I am so honored, proud and thrilled to be apart of Christmas Carousel. Please make plans to join us for this amazing event that binds us together as league members and enables us with the resources to do so much for our community.
Come Walk the Red Carpet with us Thursday evening, November 6th as we kick off A Starlet Christmas with Premiere Night. You will delight in delicious appetizers and desserts while getting a taste of the fabulous merchants and shops.
Friday merchant shopping will officially open and you won’t want to miss the wide variety of merchants: from elk items, books, unique children’s toys, fine handbags, and much, much, more.
Style show is always a hit and will be again this year with Dillard’s showing off their Red Carpet Style. It’s sure to be a sellout!
Friday night is huge treat! Gold’s Gym is sponsoring our ladies night of Sippin, Shoppin and Stylin on the Boulevard. Each guest will receive a free month gym membership and a free month of tanning! Vianai Robinson will speak on wine pairings, TruBlue catering will offer cooking demonstrations, Zach Harmon will entertain on his acoustic guitar, and then the fabulous shopping!!
Bring your children Saturday morning, to cook with Santa,
take pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus and be entertained
by a the ACU Children’s Theatre!
The KLOCKs will be ready to kick off the Governor’s Ball with a bang on Saturday night.
Get out your ball gown and get that man a tux – we will be dining
in style on a plated meal and walking down the red carpet in elegance. The live auction will be something to truly amaze you – you won’t believe what Angela and Kris have found for us!
We finish off our star studded weekend with Mo Willems and the NCCIL entertaining our children and inspiring them to draw and write on their own.
We have many more surprises in store from our children’s performing stage, to Chick-fil-a sponsoring our concessions stand and so much more. This is THE EVENT of the year! Don’t miss it.
Thank you to the Christmas Carousel Committee for your hours and hours of hard work and dedication to the league. You are amazing women and this year with you has been one that I can never forget. Through all we have been through personally we have bonded together and you have truly made this year the success that it is! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You truly raise the League up by your tremendous hearts and incredibly strong spirits!

From the President By Risha Sanders
Years served on league: 9 years ( including being assocate active)
Most Challenging league placement: Christmas Carousel - chairing
sponsorship (with a full time job as a Drug rep)
Favorite Christmas Carousel memory:The week of carousel going to the civic center and helping to get it all together.
What do you always think of when you think back at your years in League:How an organization works to give back to the community. I learned about service, good connections and bringing those things back in everyday life.
What excuse would you use to leave a party at your least favorite restaurant: I would be a good guest and stay for the party but not order anything, or say that I am eating dinner with my husband later.
Name one item on your To-Do list -that never gets done:Putting together Photo albums
Lastly : Thongs or briefs? What ever the outfit calls for….
SUSTAINER SALUTEKimi Newcomb
With the month of November, we enter into a season of thanksgiving. As I reflect on my many blessings, I count serving as President of the Junior League of Abilene as one of them. It has allowed me the opportunity to meet and serve with so many women in this incredible organization.
We are blessed to serve in an organization of such amazing women.I have been so inspired by the hard work, enthusiasm, and perseverance of the group of women serving on the Carousel Committee. Many of these women have endured very difficult personal struggles – breast cancer, loss of a loved one, divorce, job changes – and yet have continued to serve this organization without hesitation. Thank you for showing us such beautiful displays of grace and strength.
We are blessed to live in such a generous and caring community.Even in the toughest of economic times, the community has reached out to support the Junior League. I have been so humbled by the generosity of so many businesses, organizations and individuals in this community. Thank you for believing in us and continuing to support our efforts to train women and improve the lives of children in our community.
We are blessed with an opportunity to make a difference. Now that Christmas Carousel is here, you have an opportunity to help make this Carousel a tremendous success. Thank you in advance for working your work shifts. We could not make this event happen without the hours and hours of volunteer time given by our members. And thank you for buying tickets to attend all of the awesome events planned by the Carousel Committee.
I want to ask you to do just a little more. If we all can do just a little more, we can collectively make a tremendous difference in the success of Christmas Carousel 2008.
• You can make a difference by inviting your girlfriends to come with you to Ladies Night Out.
• You can make a difference by inviting your children’s friends and their mothers to attend the children’s events with you. Fill a table with your child’s friends!
• You can make a difference by inviting your coworkers to come shop at Market Hall.
• You can make a difference by asking your best friends to get dressed up and come with you to the Gala.
As you look through this issue of the Commentator, please pay special attention to who our sponsors are. Please take the opportunity to thank them for their support – both verbally and by patronizing their businesses whenever you have the chance.
I look forward to seeing you all at Christmas Carousel 2008!

Dear Risha and League Volunteers,What a truly wonderful blessing to have the volunteers from Jr. League come out and help at the Heart Walk! They all did a super job(of course) helping in the Kids Area! As you all know, without dedicated volunteers we could not raise the needed funds to fight heart disease and stroke, the #1 and #3 killers of Americans!
Kindest Regards and Thanks! Frann Smith
