Last month, we paid tribute to those in our Fraternity who had passed away
either recently or sometime ago.
Today we focus on those in Formation. Susan Pivec, our Formation Director, will
introduce three of her Inquirers in Formation and report on how they are already
cultivating ‘Franciscanism’ by going from Gospel to Life and Life to Gospel. We will hear
from them in their own words about ministries they have embraced even before they
reach the stage of Profession.
The Inquirers are Judy Born, Susan Hyppio, and Betsy West.
Among the ministries to which they are committed are: jail ministry, Pinellas
Hope, Pinellas Safe Harbor, and the Franciscan Library at St Mary Our Lady of Grace.
They will detail their own words what attracted them to these various ministries
and to our Fraternity.
Aside from these hardworking Inquirers, there is another group in the early
stages of Formation.
They are: Elena Kelly, Barbara Patenaude, and Joan Grayson
They are under the tutelage of Maria Halloran, former Treasurer and Vice Minis-
ter of our Fraternity, who is very well equipped to lead these folks in their pursuit of
Profession in our Fraternity. Maria works under the overall direction of Susan Pivec.
Please pay attention to the presentation of our Inquirers. Also pray for all six of
our new people in Formation as well as for Susan Pivec and Maria Halloran, who are lead-
ing them confidently towards eventual profession in our St Anthony of Padua Fraternity,
OFS.

Jesus and Francis
by Jim Prior OFS
Jesus and Francis, God and God-like
Lovers of the poor. Humble, yet strong
They both loved Christmas
Christmas, Jesus’ birthday
Francis saw that it was celebrated well
He even began the use of the crèche
Jesus was in the original crèche, in Bethlehem
Jesus and Francis, looked for ways to help.
To heal where possible
To serve others and not to count the cost
To listen and not brag
Jesus and Francis, united in their prayers and in
their wounds.
The all powerful Son of God and His friend, Francis
A Prayer of Thanksgiving
We are gathered here as Your family, Oh Lord.
As a Family of faith and love,
We give You thanks.
As Your guests at the table of life,
we are grateful that You have set a place for us.
As Your children,
we strive to follow You in all we do.
As servants to Your will,
we acknowledge the gift of Your understanding and mercy.
As your stewards,
we are filled with wonder in the presence of Your mighty
deeds and accept our responsibilities in Your service.
As Your heirs,
we are humbled by the bounty You have given us,
for each beat of out heart and each breath that we draw,
is ours only through Your grace.
And, as Your family,
we shout Your name and give You all glory and honor,
praise and thanks.
Amen.
.
Our Pope and all priests, that God protects them.
Our country that the violence stops .
That the people of this country accept God again.
All our first responders and our military.
All those affected by the wildfires and earthquakes.
All unborn children and persecuted Christians
All our fraternity members and their families
All fraternity members who are sick or who are taking
care of the sick.
Our newly appointed president elect, that he is the leader
that this country needs.

Let the Lord speak to you, as He did to Francis, “Rebuild
My house, because as you can see, it is falling into ruin.”
Prayer for our Country
By Rabbi Naomi Levy
Help us, God, to unite our great country
In the wake of a contentious election season.
Teach us to listen to one another,
To heal and to hope.
The days that lie before us are ours to shape.
Let them be days of repair,
Days when we join together
To build a new future.
For some of us the results of this election were a deep
blow,
For some of us those same results were a cause for
celebration.
Our charge today must be to rise above all conflict,
To rise above our differences,
And welcome in a new time of understanding.
Bless us God, with ears to hear,
Hearts to love,
And hands to reach across party lines,
So that we can ensure liberty for all,
Dignity for all.
Land of opportunity and dreams
May we protect your majestic landscape,
And may we treasure the freedom that is our birthright.
Teach us, God, to pledge our allegiance
To every soul in need
And every child praying for a better tomorrow.
Bless America, God,
With peace, with prosperity,
and with
justice for all.
Amen
Liturgical Prayer of the Secular Franciscan
Article 8 of the Rule of the Secular Franciscan Order
states:
“As Jesus was the true worshipper of the Father, so let
prayer and contemplation be the soul of all they are and
do.”
“Let them participate in the sacramental life of the
Church, above all the Eucharist. Let them join in liturgical
prayer in one of the forms proposed by the Church, reliv-
ing the mysteries of the life of Christ.”
Following the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Holy
Mass, we take up the requirement to pray with and for
the Church in one of the forms proposed which may be
fulfilled in one of the following ways:
1. Praying Morning and Evening Prayer from the Liturgy
of the Hours (Divine Office) privately or with others.
(This is the preferred prayer at fraternity meetings.)
2. Praying a shortened form of the Liturgy of the Hours
in one of the various styles available today.
3. Praying the ‘Little Office of the Blessed Virgin”.
(Unfortunately, this form is not available in a revised
format responds with the Divine Office.)
4. Praying the “Office of the Passion” authored by Fran-
cis of Assisi, and found in the various collections of
the writings of St Francis.
5. Raying the ‘Office of the Twelve Our Fathers”, which
is considered the “traditional” Office of the Secular
Franciscans. Many forms of this Office are available
which have been adapted to follow the form of the
Liturgy of the Hours, and to which have been added
short scriptural readings and meditations. This form
is and has been widely used because of its adaptability
to daily life.
6. One's spiritual director or the fraternity’s spiritual
assistant may approve another liturgical prayer form
for individual use provided that it contains psalms,
biblical readings and prayers.
7. Other prayer forms that correspond to the various
liturgical seasons may be substituted from time to
time but not on a regular basis, provided that it fol-
lows to some extent the form of the liturgical Hours.
