It’s hard to believe that October has passed so quickly. We are now into November which is the beginning of the Holiday Season and there are going to be a lot of activities going on at the Lodge.

I’m very happy to announce that we are bringing back the Christmas Party for the children and grandchildren of our Lodge Members. This will be for children, ages 12 and under. Please sign up on the sheet posted on the bulletin board.

Thanksgiving will be upon us shortly and we will do our annual

baskets to be distributed to the needy.

November is also a month to remember our Veterans who served our Country.

I wanted to give a special thank you to George Greenland, his commit-tee volunteers and to Keenan’s for helping to make our 31st Annual Elks Haunted Halloween House a huge success. The children enjoyed it immensely.

Always remember “ Elks Care-Elks Share”. Thank you and God Bless.

Fraternally,

Tim Mackey

Veterans Committee

The Hood Murphy Memorial Golf outing was held Friday, October 4. We had a record turnout of 153 golfers, and had to turn away late registering golfers. Weather was great, the hosting, and service, at the Lodge was great. Once again, the Veterans committee did a great job with the laborious tasks, and serving our guests. The entire event was something to make us all proud and we set a new net profit record. Most of the new sponsor banners are up. Late banners will be up by this Monday. Thank you sponsors and golfers. Your donations and support allow us to meet the many needs of our tri state veterans.

The annual Veterans Christmas party will be held at the Lodge on Thursday, December 19. Veterans from the Vineland Home, and several Cape May County nursing homes, and assisted living facilities, have been invited. We expect a large turnout this year.

We plan to do our annual Christmas shopping for Veterans again this year. Our committee members have identified unmet needs of many Cape May County Veterans and they will be included in this year’s purchasing. Historically, all of our Christmas gifts have gone to the Vineland Veterans Home, while local Veterans in nursing homes and assisted living facilities have not received anything. Our committee will request an increase in our shopping budget this year to include these local Veterans.

Our committee is also identifying local Veterans that are in need of Thanksgiving dinner staples.

Special thanks to Ed Ochmanski for obtaining two burial flags requested by a local nursing home.

We have started to work on Thanksgiving baskets and the Angel Tree. We need volunteers, especially men, for Nov. 24 th at 9:30 am to fill food baskets.

The tags will be on the Angel Tree by the end of the month. Please take one and make a child happy. The gifts must be returned by Dec. 17th.

A contribution was made to the Cape Christian Academy.

The Elks is supporting Middle Township High School’s Navy National Defense Credit Corp Instruction. It’s similar to JROTC but is funded by the school not funded by the Navy.

As always we are helping “Pinch the Grinch” make Christmas special for many local children.

Well, it has finally begun! The expansion project has started, as you can see when you drive by the Lodge. We are asking everyone to be patient and we will keep any inconvenience to a minimum during the project. This project will be a stupendous asset to the Lodge. When, or if, there is a need to close the Lodge, we will keep the members advised.

Please be observant and use caution when near any construction area. Stay away from any areas that are roped off or have caution tape. We don’t want anyone to get injured.

The House Committee will be hosting a Salute to Our Lodge Veterans on November 11, 2019 from 12 Noon to 3:00 pm. A buffet and discounted drinks will be available to our Veterans. Please note this is NOT an open house.

We will be discontinuing our Thursday Comfort dinners after the Christmas Holiday and they will return in the Spring.

Please be courteous to our bartenders and waitresses, they are here to provide a service and they are not to be disrespected in any way.

Let the Holidays Begin !!

The 31st annual Elks Halloween Haunted House was held on October 26th. Because we moved the event to Keenan's outside patio this year, this ended up being the biggest haunted house we have ever had. Our traditional candy apples were given out to the first three hundred kids. It was estimated six to seven hundred people went through the haunted house. Thirty two people participated in the staffing of this year’s haunted house. Thanks to all those who supported and volunteered in making this the best haunted house to date. Special thanks to Keenan's for allowing us to use their property for the event.

The annual Elks Hoop Shoot Program was held on November 2nd at The North Wildwood Recreation Center. All participants were issued a certificate of participation and trophies were given out to the first three winners in each category. All the first place winners will now move on to represent The Greater Wildwood Elks Lodge in the south district competition which will be held at Atlantic Cape Community College in December.

A donation has been made to Boardwalk Basketball Classic which will be held in Wildwood over the Christmas Holidays. We have been a proud sponsor of this event for many years which is recognized as one of the biggest high school basketball tournaments on the east coast.

A donation has been made to Wildwood Catholic High School to sponsor their annual high school play. This year’s Broadway musical is Little Women which debuts in late November.

Our annual Christmas Holiday Window Decorating Contest is scheduled for the end of November at the Wildwood Convention Center. The top two art students, from each of the four grade schools on the island, will be competing against each other for the top window decorations. Prizes are given out to the top three winners along with a donation of $100.00 to each schools’ Art Program. Feel free to walk the boardwalk and pick out your favorite decorated window in front of Wildwood Convention Hall.

The expansion project has started.

The sprinkler system is at 40% complete.

Demo has started to move the shed and beer box.

Dumpster is on site.

The fence to secure the construction site perimeter should be in place the week of 11/11/19.

The temporary wall should be installed on 11/12/19.

We may have to flip-flop the entrance, a few times, during construction. This will be necessary to keep the Lodge and Social Quarters open.

We will try to give weekly updates.
