She was 18 th her freshman year, 14 th her sophomore year, 12 th her junior year, and as a senior this year she took 11 th place at State Finals. Annie Laurenz was 22 nd at this year’s finals and is another tough competitor who will return next year to help lead her team. Congratulations!! They set a goal last summer at cross country camp, and it was to have seven runners under 20 minutes for a 5k. They had their top eight 19:28 or faster. Their goals were met and exceeded expectations for the season and this team is going to be very good in the future. A couple of 8 th graders will join this young team next year and as a team they are already making plans for a great year of training, setting team and personal goals. It will be an even more exciting season next year for our guys as they continue to improve. Congratulations! Breckenridge Middle School Girls Team: This is a very young team as well. The team consisted of three 6 th graders, one 7 th grader, and two 8 th graders and they all worked well together. The girls worked hard all season to capture two of three MSAC meets and ran small in numbers but always big in heart. More numbers are expected next year and they are going to be a good team as they continue to work. Megan Goward led her team this year and posted very impressive times. Great job girls! Breckenridge Middle School Boys Team: This team is very young also and to say it was certainly special would be an understatement as this group posted very impressive results. They brought home the Shepherd Blue Jay Invite overall trophy, took the run- ner up trophy in the small school division at the Delta College and Alma College Invites and were named MSAC champions. This team finished 42nd best in the whole state. These boys stepped up when it counted the most and they all definitely made a name for themselves. This team had the best middle school runner in the state of Mason Sumner. He led in the 2 mile/3200m distances by nearly 6 seconds. They are a team that every- one already knows and will know in the future. Congratulations!

Students of the Month

October 2017

Middle School—6th grade - The 6th grade Student of the Month is Mauricio

Acevedo. Mauricio has displayed characteristics of what we hope to see in a 6th grader. He has been

especially helpful during Directed Study after his work is finished offering his help to get other stu-

dents organized, assist them with homework, and do any odd jobs that his teacher needs. We are

proud of how he has started his year at Breckenridge Middle School. He is nomi-

nated by the 6th grade teachers.

7th grade—Madison is a very sweet girl who is always kind and respectful to

both her teachers and her classmates. She works hard in class and gets very good

grades. We are proud to have her here at Breckenridge Middle School. Madison

was nominated by Mrs. Wolfgang.

8th grade - Jace Horman was nominated as 8th grade student of the month by Mrs. Willman. Jace is a very mature and responsible young man who is al-ways willing to help out. He has a wonderful sense of humor and he adds a lot of personality to our class.

High School Tyler Story is the High School Student of the Month, he is a great student leader,

taking on Homecoming and all the activities associated with it and doing a

great job. He was the MC of the homecoming assembly, had a part in planning

the assembly and was around all week showing his school spirit. We are proud

to have Tyler Story as a student at BHS.

Recently FFA students traveled to the 90th National FFA Convention in Indian-

apolis, Indiana. In the group picture from right to left is Garrett Sigafoose, Alex

Cutting, Alexa Aldrich, Gabby Stoneman, Mrs. Katie Eisenberger, Olivia

Ostrander, Janel Laubscher, Sarah Laurenz, Abby Grundas and Ky Eastman.

Lots of fun and exciting things happening

in and out of the FFA classroom

We recently just brought down our 7th grade agri-science and Zoology students to

experience the State FFA Boiler contest with having just raised chickens in the

school barn.

The greenhouse project is coming along quickly. The construction crew is

hard at work everyday with the construction of our new greenhouse. We're

very thankful our students will have a new facility to experience and learn

more about growing flowers.

Walmart and WMLM team up to acknowledge a student from Gratiot

County each week. Sydney Mayle was the student for September, Tyler

Story was selected for October and Haley Willman for November, all

were chosen for their involvement around the school. They are members

of NHS, Student Council and athletic teams. They do all those activities

and manage to keep their grades at a high level. We are proud to have

each of these students represent Breckenridge High School.
