA or look up Required Minimum Distribution on the IRS website (irs.gov) for more information.

TREE OF LIFE VICTIMS: Please remember the victims of the Tree of Life synagogue in your thoughts and prayers. Please know that this horrible attack has raised many fearful, sad and painful remembrances in people at Collington who have experienced such hatred, terror, and discrimination. Acknowledging your horror and sadness of this event would give them comfort and courage. Thank you. Joan Zorza, on behalf of Collington’s Jewish Community SAVE THE DATE: Wednesday, November 14 there will be a meeting for District 2000s. ATTENTION, COLLINGTON RESIDENT VETERANS OF ALL NATIONS: Prior to the 2018 annual Collington Veterans Day Commemoration, we try to ensure that all Veterans are honored. Please follow these steps on a computer: VETERANS LIST ON RESIDENT ASSOCIATION WEB PAGE AT http://www.collingtonresidents.org Click on Resources – Resident Directory Veterans on left side of page, under Resources PASSWORD: collington - all lower case Please check to see if your name is on the page. If not on list, please contact John Geron to add your name: [email protected] List your name, military branch, dates of service and country. Repeating: the directory is password protected like all directories. MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR THE OO GLASS CASES: We need several more apartment residents to become members of the OO Glass Cases (GC) Committee. Living in the apartments makes it easier to respond to the many calls we receive from people interested in seeing and hopefully buying something from the 2nd floor GC (by the Billiards Room) or the 3rd floor GC (in the Creighton Center by the Residents Association Office). As one of these volunteers, your name and telephone extension will be listed on the index cards displayed the GC. You will be oriented to the GC sales process.

Thank You!

Many, many kudos to the ad hoc Halloween Committee who once again performed magic at Collington. This “treat” was presented under the leadership of Pat Howard, Helen Lauck, and Nancy Brown and many, many other volunteers. Forty plus children and their families enjoyed games, sweets, and the haunted house. The parade of costumes was the highlight of the day. Halloween was a huge success for children and adults!!!! And, many thanks to Joan Hoff, who has graciously accepted the position of RA office manager. Correction - Operating Committees - note change in date for marketing
