page 1 Principals Corner : Dear JCE families, Happy November! Congratulations to Cubs fans everywhere! :) What a series. It is amazing that we are already in November and I have lots of news to share so here goesSpecial congratulations go out to Wendy Gilbert, our Teacher of the Year, and Trey Lewek, our Rookie Teacher of the Year! What a fantastic honor to be selected by your peers to represent all of our wonderful teachers at Julington Creek Elementary. We are so proud to have these two professionals as our honorees this year! More congratulations for you to celebrate with us - Congratulations to Kerry Conover, our Volunteer of the Year; Nicole Raziano, our Senior Volunteer of the Year and Brian Cheung, our Youth Volunteer of the Year! We are so indebted to all of you who give of your time to support our students and our school. Specials thanks to each of these wonderful servants who have been exemplary in offering their time and talents to benefit the lives of students at JCE! November brings us to our JAGUAR CHALLENGE (Nov. 17)! This is our major fundraiser of the year where we celebrate fitness and earn money for our school. This year we will continue with our three-year plan to get more technology resources into the hands of our students to deepen learning. Access to technology allows us to have students practice skills in engaging ways on websites and using apps that produce graphs and charts creating usable data for teachers to further know and understand your child as a learner. School in the 21 st century continues to look different than it did when you and I attended and that is good! It needs to be different! We need to make use of all that is around us to help out children be the best learners and problem solvers that they can be. We have set a goal of $40,000 this year, which we surpassed last year with lots of hard work by our families and PTO. We know that we can do it again! We will be welcoming Jaxon DeVille from the Jacksonville Jaguars to our celebration party if we meet our goal and our students have voted for me to KISS A PIG! Yuck! But I will happily do it if they meet their goal! Please join us on November 10 at 5pm for our first Friends and Family Fun Run where we will prepare for our Jag Challenge by running a mile course together. This will be a wonderful event and we invite all to get your sneakers on and run with us! It's the time of the year that we have the amazing opportunity to vote. Many have sacrificed and suffered to make it possible for each of us to have this right and have our voices heard - but voting is just one part of it. We need to be educated voters. Research the presidential candidates, the court judges, the state and local political leaders as well as the potential Florida constitutional amendments that are a part of this year s ballot. Exercise your right and be an informed voter! Model this for your children so they will know how important it is to exercise their right to be an informed voter. Lastly, we will soon have new neighbors to the east, Dollar Tree (opening this month) and Dunkin Donuts (opening January). We are asking for additional crossing guards to help at the entrance and hope that we can make this happen soon. I also want to remind you to be considerate of these businesses and not use them for additional parking at our dismissal times. It is important that we show respect for our local businesses. Thank you for all you do! Thank you for attending our Halloween Parade. It is always more fun to parade when you have an excited audience. You were awesome! What a fun day we had with your children. We love what we do and cherish the time that we spend with your children. Happy November!
