First off, thank you to the Wild Roadie RV Group for donating toward the paneling for the RV building, toJohn and Carmen Schwiesow for the insulation and to Urbun Stephens for installing and re-furbishing thebuilding. The work is still in progress and should be ready to use soon.
The maintenance equipment has been relocated to one of the old fire works trailers, that was modified by Billand Marilyn Novak. The Poker group has donated money towards a new gas powered weed eater. Thanksagain for your time and money spent on this project.
The maintenance department is in need of a round and square point shovel. If anyone has an extra one theydon't want or need, notify or drop them off at the office. Thank you in advance.

MARK JAROS
A LOT has happened since I wrote one of these articles. First off my good friend PER
Don Collins came down with a viral infection that severely hampered his heart and
lung function. Don then decided that it would be better for him to resign, so that the
lodge could move ahead. Therefore, we were forced to change some officers. Yes, I
am now again Exalted Ruler with PER Ivan Buffington as Leading Knight. Also
Gayleen Cox is now the chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Paul Thompson and
Don Hoge have been elected as Trustees. Anyhow, I am sure you will give us your support as you have
in the past.
We actually did something on the 13th and 14th of October that I did not know if the Lodge could accom-
plish such a task. We had Ballroom dancing upstairs and Pat & Jerry Swartos’ 50th wedding anniver-
sary party downstairs on Saturday, as well as having the North Region Ritual Contest going on Satur-
day and Sunday. There was a lot of cooking, a lot of furniture moving and way to many trips up and
down those @#$$& stairs. I cannot thank enough all of the volunteers who came out and helped us.
Thanks to Mishelle’s guidance ALL of the food was wonderful and impressive. To top of the weekend
Mishelle was selected as the BEST Lodge Esquire in the region. Way to go team.
We have a lot of exciting events coming up, and we now have tickets for our fabulous New Year’s Eve
party. I did not know until last year how many we could seat for dinner and still have use of the com-
plete dance floor. Now I know the number is 120. Therefore, the number of tickets printed will be the
same, so purchase early or get your reservations into Karen
Please remember that Thanksgiving is on Thursday the 22nd and the lodge will be closed so unfortu-
nately, there will be no Bingo that week
Also, the Board voted to raise the Ballroom dance to $8.00, starting Jan. 1, 2013
As always if you want to contact me about Elkdom you can contact me at the Lodge or e-mail me at

DOOR GREETERSThe following is a schedule for the Greeters at the desk for SPECIAL EVENTS.
This includes checking cards and collecting payment for the event, if applicable.
If you are unable to be there on your scheduled night, it is your responsibility to find someone to take
your place. The assignments are done by starting at the front of the Lodge room and going around the
circle. There are a couple of Officers that are exempt since most of our nights are dances and they work
in the kitchen. When we have other events, they will be included….
no favorites here. IF ANYONE ELSE WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE GREETER LIST,
PLEASE LET CARMEN KNOW….

SHELTON ELKS BULLETIN—NOVEMBER 2012—-page 9
Meet Sebastian who is now three years old. He was referred to the Elks TherapyProgram when he was five months old. He had undergone spinal cord surgery andwas still recovering. Sebastian was born with spina bifida. Spina bifida is a birthdefect that disrupts the normal formation of the spinal cord. The nerves and mus-cles of his legs are affected. He has some movement in his hips and upper legs butis flaccid below the knee. Sebastian is a very spirited young fellow and determinedto keep up with his sister and classmates. He loves to climb and go down the slide. In therapy we have worked to strengthen his legs and develop his balance. A tri-
cycle was adapted so his feet could stay on the pedals and he could strengthen his legs while havingfun. Until recently crawling was his primary method of getting around. He was unable to place his feetflat on the floor to allow for bearing weight and stepping. With the help of an orthotist we were able tomake him special braces to help with his foot alignment. He has made amazing progress and, with thehelp of a walker, he is now walking! AND very proud of himself!
Sebastian's family lives in a very remote part of the state. Occasionally they need to go to Children’sHospital for appointments with specialists. It is 5-6 hours each way when they need to go. His familyappreciates that they can get therapy in their home town.
They want to say “THANK YOU” to the Washington Elks for providing him therapy services over thelast three years.
