Christmas Craft & Bake Sale Thursday December 3
We are planning our Annual Craft & Bake Sale! THE SALE IS FOR STUDENTS ONLY!! It is a chance for
students to buy inexpensive, personal gifts for their family and friends. We are asking for donations of delicious
baked goods, small treasures and gift items. Parent contributions are needed for this special event to run.
Please send donations of small inexpensive items OR monetary donations to the school by Wed. Nov. 25.
The committee needs time to see if additional items are required, and to sort and price everything.
Please send items for the following category if possible:
Kindergarten—adult female gifts
Grade 1—adult male gifts
Grade 2—boy gifts (age 0-8)
Grade 3—girl gifts (age 0-8)
Grade 4—adult female gifts
Grade 5—adult male gifts
Grade 5/6—boy gifts (age 8-teen)
Grade 6—girl gifts (age 8-teen)
On the day of the sale, Dec. 3, please send a labeled envelope with the student’s name, purchasing money inside,
along with a list of who they should buy for. Most items are 50¢ to $2 so please plan with this in mind. Students
will get to purchase 2 items at first. If there are items remaining, they will have opportunity to purchase
more. Care Partners and/or parents will help purchase with younger students. Some classes wrap their gifts also.
Please wrap NUT-FREE baking items individually and place in the staff room the day before, Dec. 2. Proceeds go
to the SCC which supports school programs and initiatives. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please

A Message from Prairie Spirit: Bus Cancellation Notices
We are now heading into winter mode and of course we have to be aware of what will happen with the school bus when the weather turns nasty on us. Please keep this information in a handy location for future reference.
Severe Weather and Bus Cancellations (Rural bus routes)
Bus cancellation announcements:
Bus Drivers will call rural students to inform them of bus cancellations.
All Prairie Spirit School Division bus cancellations are prominently posted on the Prairie Spirit website
(www.spiritsd.ca/Buses) by 7:00 a.m. each school day. Please keep in mind that you will need to refresh your
computer in order to ensure you are able to see the most current updates to the website.
Prairie Spirit has a bus hotline: 306-683-2805 that will list bus cancellations every day.
The following radio stations will also make sporadic announcements of bus cancellations in our school division: The
Bull 92.9 and C95 (FM) and CKOM 650 and 600 CJWW (AM).
Policy
Buses in Prairie Spirit School Division will not run if the combined temperature and wind chill factors result in a reading of - 40 degrees or below at 6:00 a.m. (as reported by Environment Canada at www.weatheroffice.gc.ca). Note: Saskatoon temperatures are used as a guide for all schools in our school division, except schools in Duck Lake, Blaine Lake and Leask, which use Prince Albert temperatures.
In stormy conditions, bus drivers will use their discretion to determine whether or not to run. Buses are not to operate if weather conditions such as freezing rain, dense fog, heavy rain or severe dust storms impair visibility or otherwise cause dangerous travel conditions. Bus drivers are to decide whether or not to run by no later than 30 minutes before the first scheduled morning pick up, and by no later than one hour prior to the scheduled afternoon dismissal. Buses that do not run at the regular time in the morning due to weather conditions are not to run at all on that same day.
Even if the buses are not running, parents are welcome to transport their children to school. School is closed to students only for reasons such as health and safety.
The complete Severe Weather policy (AP 805) can be found under Administrative Policies and Procedures at
http://www.spiritsd.ca/schoolboard/policies.asp
CMT’S “TORNADO HUNTERS” VISITS OUR SCHOOL!!
A tornado hunter named Ricky Forbes came to the Grade
5 classroom on Monday, November 2 at DES. He talked
to us about his career as a tornado hunter and he showed
us a video of what he does when he is not tornado hunting.
He likes to do a whole bunch of daring stuff, such as
skiing, biking, snow-boarding and more. He works with
two other guys named Chris Chitick and Greg Johnson.
Ricky showed us a video of when he was in a tornado. He
just dodged a farm truck that flew out of the sky and a
hail storm that cracked his windows. Also, he told us
about the different types of tornados and what type of
clouds make them. He showed us his cool orange and black truck name Flash. Flash is also bullet proof
and has lots of lights. Usually when Ricky and his crewmates are tornado hunting, they are gone half a
year.
I hope you enjoyed our write-up. Thanks for reading.

LATEST NEWS FROM DES...
WOW! We have had a great year so far! We had our Remembrance Day Service on November 5th. It was a good time for us to remember the soldiers that fought for us, so that we could have freedom. Also, our Grade 4’s and 5’s went to the high school and sang at the Legion Tea on November 4th. Something else very exciting has happened; Ricky Forbes, a Tornado Hunter came to our school to see the Grade 5’s! Plus, he brought their special truck they use for hunting tornados! He showed them some clips of different kinds of clouds. Ricky gave them posters and they got to take a picture with him. It was a great experience.
We are going to have another Hot Meal on November 25th. The Kindergarteners have decided we will have PJ and Teddy Bear Dress-up. For the meal we will have quesadillas. Also on Tuesday, November 27th our Progress Reports are coming home. The last thing we have this month is the Fluoride Program, it starts on the 30th and goes all week. On December 3rd we have our Christmas Craft and Bake Sale.
This month we decided to interview our Kindergarteners. We asked them three questions, and they answered well. One question was: What is something really fun you have done in school so far? They said playing and building stuff. The second question was: What is something that is a challenge for you? They said running, math, reading, waiting their turn and waiting in general. They are working on these things though, and will practice; they will soon have it down. The last one was: What is your favorite thing you’ve done this year? They said learning, making leaf men and playing with all the toys. The Kindergarten Class is very excited to learn!

Fluoride Varnish – Follow-Up Visit to Delisle Elementary School
Dear Parents and School Staff, The Population and Public Health – Oral Health Team will be returning to your school and offering the fol-
low-up free fluoride varnish to students. It is recommended that fluoride varnish be applied to your child’s
teeth two times per year. We plan on being at your school on Nov. 30-Dec. 4th, 2015. If your child had fluoride varnish earlier this year, great! There is no need to sign up again. If you did not
enroll the first time but are interested in participating, please contact the Oral Health Program at 306-655-

Skating
As part of the physical education curriculum for all grade levels, on Thursday’s throughout the winter, Delisle Elementary
students are scheduled to skate at the Delisle Centennial Arena. We will leave the school at 12:30 and return at 1:45. In
recognition of the Sports Safety Policy, each student is required to wear a CSA approved helmet. Students are requested to
bring their skates in the morning so that phone calls home are avoided. Those who do not participate in skating will be
supervised at school as they read or complete other work.
Students in Division II (Gr. 4-6) will be walking to and from the rink. Students in Division 1 (K-3) will be bussed to and from
the rink. Please ensure they are dressed appropriately and that skates and helmets are in a proper carrying bag. Parents are
needed to help with tying skates. Please join us at the rink those days. The schedule is as follows:
