It's easy, perhaps, to forget that this is a dogma of our Catholic faith. We see this dramatic end times language in today's Gospel. "The sun will be darkened ... and the stars will be falling from the sky." As Christians and as human beings, we know all things will come to an end. "But of that day or hour, no one knows." The "end of the world" and end of time at Jesus' com- ing is in a future unknown. But God has given us beautiful reminders of this truth. We see the signs and symbols of end- ing all around us -- nightfall at the end of each day; the life cycle of crops coming alive, bearing fruit, and being harvested; our own death. That, too, will come at an unknown day and hour. But that is the way of things. Even as God created in Genesis, He gave us a sense of time -- the sun rising and set- ting, a beginning and an end -- to mark our days. So how do we welcome these built-in forms of meas- urement? Do we take time to quietly recollect at the end of each day? Do we see every morning as a fresh start for mercies new? Do we observe the seasons and reflect on what they might be speaking to us of God and His glory? "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my works will not pass away." The little beginnings and little ends are opportunities to renew our faith in Jesus, if only we have the eyes to see! Liturgical Publications, Inc.

DIOCESAN AND COMMUNITY NEWS

Mt. Juliet Help Center: Most needed items at the center are: Stuffing mix and gravy for our Thanks-giving boxes.

Catholic Charities Material Assistance Program is in need of new and gently used baby clothes up to Size 4 (only). We are well stocked with diapers, but we would welcome other items such as bottles, blankets, wipes, diaper bags, pacifiers, infant wash-ing supplies, bibs, or other items. With the Winter months close at hand, we don’t want to turn away families coming in daily who have nothing for their little ones. To donate to our Material Assistance Closet, or for more information, call or email Deb-bie Striclyn at 615-760-1025 or dstriclyn@cctenn. org. Thank you for considering this worthwhile cause, and for caring about the children and families in our community.

PARENTING MATTERS: What is discipline? and What are we to do about school violence? - Listen to two episodes of Parenting Matters, a pro-gram produced locally and hosted by Dr. Parnell Donahue, MD. These will be aired on Nashville Catholic Radio, WBOU 100.5 FM, or online at: WBOU.org, or on your smart speakers at: “Tune in Nashville Catholic Radio.” – Monday, Nov. 19, 12pm; repeated Saturday, Nov. 24, at 11am, and again on Sunday, Nov. 25, at 6pm. Mark your cal-endar.

Holy Land Sale: The weekend of Nov. 24-25, Khader and Mary Abu Sada (a Catholic couple from the Holy Land) will be visiting St. Stephen to market olive wood hand carved religious articles made by Christian artisans in the Holy Land. With hostilities worsening in the Holy Land, the outlets for olive wood carvings have been closed, leading unemployment to increase and Christian artisans to leave the Holy Land to market their handiwork. All proceeds will go directly to the Christian families and artisans. We will have olive wood Nativity scenes, crucifixes, figures, rosaries, etc., priced from $5 to $900.
