Garden Spot By Shirley B.
Winter doesn’t have to shut your garden down, even if you live in a cold climate.
A window box filled with hardy plants can brighten the dreary view until Spring.
For best results, plant your window box before the coldest weather arrives, so your
plants have time to get established. Avoid choosing anything tall or wide enough to
block your view. When you visit a garden or nursery, read the tags before you buy
to make sure they’re hardy enough to survive during Spring. Since plants in
window boxes are more exposed than plants growing in the ground, look for plants
rated 1 or 2 hardiness zones colder than the zone you live in. You must protect
plants from harsh sunlight and drying out.
Pre-Winter Clean up
1. Clean the insides of the pots thoroughly by scrubbing them with a solution of 1
part bleach (preferably non-chlorine) to 10 parts water. Once the empty pots are
completely dry, they are ready for storage.
2. Store all pots indoors even if they are made from materials that can withstand
the elements.
3. All plants should be brought indoors until next Spring.
Happy Gardening!
How Did Clubhouse of Lehigh County Get Its Name?
Dubbs Church was housing the Clubhouse temporarily, so just as a temporary name used
“Clubhouse of Lehigh County.” The Tri Council had a meeting on establishing a permanent home. The
Tri Council disbanded, and Good Shepherd located a new home and became the auspice parent. Once the
new location was ready, Good Shepherd needed the name of the clubhouse for signage, marketing, etc. A
committee was formed and all-new potential names were shared. The committee voted for Clubhouse of
Lehigh County. Steph mentioned to the group that there are all these wonderful possibilities for a new
name and a new start. The committee once again voted for Clubhouse of Lehigh County. So they went
back to Good Shepherd to say that the new name would be Clubhouse of Lehigh County.

mind and soul into
even your smallest
acts. This is the
secret of success.”

Horoscope November 2017
November 2017 Scorpio Horoscope foretells that the southern half of the horoscope is stronger
this month. Your priority is for having a happy home life and a strong emotional quotient. Career
is on the back burner for the Scorpios. You should use this lean period to make career plans for
the future and devise ways to achieve them when planets are favorable. In November 2017 plane-
tary power exists in the Eastern half of the chart for the Scorpio zodiac. Your autonomy and will-
power are very robust and you can dictate your terms to the world. If things are not happening as
per your plans, you can just change them to suit your requirements. There is no need for social
grace or adaptability.
The Sagittarius November 2017 monthly horoscope forecasts that if you suddenly have the urge
on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd to sidle on up to the stranger at the bus stop and ask them what they make of
this crazy thing called ‘life,’ well, why not? Ditto if you want to strike up a conversation with the
person making your latte or the cutie from corporate. After all, what law of the universe says you
actually have to know someone before you get to talk to them? By the 9th and 10th, you could
already be seeing some beautiful friendships or important new insights being generated from this
fearlessness on your part. Yay! That is pretty terrific, you know. Sagittarius get into the groove on
the 16th and 17th. Which groove? Why, whatever groove you find grooviest. Your desire for jus-
tice could really come to the fore on the 21st and 22nd of November 2017. Let it. You’re in for
some pretty solid accomplishments, not to mention a whole lot of love and maybe even some ro-
mance, on the super great 25th and 26th. Communicate to your heart’s content on the 29th and
30th. It’ll really do you good to get all those ideas off your chest. And who knows? You might
make a new friend.
UNIT NEWS AND UPDATES
3H (Holistic, Health, Hospitality):
The 3H Unit had a fantastic hot dog sale on
Saturday October 7th. The weather was perfect and
we had 20 members who volunteered to help. We
served hot dogs or pastelillos, a bag of chips and a
drink for $2.00. We brought in $284.90 and after
expenses, our total raised was $234.90. That is an
amazing result for our first hot dog sale! Thank
you everyone who participated and bought our hot
dogs. This will become an annual event, or we may
even have it twice a year.
Our baking class continues every Friday at 1:45.
Every week members are learning how to make
something different. Some of our creations have
included cupcakes, brownies, cookies, cheesecake,
and grilled cheese sandwiches.
Front desk training will be starting in November.
Training sessions will be held every Tuesday at
1:30. Any members interested in becoming
certified on the front desk should sign up for one of
the time slots. After training is completed, only
members who have been certified will be allowed
to work the front desk. Training will be ongoing so
that all members are eligible to work at the front.
No one can fail: we will train until everyone feels
comfortable doing all aspects of the desk.
Everyone is welcome.

BTU (Business Technology
Unit):
The BTU will be going
through a transition as we will be adding
to, and taking away, some of our existing
WOD duties due to the creation of a new
unit. We would encourage our unit
members to assist us in creating new
WOD duties. We would love to hear from
you about new and interesting ways to
expand and revitalize our unit. We have a
new library committee that has been
working diligently to update the policy
and procedures of the library. They are
also looking for new donations for the
library to update what books and DVDs
can be checked out. Please think about
bringing in your magazines that you have
read or any other media that you don’t use
anymore. Come and join in all of the
events!

Sports Column By Chris W
Since Martin is an avid follower of local high school, college and pro sports teams, Chris interviewed him for the newsletter to get some of his observations and predictions for the current football season. Martin follows Bethlehem Catholic High School football. He goes to all the games. Bethlehem Catholic is 6-1 so far in the season. Their only loss so far was to Parkland. Bethlehem Catholic are a 4A school in football. They are hoping to go far in the state playoffs. Martin thinks the team will go 8-3 for the year. Martin thinks the Eagles will lose to Carolina. They are probably going to go 11-5 for the season. Martin thinks the Eagles will probably win the NFC East. Martin thinks Penn State can beat Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. Martin thinks they will go 10-2 for the season.

CLUBHOUSE OF LEHIGH COUNTY/WELLSPRINGS CLUBHOUSE OCEAN CITY NEW JERSEY TRIP
Our day began at 7:30am in the Clubhouse parking lot on a calm September morning. While we waited our turn to
board the charter bus, you could see beautiful clouds in the sky, feel the warmth of the rays on your face from the shining sun,
and a gentle breeze against your cheeks. During our departure from the Clubhouse, ready to begin our journey to the
Wellspring Clubhouse to pick up our friends, you could hear the excitement of the members in their conversations, laughter
and the plans being made for the arrival at Ocean City. We arrived at Wellspring, immediately we were greeted by smiling
faces, new faces and very familiar faces. We all had one thing in common, that was the love for the beach and the ocean.
Upon our arrival at Ocean City everyone was impatient to exit the bus and get to the boardwalk. Once on the
boardwalk, those familiar with the location were already on a mission. That mission was to buy souvenirs, get to the water
and/or eat at some of the finest eateries on the boardwalk . I had the opportunity for pointers being passed on to me such as
where to go to get the best pizza, salt water taffy and the best seat on the beach. While sitting on the beach, you could feel the
sun hitting your body, the breeze against your face, the sand between your toes, sounds of people laughing, the sounds of sea
gulls flying above and the sound of the waves in your ears. It was definitely a breathtaking sight.
The Ocean City trip was so enjoyed by both members and staff. The activities ranged from shopping, eating, walking,
sightseeing, swimming, sitting on the beach, and enjoying some good ole-fashioned conversations.
We look forward to our trip next year with our new and old friends.

Arts Fest By Jolene B
If you’re looking for a unique experience
close to home, you don’t want to miss out on
Arts Fest in the Fall. This year’s event was
held September 29-October 1st at Cedar
Beach Park in Allentown. A variety of
artwork was showcased featuring handmade
jewelry, homemade bath soaps, original
paintings and more. Some of my favorite
activities were the “Create your own” graffiti
walls and the DJ station. My family also
enjoyed the treats, specifically Cajun
jambalaya and homemade soft pretzels.
How much fuel do you need to get to Mars?
Let’s take a look at a recent mission: The Mangalyaan
(“Mars Orbiter” in Hindi). Launched in 2013, it cost $72
million dollars. About $700,000 of that was fuel - 200
tons of it (about half of what the Space Shuttle needed).
How does that relate to you and me? Well, let’s do some
math. The release of energy in gasoline and jet fuel
(rocket fuel is really just jet fuel with an oxidizer) is
actually pretty similar, it is just the rate of release that
makes it a tad more explosive for our lift-off needs. We
know that the average car holds an average of 17 gallons
of gasoline. So if we add it up, our 200 tons of gasoline
is the equivalent of about 4000 cars’ worth of gas. So the
next time you see a 14-mile-long traffic jam, just
remember, those cars could be fueling a trip to Mars (in
fuel weight equivalence of course).
