The fall season is upon us, and it's time to enjoy the changing leaves and the crisp fall air. Thank you for choosing Regency as your home!

We have three public events this month. Join us for any of the following:

First, we'll open our doors to Jason Jones, a comedian from California, as he performs in the 1st floor dining room. Join us on Friday, November 1st at 1:30 pm for some clean fun comedy and sweet eats.

Second, join Hospice of North Alabama for a free CEU class titled "Behaviors and the Dementia Patient" on Thursday, November 7th. Regency will be serving lunch at 11:30 am with the speaker starting at 12:00 pm.

Third, Regency will honor our veterans on Friday, November 8th at 1:30 pm. SFC Flowers will be presenting, with the Sunshine Singers finish-ing off the hour with the music from the wars and all the branches of service.

In addition, we are proud to announce Memory Care will be enjoying their Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday, November 15th. 2nd and 3rd floor will eat at 11:30 am with Pathways starting at 12:00 pm. RSVP to the front desk for your family members.

Independent, Assisted Living and Seasons will be savoring their Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 21st from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. RSVP to the front desk to save your seat.

Let's continue to strive for excellence and to make Regency the "top shelf" facility in Alabama.

RECENT EVENTS

Jennifer with Chalk Couture came to do an exclusive lesson on screen printing on small chalk boards with the res-idents and family members of Regency! We selected our stencils, picked our favorite paint and then applied it in a thin coat with a rubber spatula. Purple. Silver. Gold. Green. Beautiful and professional! The seniors were so proud of their quality work that several plan to share it with family and loved ones. What works of art!

Crafting Time: Jennifer with Chalk Couture — October 2nd

Regency joined in for a cause that touches home for so many! We met at Big Spring Park for the 2019 Annual Alzheimer's Walk. Sunny skies. Brightly colored t-shirts. Ice cold water. Surrounded by friends and loved ones of those affected so much. What a lovely way to support the ALZ Association, as we donated the money raised through our many bake sales, Bingos and penny wars! Let's continue to make a difference in others' lives!

In true Annual Fall Festival fashion, we celebrated the season with flair and style. The Big Daddy Kingfish Band in concert. Canadian Bakin' with giant pretzels. Five different bouncy houses. A massive cookout. Debra with Step by Step Petting Zoo. A Rocket City Clown. Face painting... and even dancing with family, residents and employees. What great times where we made some great memories with great friends and families! Such a celebration. Go Regency!

Annual Fall Festival — October 11th

Pizza! Pizza! One of our favorite "American" foods that originated in Italy. Cheesy. Warm and saucy. Pepperoni or Sausage. Drizzled with garlic butter. Which one is the best? The residents of Regency met in the Sun Room to decide on just that. We compared Papa John's pepperoni and sausage with the matching flavors by Little Caesars. At first it was a tie, but then as more votes were cast, Papa John's out-sliced Little Caesars. What a close call that won a round of applause from the residents as they were so excited to have local chain pizza. Yum! Yum!

RECENT EVENTS: HEALTHCARE

Eat a taco with a fork.... straight out of a Doritos bag! Residents enjoyed tacos in a bag, topped with seasoned ground beef, lettuce, salsa, and a dollop of sour cream, to celebrate National Taco Day!

Time to get dirty! Our residents enjoyed indoor planting, as everyone gloved up to plant flowers into their very own pots. They poured in dirt, planted the seeds, and topped it off with water. Then they were able to take it to their room to watch a beautiful flower grow.

The residents enjoyed pumpkin carving. They were able to draw their own faces for the pumpkins, and with the help of the staff we carved and made all the pumpkins light up with a small LED light. Residents enjoyed the comfort of a pumpkin night light for their rooms.

Our residents prepared their very own pizza on this day. We used Grands biscuits, pizza sauce, cheese and peppero-ni to make this delicious snack. They enjoyed every minute of it!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Would you like to join your family members for this year's Thanksgiving Dinner? If so, Memory Care will be hold-ing their Thanksgiving Dinner on November 15th (2nd and 3rd floor at 11:30 am with Pathways at 12:00 pm) and Independent/Assisted/Seasons will be celebrating on November 21st from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Please RSVP to the front desk if you plan to enjoy a plate loaded with goodies (turkey, ham, and all the sides), and our dessert table. Let's gather together for the holiday and make some great memories!

In one of our public events for the month, we will be welcoming Jason Jones, the comedian from California, here to entertain our residents, family members, and guests. With a wonderful clean sense of humor, we'll laugh, clap and participate in his live performance in the 1st floor dining room. Join us in having a great time, as we make Jason feel welcome!

How do we honor our veterans of Regency? By having a big celebration, of course. SFC Flowers will join us from Redstone Arsenal to present hats and Certificates of Appreciation to all our veterans. The Sunshine Singers will finish the last half of the hour with music from the wars and the songs from each branch of service. We'll honor those who have done so much for us and our country!

Veterans Day CelebrationNovember 8th at 1:30 pm

We will be welcoming Becky of Home Depot for this 90 minutes of crafting time! She'll be bringing 4"x4" tiles, for us to paint and create into coasters and small gifts for family members and friends. What would you like to design? A family tree? Names of your family mem-bers? Flowers? A Christmas tree? Whatever your heart's desire, come prepared to create your very own one-of-a-kind gift to pass on. Let's be unique!

Crafting Time: Becky of Home DepotNovember 6th at 2:30 pm

With multiple residents requesting an opportunity to see a movie out on the town, we are booking our first trip on November 12th. The movie will be selected clos-er to time with a popular vote. Be sure to sign up at the front desk if you wish to participate. Let's all go out on the town to see the latest hit. So rewarding and fun!

Mr. Roberts has lived at Regency for one year. He served 26 years for the USAF in electronics, radio, charging weapons, and more. He was awarded a Commendation Medal and a Meritorious Service Medal for his devotion. Following the Air Force, he went to college for a bachelor's degree in Industrial Vocational Education at the University of Mississippi. From there, he went on to work at the VA for 20 years in Medical Administration. Charles has 1 daughter, 1 son, and 8 grandchildren. He loves to listen to music for his hobby and joins us frequently in the Sun Room for concerts. We are delighted to have Mr. Roberts as part of the Regency family!

WELCOME NEW RESIDENTS!


Hello and welcome to another edition of Therapy Corner. This month I would like to address falls. This is a topic I have discussed in the past, but it is a topic that cannot be emphasized enough.

More than 1 of 4 older people fall each year, but less than half tell their doctor. Falling once doubles your chances of falling again. More than 95% of hip fractures are caused by falling, usually by falling sideways. Falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries.

Some common risk factors for falls are lower body weakness, vita-min D deficiency, and difficulties with walking and balance. Some home hazards to be aware of are throw rugs and clutter. Other risk factors can include the use of medicines such as tranquilizers, sedatives, and antidepressants. Even some over-the-counter medicines can affect balance. Vision problems can increase fall risk, as well as foot pain or poor footwear (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

If you feel you have any of these risk factors, please consult your physician. Physical therapy is an avenue to ad-dress some of these issues as well, so feel free to ask me or any of the other on-site therapists to assist with these issues if needed.
