LAGNIAPPE Thirty-third Sunday, In Ordinary Time

November 16, 2014

Page 2: November 16 2014 original

Dear Friends, The Church season every year moves through November toward the great Feast of Christ the King, which came about in 1925 established by Pope Pius XI. It was an observance celebrating an aspect of Jesus’ identity rather than his life. Instead of conveying an image of Jesus dressed in kingly robes, a more conventional understanding of kingship and power, this Feast seeks to transform that image with Jesus as king with a sign over his head INRI Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. Pius XI was facing a Church within a fast changing world. Christ the King was a feast that spoke to this secular world saying whether you know it or not, Jesus Christ is the source of all power. Power is given by God for the people, and the authority that comes from that power is from God. This was quite a statement to make back then as well as today. This is one reason why every year at this time the Bishops of our country ask us to give to the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, which seeks to provide funding for programs across the country that promote and protect human dignity. Whether its to care for the hungry, the homeless, the poorest of the poor, to help provide counselling for those in crisis, to offer support to those imprisoned, to promote a just society, this Campaign is close to the heart of the Church and Pope Francis too. Please be generous, Our Diocesan Catholic Charities is a direct beneficiary of this national campaign. We are very near the time of year when we annually consider Prayer Stewardship. As you may notice information about this aspect of parish life has been in the bulletin. Next weekend it will be highlighted at all the Masses. Please remember Mass on Thanksgiving Day, 8:30am. Have a good week! Love,

LIFE TOGETHER

Gator Bites from St. Jean Vianney Catholic School

Balloon Rosary – FOUND!: On Thursday, October 16th, St. Jean Vianney Catholic School’s 3rd and 7th grade prayer partners led the student body in the Living Rosary. Each of these students played a special role in honoring our Blessed Mother during this most sacred tradition of prayer. Following the prayer, 7th grade students released a balloon rosary into the sky. Attached to the balloon rosary was a note explaining the significance of the popped balloons if they were to be found. Administrators received word later that day that our balloons did pop and landed on the tennis courts of Hahnville High School just outside of Houma! Hahnville High School is located 80 miles southeast of St. Jean Vianney. The balloons were found just as members of the ROTC were wrapping up their practice

Fun Day: October 24th was a busy day for St. Jean Vianney School’s faculty and staff! As usual, students began their Friday by coming together to celebrate the Mass. After leaving church, students were able to spend some time with their prayer partners, while taking a spiritual walk around campus. The walk was extra special because they were able to walk through the area in which Swamp Fest, SJV’s fair, was to be held later that evening. Students then returned to busi-ness as usual, but were later called out of classes to participate in a Fun Day of space walks, la-ser tag, video games, and ham-ster balls! This was all part of their reward for reaching our $30,000 goal from September’s Fun Run Fundraiser. The school day concluded as all students gathered together in the courtyard to duct tape Mrs. Ross, the principal, to the wall! Each student was allowed to participate in this exciting event, as it too was a Fun Run incentive.

Representatives from the Catholic High Mothers' Club will be selling tickets after the 9:30 AM and 11:30 AM masses on Sunday, November 16th for their 2015 car raffle. Winner is responsible for all fees associated with tax, title, and license.
