OUR VISION
Living up to our heritage of reaching each new generation for Christ.
OUR MISSION
To Put Jesus F.I.R.S.T. In Our Lives, Our Church, and Our Community.
NOVEMBER 2019
Happy November, friends! Wow – it is hard to believe that the season of All Saints, Veteran Appreciation, and Thanksgiving is here! We have a grand month of “thanks-living” ahead and I look forward to sharing this month with you!
One of the things I am thankful for is the mission work of Greystone United Methodist Church. As God’s Church, we fulfill the Great Commission beautifully. What is the Great Commission? It is the empowerment that Jesus gave to His Disciples post-Resurrection, pre-Ascension with these words: “I have been given all authority in Heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age,” (Matthew 28).
Through our monthly local missions, support of the United
Methodist Committee on Relief (U.M.C.O.R.), Conference Mission trips and more, we take the Word “go” to heart … and for that, I am grateful.
This month, I am spotlighting the work of “Go International.” Our very own Kenny Pitts is planning his thirteenth trip with this International Group and I would like for us, as God’s Church, to support his passion and ministry. Just a few weeks ago, I asked Kenny, “Kenny, why do you do this?” to which he responded, “I like to go and serve somebody else whether it be here or ‘to the ends of the earth.’ I like to go and help people where there is poverty everywhere, every day.” What a beautiful testimony and opportunity for us to support Kenny as he makes plans to serve in Tarapoto, Peru, February 13-22, 2020. The cost of his trip is $1635.00 plus Airfare, so any amount of support is greatly appreciated.
Our November Communion-Rail Offering will go to assist this trip for Kenny in fulfilling the Great Commission “across the street and around the world on a construction project, children’s ministry, evangelism, and medical outreach” trip.
God bless you, Kenny for your passion for Missions here and beyond. We are so thankful for you! Blessings, Pastor Teresa

In November …

Veteran’s Day Prayer Greystone United Methodist Church encourages us all to please say a special
prayer of appreciation for our United States Veterans this month in their honor on Veteran’s Day.
Most gracious and loving Lord, we remember today all those
who have served to protect our United States of America. We
commend them to you for their bravery, their patriotism, and
their honor. Grant that those who serve today may be kept in
your everlasting love and protection. Give comfort and
encouragement to their families.
We pray for the day when there will be peace on earth and the
kingdoms of this world will have become the kingdoms of our
Christ. Hasten that day, O God, and help us to live in that hope.
Unite us with your spirit of love and forgiveness, in order that
we may understand the nature of Christ’s kingdom. And Father,
we pray today for our enemies in this world, that they may be
converted to Christ’s will for the nations and join us in a better
world community. Let your holy will prevail among all people,
and your name be exalted forever. In Jesus name, Amen.

Welcome, Boone Wayne Nolin
The Greystone UMC Church Family is so excited to
welcome Boone Wayne Nolin into our Family of
Faith! Boone was born on Wednesday night, October
2nd, at approximately 11:30 p.m. At birth, he weighed
8 lbs., 4 oz. and was 21 inches long. Boone, Mommy,
Daddy and brothers are all doing well! We thank our
Heavenly Father for this tremendous miracle and
blessing! Please keep the Nolin family in your
continued prayers of praise and thanksgiving!

Celebrate!—Tables of Blessings
Anytime family and friends gather around a table
for food and fellowship, it’s a blessed time from
God, especially so when it’s a special holiday or
celebration. “Tables of Blessings” will be an event
hosted by B.A.S.I.C. Women’s Ministry on
November 13th 5:15 p.m., celebrating all those
special holidays. Our entire church family and
friends are invited. You may be seated at a
Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving or one
of many other tables, all decorated with the
splendor of that celebration.
An awesome Italian meal is being planned with a
smorgasbord of holiday deserts. There will also be entertainment to follow. Tickets will be $10.00
and will go on sale soon. Tickets may be purchased from any lady hosting a table, or from the
church office. All proceeds from this event will be used for our next women’s retreat and mission
trip.
We still have tables available, if you are interested in choosing a table to host. We would love to
have you join the fun! Please contact Charm Russler to choose a table to host, or to ask questions.
Plan now to join your church family and invite friends to gather around a table to celebrate God’s
blessings.
On behalf of the
“Wags & Whiskers”
ministry, I would like to
take this opportunity to
say a huge thank you
for the incredible
response to our August
Animal Shelter
Campaign.
The amount of items donated was amazing as
well as over $170. The shelter staff was
overwhelmed with your generosity and was so
grateful for the much needed items.
The needs at the shelter are numerous, and I
pray we can continue to be a part of helping care
for these wonderful creations of God! Again,
than you so much!

Greystone UMC Children & Youth News What a blessing is was to watch our youth and children as they presented the skit for
Youth Day last month! I may be prejudiced, but I believe these are some of the most
talented young people around.
God is using our young people in a mighty way through the Stick Ministry and through our
monthly mission work at The Harbor Church. We have been told that the congregation at
The Harbor look forward to the first Wednesday of each month. Every time I go there I
realize how blessed I am and how much more I could do to help those in need.
It is Operation Christmas Child time again and we will once again be filling shoe boxes. The
boxes will be available for pick up during the morning worship service on November 3 and 10
and must be returned to the church no later than Wednesday, November 20. We also
have an opportunity for a team of 8 people to work at the Operation Christmas Child
Processing Center in Atlanta. We will leave the church Saturday December 21 at 6:30 a.m.
and will return around 10:00 p.m. Youth will sign up first and we will fill the remaining
slots with adults.
I just want to say what an honor and pleasure it is to work with your youth and to serve
along with Pastor Teresa and the rest of the Greystone staff. Thank you all for allowing
me this opportunity.
Youth, don’t forget our regularly scheduled activities:
Sunday School at 9:00 a.m. with Mrs. Patti Walker.
Wednesday Night Stick Ministry practice.
Sunday Night Bible Study for youth and children.
God bless our November!
Mike

SERVE MINISTRY People Want Their Lives to Matter and Make a Difference
Yes, it’s that time of year…
A time for giving and sharing the joy of Christmas with family and friends and those less fortunate.
Our friends in the SpectraCare Adult Group homes, our Cheerful Hearts, will have special needs this
Christmas and the winter season.
For the past several years you (our Greystone Family) have graciously adopted each of the participants
in the Cheerful Hearts ministry. We have learned over the years that because of their ages, many do not
have family to provide gifts; others do not receive gifts for other reasons. For most of the group home
members the Greystone Christmas gifts are the only gifts they will receive.
On Nov. 17th our Cheerful Hearts Angel tree, complete with the names and two or three items from a
wish list we requested, will be set up in the common area at the front door.
Please join in the joy of selecting someone from our tree to provide a few gifts for Christmas morning.
Make sure your name is listed on our master list by one of our Angel Tree host or hostesses.
The unwrapped gifts need to be brought to the church by Dec. 4th at which time we will have a gift
wrapping party in lieu of Wednesday study. Be sure to label EACH GIFT with the Cheerful Heart
participant’s name so we can check off that all have been provided for in this holiday season.
On Wed. Dec. 11th we will host a fabulously joyful Christmas party and banquet for them, and YES, YOU
ARE INVITED!
If you plan to attend it is important to sign up as for a Wed. night supper. The banquet style meal, $4 per
person, will be served at a beautifully decorated table.
Thank you for your generous and compassionate support in this ministry.

THANKS MINISTRY God Inhabits the Praises of His People
Thar's Gold In Them Thar Hills
Sitting in a waiting room waiting for my car to be serviced, there is a show on TV about mining for gold. True to reality TV, there is a lot of drama and what seems to be insurmountable issues that crop up throughout the episode, so determining fact from fiction is a bit difficult. However, what is easy to see is that there is a lot of time, money, effort, and work that has to go into the opportunity to hit "pay dirt." Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment is needed for the job. Some of the equipment is new, some is pretty old and there is a discussion as to will it hold up for the five weeks of work they have ahead of them. They know the potential for rewards is worth the risk so they start digging....cue commercial.
Before reality TV, Jesus shared a parable with his followers that sounds a bit similar to this episode. In Matthew 13:14, Jesus describes it this way, "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field," (ESV). If there were camera crews around at that time, it may have played out very much like a reality show episode. Can't you see it now: (dramatic music playing) a man discovers a treasure in a field. He begins selling everything he owns, much to the dismay of his family and friends. (cut away to friend being interviewed), "I always knew he was a bit crazy," (cut away to his parents), "where did we do wrong?" Now we see the man talking with the owner of the field, who cannot believe that anyone would want that piece of property. After all, it's not worth anything. (slow motion scene) Man is seen throwing the contents of the treasure into the air and in a state of elation as he knows what he has bought...cue commercial.
The point is that in both scenarios above, they were willing to go to extreme lengths for the thing that was of utmost value to them. As Christians we should be so longing for the kingdom of heaven that we are doing whatever we can to obtain that treasure...even if there are no cameras rolling.
Music Announcements:
Don't forget, if you want to share your favorite song with us for Greystone: Songs of our Faith, just let me know!
Choir Practice will be on each Wednesday night in November.
Two Special Wednesday-night 'Prayers and Praise' Services on November 6th and November 20th, 6:00 p.m.
Making a joyful noise, Chris
