All Women Are Welcome!

Love Lives On Those we love remain with us

for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade

because a loved one's gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart,

for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.

So many hearts are hurting today thinking of a lost loved one…

I pray God will help each and every one to find a way to keep sweet memories alive, to heal their broken hearts and keep them open to face another day because life will move on and the sun will shine again.

HOPE APPEAL UPDATE

As we honor our dead this week-end at Mass ---and throughout the month of November in our daily prayers----below are some quotes to aid in our reflection.

Death is not the opposite of life, but a part of it. Haruki Murakami

Our dead are never dead to us, until we have forgotten them. George Eliot He who is not busy being born is busy dying. Bob Dylan

Tell your friend that in his death, a part of you dies and goes with him. Wherever he goes, you also go. He will not be alone. Jiddu Krishnamurti It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. The act of dying is not of importance, it lasts so short a time. Samuel Johnson Death commences too early – almost before you’re half-acquainted with life – you meet the other. Tennessee Williams

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. Washington Irving

Neither fire nor wind, birth nor death can erase our good deeds. Buddha

They say you die twice. One time when you stop breathing and a second time, a bit later on, when somebody says your name for the last time. Banksy Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes. Because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation. Rumi

Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time… It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other. Leo Buscaglia

We must become familiar with the thought of death if we want to grow into really good people. We need not think of it every day or every hour. But when the path of life leads us to some vantage point where the scene around us fades away and we contemplate the distant view to the end, let us not close our eyes. Let us pause for a moment, look at the distant view, and then carry on. (continued in next column)

A preliminary note of thanks Last weekend saw much activity in the parish. Along with wedding, funerals, and baptism we had a couple of special events. Thanks to everyone who helped with the 2nd grade Mass and gathering afterwards. Thanks to Fr. David for being such a good sport during the homily. (I might take some archery lessons before we do that again). Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to give us another very successful Harvest Fest. The many donations of food and beverages helped us immensely. The kitchen crew lost an average of 10 lbs working in that heat. Congrats to the “Flu Shot” Scarecrow winner. ( a very popular choice among our younger attendees!). We will have a more detailed thank you note in next week’s bulletin. Thank you to all who helped us to achieve our Hope Appeal. Now that is behind us, I invite people who did not get around to supporting that annual assessment; we are looking to pay off the siding on the parish center. (See the “barometer” on the next page). Also, STOP giving to the Hope Appeal until next year….we only get 50% of the overage back. The 4:30pm Mass this weekend will be streamed and available for watching on YouTube. God Bless us through November,

Peter

Thinking about death in this way produces love for life. When we are familiar with death, we accept each week, each day, as a gift. Only if we are able thus to accept life-bit by bit-does it become precious. - Albert Schweitzer

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION “As we enter heaven, we will see them, so many of them coming toward us and thanking us. We will

ask who they are and they will say, ‘A poor soul you prayed for in Purgatory.”

-Ven. Fulton J. Sheen We pray this month for all the faithful departed, those dear to us, those with a special connection to our parish and those most forgotten. We pray for one another, seeking Christ to be our consolation, particularly in His Eucharistic Presence. May we, like they, some day behold The Beatific Vision.

All are welcome!

It’s not too late! In case you’re still thinking about learning more about the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) at Saint Joseph’s, it’s not too late to call the parish office and ask for a team member to contact you. Yes, we’ve been meet-ing for a couple of weeks now, but there is still plenty of time to jump right in and get caught up. Who is the RCIA for? —RCIA at Saint Joseph’s is for anyone considering Catholicism as a way of life who wishes to explore the tenets of the faith to inform their decision. It is for those who have never been baptized and are seeking information on becoming a Catholic Christian. —It is also for those who are baptized and have joined us from another Christian tradition but have little knowledge and experience of what it means to be a Catholic Christian. The Catholic Church respects your Christian upbringing and the faith experiences that are part of your life. Becom-ing Catholic does not mean rejecting your previous faith background. You can now live it out in the Catholic Church. —Are you the parent of a child who is in formation for the Sacraments of the Eucharist or Confirmation who would like to complete these sacraments yourself? RCIA is the path to get there. Got life questions? RCIA at Saint Joseph’s is also for baptized Catholics who have received the Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation who, perhaps, would like to journey with someone as a sponsor or godparent. If you are interested or want a little more information, please contact: St. Joseph’s parish office at 315-488-8490. St. Joseph’s RCIA team: Deacon Rich Camaione, Joshua Corcoran, Tim Kissane, Allison Palermo-Record, Dale Record and Kelly Wilcox

Mourner’s Kaddish (English Translation) Glorified and sanctified be God’s great name throughout the world which He has created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom in your lifetime and during

your days, and within the life of the entire House of Israel, speedily and soon; and say, Amen. May his great name be blessed forever and to all eternity. Blessed and praised, glorified and exalted, extolled and honored, adored and lauded be the name of the Holy One, blessed be He, beyond all the blessings and hymns, praises and consolations that are ever spoken in the world; and say, Amen. May there be abundant peace from heaven, and life, for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. He who creates peace in His celestial heights, may He create peace for us and for all Israel; and say, Amen. From Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America

(Having read the translation of the Kaddish Prayer, one should realize that, although Jewish Law requires that the Kaddish be recited during the first 11 months following the death of a loved one by prescribed mourners, and on each anniversary of the death (the “Yahrtzeit”), and by custom in the State of Israel by all Jews on the Tenth of Tevet (“Yom KaKaddish HaKlai”), there is no reference, no word even, about death in the prayer.)

LEFT-OVER HALLOWEEN CANDY Halloween is this week and you may not want that left over candy and calories in your home. So, a good place to put your extra candy would be in the bins here at church, which are given to a college student who is studying for finals or a service person who deserves some good snacks for the holidays! As always, at the end of November we will be filling Care Packages for our college and service parish-ioners. We will have “labelled bins” at the 4 doors of the church the next couple of weekends. Please mark your extra bags of candy “Candy for Care Packages!” and place them in the bins. We will make sure they get put to good use! Please watch the bulletin in the next couple of weeks as we will be asking for donations to fill the care packages with other items as well. Thanks again for always supporting this great program.
