St. Anne's - 1st Sunday of Advent - Nov. 29, 20115 ADVENT, 2015 - The Year celebrating God's Mercy Advent has a twofold nature: It prepares us for Christmas, when we recall Christ's first coming among us, and it is also a time when we look forward to his second coming at the end of the ages. Advent is a season of joyful expectation. 1st Reading: Jeremiah 33:14-16. The prophet says that a time will come when God will be true to his promise. The Son of David (that is, The Messiah) will stand among his people. His reign will be marked by wisdom, justice and integrity. 2nd Reading: 1 Thess. 3:12-4:2. Paul prays that the Lord may deepen the love the Thessalonians have for each other, a love that will then reach out to all people. Thus they will be ready for the second coming of Christ. Gospel Luke 21: 25-28, 34-36. In language borrowed from the Old Testament Luke describes the final coming of Christ. Christians should not fear this. Rather, they should look forward to it and prepare for it through prayer and right living. GOSPEL CHALLENGE: To Open the Door, to let in new light and hope in a world of global anguish and cynicism. In Jeremiah's time, things looked grim for his people - the glory days of old were over. And our parish? Advent is not about what was or is, it is about what can be, not by our doing, but that what Jesus can do today. It is a time to let His grace stir within, to clear away some of the debris, some clutter, some behaviours and sins that obstruct the way, so we can find new ways to express community, to show faith and to strengthen the bonds of family friends and faith. -- First Friday Devotions: Dec. 4, 1 am -- Devine Mercy Devotions - every Sunday at 3:00 pm WEEKEND PARISH MINISTRY SCHEDULE Dec., 5, Sat., Reader - Louis Pelletier Cup: Leanne Pervais & Lucy Day Dec., 6 Sun., -Readers -1.
