From the Pastor’s Desk… The end of the Liturgical year is upon us. The liturgical year ends before the calendar year. Next Sunday we will celebrate the feast day of Christ the King, and it will then be followed by Advent. Today’s readings regarding the end of times allow us to turn inward and examine our lives and our consciences. I remember that during my years at the seminary, examining conscience was a part of daily prayers. Even the Angelus prayer said at noon-time was preceded by a brief examination of conscience. It was to help the seminarians in learning more about themselves and to help us work on ourselves. Thusly we should prepare ourselves to greet Christ the King, in front of whom we will stand next week. We should feel ready to show our spiritual life’s report. During last week I prepared a written summary of the parish life for our Bishop and I await a yearly report meeting with the Bishop. On the form for reporting there is also a place for providing plans for the future. I believe that we should have the same matter in mind when we recall our lives to Christ the King. Following a thorough examination of conscience, we should come to a decision as to whether and how our lives could be improved and be a better reflection of God’s Glory for our own happiness and that of our neighbor.

Warning from Most Rev. Francis J. Kane I wish to advise you that members of the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), a religious organization not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, have created a priory and chapel in the former St. Priscilla convent, 7011 W. Addison St. in Chicago. Some years ago, the convent had been sold by the parish to a Roman Catholic order of women religious. When the religious sisters no longer had need of the residence, the convent was sold to a private party who sold the property to the Society of St. Pius X. So that you and the people for whom you care are not misled, I wish to make you aware that the Society of St. Pius X is not a religious community of the Roman Catholic Church. The Society of St. Pius X is a group of former Roman Catholics who disagree with elements of the Vatican II Council. Twenty-five years ago, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, founder of the SSPX, ordained four bishops without the permission of Pope John Paul II. This resulted in the automatic excommunication in accord with canon law. Archbishop Lefebvre, the bishops and clergy of the SSPX, and the Society became a schismatic group. For this reason the SSPX does not share the full communion of the Catholic Church. The Society of St. Pius X in Chicago has a website which publicizes its presence and activities, such as offering Mass and confessions at its worship site, Our Lady Immaculate Church on Washington Blvd. in Oak Park. The SSPX priests have offered to lead talks and devotions, particularly devotions to Our Lady of Fatima. Catholics should be aware that these priests are not Roman Catholic clerics. Roman Catholics participating in a Society of St. Pius X church and receiving communion from a SSPX priest makes them part of a schismatic group. I would ask that you warn your parishioners about advertisements for so-called Catholic Masses and sacraments offered by priests of the Society of Pius X and at Our Lady Immaculate Church in Oak Park, Illinois. Clergy members of SSPX, including Bishop Bernard Tissier De Mallerais, Fr. Charles Ward, Fr. Joseph Dreher, and Fr. Joseph Colletti (while not a member but who associates himself with the SSPX), may not celebrate any sacraments, or conduct services or devotions in our parishes. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

TYPHOON HAIYAN PHILIPPINES EMERGENCY APPEAL Just a few days ago, a storm of tremendous size and impact, Typhoon Haiyan, has passed over the Philippines, killing nearly 10,000 of our Filipino brothers and sisters and with more than 600,000 displaced. Unfortunately, the region is barely recovering from a 7.2 magnitude earthquake just three weeks ago and there is a shortage of supplies. Typhoon Haiyan is the equivalent to a category 5 hurricane and the impact from the storm has left the Philippines and nearby islands with no water, shelter, or electricity. CRS will prioritize emergency shelter, water and sanitation, household relief items (blankets, kitchen items, cookware), potable water, and toilets in this time of emergency. Catholic Relief Services is working with the local government, Caritas and local parishes to maximize response and recovery efforts to reach those most affected by this destructive storm. To support CRS respond to this emergency in the Philippines, please appeal to your parishioners to make a donation which can be sent to:

Respect Life “[The abortion] gave me grief and sorrow beyond expression. I have committed the most heinous of all crimes -- I killed my own child. Yet, the Lord forgave me, just as he forgave Paul. Yet I will always regret what I did and will probably always feel grief. But I pray that my experience can somehow prevent other women from making the same fatal mistake. I’m a nurse now, so I wear my uniform to all the pro-life things I do!”

For information on healing after abortion, see www.SilentNoMoreAwareness.org

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, When we started the To Teach Who Christ Is Campaign several weeks ago I was wondering if this campaign will effect our regular offerings in any way, especially that as you know, we are not meeting our weekly budget almost every weekend. Last weekend proved that it is possible for us to reach our weekly budget even though we are doing the campaign. Last weekend’s collection was over $11,000. I want to thank you for your generosity. We thank those who already made their commitments to our Campaign and we remind you that you can wait for the reminders to come in the mail making your irst payments following the instruc-tions given by the Archdiocese. After you receive the instructions in the mail, payments will be mailed to the Archdiocese as they hold our parish’s account for the Campaign and they will send us report updates systematically. The money collected will be released by the Archdiocese to fund the projects mentioned in the Campaign case. The success of our Campaign depends on the participation of us all. So far we re-ceived 570 pledges. Yours in Christ,

Rev. Richard Milek

Dziękujemy wszystkim którzy już zlożyli swoje zobowiązania i przypominamy że w krótce otrzymacie z Ar-

chidiecezji potwierdzenie o złożonym zobowiązaniu i przypomnienie o dokonaniu kolejnej wpłaty.

Dzisiejsze czytania o tematyce eschatologicznej skłaniają nas do refleksji i rachunku sumienia. Pamiętam, że w czasach seminaryjnych rachunek sumienia był częścią naszej codziennej modlitwy. Nawet Anioł Pański w południe był poprzedzony kilkuminutowym rachunkiem sumienia. Miało to dopomóc klerykom w lepszym poznaniu samych siebie i w owocnej pracy nad sobą.
