•• The quarterly Central Highlands Development Register provides a snap shot of key developments inthis region and surrounding areas.

• The Register is produced by the Central Highlands Development Corporation (CHDC) as part of itscommitment to supporting and promoting sustainable regional economic development and investmentattraction.

• The projects featured in the Register are either recently completed, underway or planned for the nearfuture. Each listing includes the project’s status, scope, costs, location and completion date, wherepossible.

• The Central Highlands regional economy contributed $4.15 billion to the Gross State Product of$294.59 billion in 2012/13.

• The mining sector accounted for close to 70 percent of this figure but residential construction is also amajor contributor, followed by local agricultural and horticultural industries.

• The Central Highlands local government area spans more than 60,000 square kilometres in CentralQueensland.

• It includes the major townships of Arcadia Valley, Bauhinia, Blackwater, Bluff, Capella, Comet, Dingo,Duaringa, Emerald, Rolleston, Sapphire Gemfields, Springsure and Tieri.

• A portion of Australia’s largest coal reserve, the Bowen Basin, sits in the region and it is alsoneighbour to the Galilee Basin, described as Australia’s new mining province.
