A Message from Deacon Mike

We will notarize volunteer clearance affidavits following the Saturday Mass on 10/31/20. It only takes a few minutes. You will need a driver's license or some acceptable ID. We have plenty of forms and there is no cost.

Our next "That Man is You" will be on Saturday 11/7/20 at 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM. We will be learning from King Solomon and Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Come and join the conversation, you will not be disappointed. All men are welcome.

Today begins Vocation Awareness Week One Vocation Leads to Another

“Let us not forget that Christian marriage is a vo-cation to holiness in the full sense of the word, and that the example of holy parents is the first condition favorable for the flowering of priestly and religious vocations.” – Pope Benedict XV

Your Unique Mission Why does it matter that people discover their God-given vocations? Because the Church relies on the unique contribu-tion of every soul. As St. John Henry Newman famously reflected: ”God has created me to do some special service; God has committed some work to me which has not been committed to another. I HAVE A MISSION.”

YOU ARE INVITED to a HOLY HOUR FOR VOCATIONS on Thursday, November 5 at 6:30 PM at St John the Evangelist, Latrobe, in celebration of National Vocation Awareness Week. Please join us and spend an hour with Jesus.

Christian Mothers/Blackburn Center During this month of Thanksgiving, November 2020 we cannot collect the items in the Church to help Blackburn Center. So we are asking you to take/donate some of your “gently used/nearly new” items to Christian Layman Corp Thrift Store (724-834-4464) in Greensburg, PA. Monday - Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM. They work with Blackburn Center. Thank you for your support. Next year we will resume our “items collection,” God willing. May God bless you this Thanksgiving. Veronica Sander

FOOD PANTRY NEWS:

Are you aware that Ligonier Valley Food Pantry is housed here at Holy Trinity & is among several pantries across Westmoreland Co under the direction of West-moreland County Food Bank, Inc.?

Twice a year we collect specific food items for The Ligonier Association of Churches for the food pantry. Also, once a month a second collection is taken to help the food pantry. For those who can’t assist financially we would like you to consider another option. By offering one single grocery item a week we can provide a significant supplement to what the local pantry has to help our neighbors in need.

Watch the bulletin for next weeks item, pick one up on your shopping trip during the week and drop it into the shopping cart on your way into Mass the next weekend.

Please NO GLASS JARS!

Next weeks item is:

Canned Tuna or Chicken

The Envelope for Retired Religious and Diocesan Priests is this weekend

The collection for Retired Religious and Diocesan Priests will be conducted in the Diocese of Greensburg the weekend of October 31 - November 1. Since 1999, this collection has helped support the retired diocesan priests’ fund. Twenty - five percent of the total of this year’s collection will be designated for that purpose, and the remainder of the collection will be passed on to the National Religious Retirement Office for distribution to the various religious communities applying for assistance. Today, the majority of women religious in congregations and men in religious orders are past age 60, and a significant number are past age 80. Many institutes do not have the resources to meet the dramati-cally escalating costs of care for their growing populations of elderly. This collection helps meet that need.

There are still more 2020 weekday Mass Intentions available until December. If you would like to have a Mass said for your loved one, please contact the Parish Office.

Please Remember in Your Prayers Bishop Brandt, Fr. Anthony Wozniak, Fr. Willie Lechnar,

Fr. Stephen West, Annie Williams, Dorothy Holtzman, Amy Newhouse, Karen West, Sister Shelly Sharbaugh, OSB., Janet Franks, Adele Griffith, Martha Knupp, Ashley Mullen,

Jake McDermott, Bonnie Baloga, Dale Hall, and Kim Daffinger.

FROM THE DESK OF FATHER ANTHONY………………………………………..

Today we celebrate All Saints Day! The Church has been celebrating a feast for All Saints since at least the seventh century. St. Bernard of Clairvaux offers a reflection for All Saint Day – “Why should our praise and glorification, or even the celebration of this feast day mean anything to the Saints? Clearly, if we venerate their memory, it serves us, not them. But I tell you, when I think of them, I feel myself inflamed with a tremendous yearning. Calling the saints to mind inspires, or rather arouses in us, above all else, a longing to enjoy their company…. We long to share in the citizenship of heaven to dwell with the spirits of the blessed…. In short, we long to be united in happiness with all the Saints.” We all hope to be in Heaven some day, but more than likely we will spend some time in Purgatory before entering into heavenly glory. We are reminded that there are countless saints in Heaven and that we ourselves have a place there, if only we reject sin and strive to live as Jesus taught us to live. In the Preface that we hear today, we address God, praying, “[T]oday by your gift we celebrate the festival of your city, the heavenly Jerusalem, our mother, where the great array of our brothers and sisters already give you eternal praise. Towards her, we eagerly hasten as pilgrims advancing by faith, rejoicing in the glory bestowed upon those exalted members of the Church through whom you give us, in our frailty, both strength and good example.” When we celebrate All Saints Day and remember the Saints, we also are celebrating our call to be holy – this is a time to rejoice that many are already praying for us as we continue our journey here on earth. Please take a few moments to check out the “saints posters” created by our young parishioners who are preparing for Confirmation. The posters are displayed in the church. Tomorrow we celebrate All Souls Day, or as it is also known, The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. We prayed for the souls in Purgatory and continue to pray for them as they undergo their purification from sin and selfishness in order that they might enter into heavenly glory. This purification frees them from any attachments that would lead them away from God. As we celebrate All Saints and All Souls, we recall the great Catholic doctrine of the “Communion of Saints,” in which we profess our faith every time we pray the Creed at Mass. The Saints reigning in Heaven, the Souls suffering in Purgatory, and we the Faithful here on earth, who are striving to love God and neighbor and are battling evil, make up the Communion of Saints. The Saints pray for us and the souls in Purgatory, while we can ask the Saints to help us on our earthly journey. We also offer prayers and sacrifices for the souls in Purgatory. We will celebrate two Masses tomorrow for the souls in purgatory, at 8:00AM and 7:00PM. On Sunday, November 15 at the 11:00AM Mass, we will have a Mass of Remembrance for our parishioners who have died this past year and also for those persons for whom we provided funeral services. I know that many citizens have already exercised their right to vote, but if you have not yet voted, please do so this Tuesday, November 3. It is important that we exercise this right. I also encourage you to make use of your Catholic conscience when you cast your ballot. We reviewed several truths of Catholic teaching the last few weeks in the bulletin. We must always respect innocent human life from the moment of conception until natural death. However, we do not have to be people of faith to know and believe that an unborn child is a human person. This is simply a fact of science. If the most defenseless of us are not protected and valued, none of us is protected and valued. Eventually “our turn” will come to be terminated. If a particular life is considered to be unwelcomed, unwanted, unnecessary, it is logical to conclude that any life can be considered to be unwelcomed, unwanted, unnecessary. Today begins Vocation Awareness Week! The Office for Pr iestly Vocations of the Diocese of Greens-burg reminds us: “Did you know that in our country, compared to 60 years ago, there are 20,000 fewer priests and 129,000 fewer religious sisters? At the same time, the Catholic population has grown steadily. During Vocation Awareness Week, please pray that young people in today’s society will hear and respond to God’s call. And do your part to encourage them to consider the priesthood and religious life.”

October has come to a close, but please don’t forget the Rosary, our Pro-Life intentions, and the Missions. Although the Church emphasizes these aspects of Church life during the month of October, we need to remind ourselves throughout the entire year that Mary’s intercession is powerful, that we must always guard the sacredness of human life, and that we should be participating in evangelization and mission efforts every day.

Have you noticed how often a conversation ends these days with the words – or some variation of them – “Stay safe”? I suppose this is in response to the pandemic, and while it is laudable to be concerned about another person’s physical safety and health, we should also be concerned with that person’s spiritual state. What if we encouraged one another to “Be Holy” or to “Stay Holy” or to “Try to be Holier”? While no one wants to get sick or to be sick, sickness is part of the fallen world in which we live. The world is passing – and so is sickness. How ever we experience death, and let’s face it, we all will, our death will be the gateway to eternity. During November, the Church focuses on the Four Last Things – Death, Judgement, Heaven, and Hell. We will all experience three out of the four. Let’s strive to be Saints – there is a place in Heaven, we hope and pray.

GOD THE FATHER OF MERCIES, HAVE MERCY ON US! GOD THE SON, JESUS CHRIST, CRUCIFIED AND RISEN FROM THE DEAD, ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN, HAVE MERCY ON US! GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT, DESCENDING UPON US IN GLORY, HAVE MERCY ON US!

A message from our Pastor: Our parish offertory remained relatively strong during the spring due to the generosity and steadfast support of our parishioners. Many parishioners mailed to the parish office and/or dropped off their contributions at the parish office, while others took advantage of our new online giving platform. Online givers have two options available to them – they can donate on our parish webpage or on the diocesan webpage. Parishioners continued to be faithful to their Diocesan Lenten Appeal commitments and pledges. The main fundraiser for our Community Service group has been cancelled – parking cars in our parish parking lot during the October Fort Ligonier Days. This fundraiser provided much needed financial support to the Communi-ty Service team for the whole year. The team provides gifts to needy children at Christmas, Blizzard Baskets in winter, food at Thanksgiving and Easter and material assistance all year long to those in need. We hope still to be able to offer assistance to community members in need at Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can continue to make a commitment online or by sending donations directly to the parish via U.S. Mail or by visiting our website for online offertory. www.HolyTrinityLigonier.org.
